Primitive Technology: Pottery and Stove

lucky760 says...

I love all of his videos, and I crave more so much that I watch lots of the related videos of others who do a much lesser quality job (imho).

But I just saw one yesterday that made me sick. The girl in the video advertises that she'll show you how to have a smoke-free teepee by digging a tunnel, but really it's just a long, annoying commercial for the shovel she's using.

And what makes it so vile is the video is titled "Smoke Free Teepee," but she doesn't at all make it smoke-free.

BARBARIC Dakota Access Oil Police Cause Mass Hypothermia

bcglorf says...

I was mostly wanting to point out that there was perhaps a touch of bias in the original description.

You are right about it being privately owned land involved. However, the construction and the original encampment and protests were all taking place on land that was privately owned:
Protesters have set up teepee and tent camps on land owned by Energy Transfer Partners to slow the progress of construction and have threatened to block the highway.

http://time.com/4548566/dakota-access-pipeline-standing-rock-sioux/

Since then the camps I understood have been moved off and the highway is now being blocked by the authorities to keep the trespassers from returning, but any references to the basic facts on that if I've got them wrong are welcome.

I'm not especially upset about illegal trespassing and obstruction of the construction to make a point and to protest that the law is wrong and all that. I am particularly bothered though when people begin to feel the case isn't strong enough and start lying about some of the parts that might cause people to question their methods.

@bcglorf

interesting how you classify the protesters as angry mob and rioters.

see,
this all on tribal land, owned by native americans, who welcomed this "angry mob" and "rioters" and the police are there NOT at the behest of the tribal elders, but DAPL,a private corporation attempting to push a private pipeline, for private profit, through privately owned land.

DAPL had even hired private mercenaries to keep the landowners off their construction site, who used attack dogs, mace, rubber bullets and worked alongside the police.it got so bad at one point that they had pulled police officers from FIVE states to keep those pesky landowner rabble down!

on a good note, those ancillary officer teams bowed out after a few days, saying that it was immoral and they were unwilling to participate.so the "police" you are referring to are most likely private security.

Funny how the perspective you tell the story from changes it entirely even while keeping to the overall same facts.....and then add some context.

democracynow has been doing excellent work on this situation,as has countercurrentnews:

Why Dara Ó Briain does not joke about muslims

Porksandwich says...

@chilaxe

His argument was that christians used to complain that he never made fun of muslim religion, and he stopped doing religious jokes ( I have no idea if this is true, just based on what he said).

He basically said he knows very little about muslim religion and that the audience he plays to doesn't either. He specifically says:

A) I don't know a fucking thing about muslims and
B) Neither do you.

1a) Which is the asian religion again?
1b) His thesis was, he doesnt know a fucking thing about muslims. Can you prove this wrong?

2) Joking about marrying a 9 year old, could have turned it into a joke against southern rednecks: You'd never make a good southern wife! I'd never make a good southern wife, because Im not 9 or your sister. I'd never heard about muslims or Mohammad marrying a 9 year old, but it's funny because it's just twisted not because it's something I know muslims do. Perhaps you know something I do not, but it wouldn't have had the same bite if she said "because Im not 16 anymore"...well she obviously isn't 16 but it's not nearly as twisted. It's odd for the US at least, but I recognize that 16 may be old enough to marry without parental permission somewhere.

3) I don't know shit about muslim religion, the comedian says he doesn't know a fucking thing.

It sounds like you heard what you wanted to hear instead of what the comedian said. Perhaps if he had said "Native Americans" instead of "Muslims". They too are part of society, and I don't know shit about Native American religion to laugh and actually know what the guy was joking about meant something. Now if he said something about casinos and Native Americans....or tomahawks or teepees, shit like that. But do they have something to do with their religion? Fuck if I know.

A-10 Close Air Support Hits Too Close

"As far as you, this particular Colonel might have never worked with armor"

Actually he was an Armored Colonel. Since when do Chaplains, Lawyers or Doctors command assaulting regiments? You're really overreaching here.

"Maybe he was briefed that he would be looking at the UK counterpart to the Bradley"

Maybe, if so the people who briefed him were idiots. The Scorpion is a light tank and plays a completely different role. In any case I didn't know a single soldier in my time with the armored who couldn't identify 99% of the armored vehicles in service from front or side silhouettes or from a picture ESPECIALLY not ones so common as a Scorpion and a Bradley. The zipperheads drilled on that stuff all the time.

When I was in Basic Training we had a US Marine who'd served for 5 years in the US forces in my platoon. He was a dual Canadian/US citizen and after working with the Canadian forces on an exercise he saw the difference in calibre and enrolled in the Canadian forces. He said that Canadian basic training was tougher than anything he'd gone through as a marine.

EVERY enlisted member goes through that training.

Really if you've never worked extensively with other forces what position are you in to compare?

In front of CFB Shilo there is an M109 which was LOST by American forces on exercise. For those who don't know an M109 is mobile artillery, it looks like a tank only taller. After a US exercise on a Canadian base it's common to find teepees made of M16s that have been left behind. These are not things competent soldiers do.

Grand Canyon Skywalk - Don't Look Down!

pipp3355 says...

tee-hee...

native americans don't really dress like that tho, do they? it looks too shiny and.. ceremonial.. like something you'd see in a parade. can't imagine them wearing clothes like that back in the day when they were hunting deer and building canoes and those big tents (teepees?) and suchlike..
