From 1989 to 2001, Johnson served as an associate judge of the DeKalb County magistrate's court. He was elected to the DeKalb County Commission in 2000 and served from 2001 to 2006.

CRT and 1619 are adults dreams that maybe Americans like you can grow up enough and gain the testicular fortitude to learn their own history without whitewashing it for fear of catching the vapors and offending your delicate sensibilities. Doing that, ignoring centuries of deeply ingrained systemic racism, from legally considering black people subhumans, only 3/5 of a person ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-fifths_Compromise ) , to Jim Crow to redlining (Trump's favorite kind of racism) to the more subtle but pervasive racism of legislation aimed directly at black people without directly mentioning race (like voter ID laws and minimal polling places in black neighborhoods and gluts of polling places in predominantly white neighborhoods) has allowed ignoramuses to believe racism is over or never existed....because they don't see it with their blinders on, not because it's not there.

This is why education beyond 8th grade matters, Bob. Proud ignorance isn't a good look and gets you ridiculed every time you confidently spout nonsense.

I'm Minnesotan. We have a weird collective tendency to say something bland but genial in place of blunt honesty (aka
"Minnesota nice"), and inserting a bit of subtle sarcasm is an informal pastime. I've had literal decades of practice, though it feels subtlety has become rather pointless of late.

Without wanting to re-litigate the Damore case, I feel like there's a subtle but crucial difference in those two cases.

AFAIK, Damore was fired because he actively did something; he wrote an internal memo to Google.

If Google had required him to sign something supporting gender diversity or whatever, that would be more comparable.

I never heard of her before. But then again I don't watch television. Her facial expressions are so subtle but so full of emotion. Truly a great actress in my book of winners.

This is true in Canada as well. If you ask a french person what nationality they are, they will ALWAYS say French before Canadian. In their eyes, they are French who happen to live in Canada, and French will always be their primary identity. Even within Canada, they are considered a "Distinct Society." Quebec has their own laws that are above and beyond the Federal laws. A lot of these laws pertain to maintaining their French status first.

Label laws in Canada say we always have to have French and English on everything you buy, but in Quebec, they don't require English. Same with signage.

So the French do have a different way of assigning their allegiances. To some it may be subtle, but it's actually pretty entrenched in their culture.
