WONKA (2023 Movie) Trailer | Timothée Chalamet, Hugh Grant

cloudballoon says...

It's Hollywood using the excuse that it's "introducing a classic for this generation" some such BS.

Roald Dahl’s works are being rewritten to rid of age-old stereotype/racism/sexism/imperialism/whatever-ism fit for this political cycle because there are THAT many stupid people who can't see an old work in old lens.

Kids Try Exotic Fruits

cloudballoon says...

Not directed at you, more like pointing out the mentality of the video producer(s). If you're offended, I apologize.

Although I'm less sure of this now -- you can call it borne out of stereotyping/cliche -- but Asians (where most of these so-called "Exotic" fruits featured here are regularly seen & consumed) typically don't go gaga over EVERTHING. Similar to the way British don't typically do standing ovation for every live performance. Easy rewards cheapen everything, as that's especially insulting/disrespectful to the real achievers that put in hard work.

I'm taught to don't just only say nice things... Positive reenforcement is not a bad thing, but gotta earn it, and never go over-the-top. You know, call a spade a spade, constructive criticism and all that probably worth more in the long run, and more illuminating. We don't raise snowflakes in my clan.

Barbie | Teaser Trailer

cloudballoon says...

I STILL have no expectation for the movie. I don't see Margot Robbie as a good cast for the stereotypical "Barbie" character unless the movie's a spoof, unlike her role as Harley Quinn which as 100% genius.

But as a trailer -- the purpose of which is to hype up the fanbase AND pull people in to see a movie they otherwise might not -- this one's totally winning eyeballs IMO. Totally deliver more than any other trailers I've seen for many, many years.

okay...you did offer some sources. couple of them reliable and one wouldn't line the cat box with.

did read the surgery was in '88, and webmd article basically said no worries.

so what was the point? what was at the end of that labyrinth?

dirty shame about the world hating americans.

damn.

odd, that...just got through a piece that questioned the stereotype of 'ugly americans' in europe. many europeans found other europeans more objectionable (russians came up often).

have met with a LOT of people from around the world. some here and some on travels...most seemed okay w/my presence. going to put that alongside the daily news source. [might be right about those saudis that threw rocks at us...but that was a misunderstanding]

...and traveling along w/mom...spent more time in strangers' homes than museums.

*ahem* maybe it's more the person than the people. [found that everywhere]

I don't buy into stereotypes and generalizations given to whole generations or groups of people. Saying it over and over doesn't make it true. Not interested in anecdotal stories. Show me the evidence.

I don't know I would say unartful. Maybe not as racially sensitive as possible.

If the black guys are part of his group, plants if you like, they wouldn't be who he's talking to. Could he have said "Chris, Robert, and Mike, the black guys in the back, would smoke all of you"? Yes. Would it add much to his argument or mean much to his audience? Not really imo.

I'm pretty certain they are part of his group, there as demonstrations, not random participants. If that's correct, they would know his script beforehand and easily could have suggested using their names if it mattered to them.

If they were random participants, as I said, he made quite a gambit based on stereotypes, which isn't smart and is itself racist.

greatgooglymoogly said:

The message he was trying to make is perfectly valid and worthwhile. He just did an unartful job of making it. If I was one of the guys in the back and we knew each other, I would be insulted to be referred to by my race instead of by name. "Chris, Robert, and Mike over there are faster than you all" comes off a lot more respectful than "those black guys". If he didn't know their names, "those guys in the back" would have been preferable.

And if he is making assumptions, that is exactly why I highlighted his choice of words, to point out that he was making assumptions. Pointing this out doesn't detract from his message that nobody has equal opportunity.

Ironic thing is, the vast majority of East Asian actors/actresses you do see in Hollywood are single eye-lid. It's like Hollywood just won't hire Asians that's not stereotyped to death.

I love how trump supporters keep citing the number that is smaller than the vote count biden got as some sort of feux proof of something. Yeah... Trump got 74,000,000 votes. Biden got 81,283,098.

You wonder why people stereotype those like yourself as "stupid." Maybe if you didn't keep pushing such stupid ideas? Just a thought.

Oh also, trump got 74,222,593 (you rounding up a lot there brah)

How many people would stereotype these guys because of their pants and their hair and the color of their skin? How many people would look at them and use exactly the word you're thinking of? And how many of those people do you think would exhibit even the tiniest fraction of humanity, kindness and decency that these men showed?

I really hope this video changes someone's mind.

Certainly? You shouldn't try to speak for everyone. You don't have any idea how many people like pilk and or dilk. ;-)
I think most adult people are offput at the thought of drinking human milk, but it's undeniably healthy, and almost everyone has done it.

There actually is a highly regarded chef working on pig milk cheese who claims it's delicious, it's not the milk that's the problem there, it's the milking. Sows are not docile and don't have easily milked teats. Same for bitches (female dogs). If they had udders, there would definitely be cultures milking them.

Mongols created an empire from near nothing in part by drinking large quantities of milk, even though it seems they were likely all lactose intolerant when that started. They found it worth the discomfort.
The Massai also owe their existence to drinking milk, and they seem exceptionally healthy.

While it's true, most of the world doesn't NEED milk, they do need calcium and milk may be the only source available when calcium rich vegetables aren't. From precursory research it seems a majority of people around the world do drink some milk, but not enough to meet daily calcium recommendations.

I'll hazard a guess based on your comments that you're vegan. Please don't be a stereotype and food shame non vegans, especially if you're going to be fast and loose with facts to do it.

Well milk is bovine

Large populations of our species just has got it's milks mixed up.

Certainly the thought of pig milk, or dog milk would make any person retch, but we've been conditioned to think that for some reason cows milk is also for us. So much so that we'll kill this little fellow just get his mother's milk. Of course we'll kill her too once her milk no longer flows economically enough. We'll hide it and call it humane to make ourselves feel like good civilised people, even perhaps decide that we need milk, even though most of the world doesn't and is healthier for it.
