Thing is people are simple, and they go by what seems normal based on their norms. A serious dude who acts unusual and confident is terrifying for a noob cop who knows he can get shot by a serious gangster facing a multi life term in a nighmare profit prison if he blinks. Playing devil's advocate...
Even where it's legal, it's usually not legal to smoke in public. It's certainly not responsible to smoke in public where kids are nearby...or others that might be drug tested. You could be doing them great harm. (As a legal smoker, I think about these things). Also, if you're caught and go to jail, you won't be at work, that is direct harm to the company and why most have clauses in the employment contract that criminal activity at any time is grounds for termination.
Sleeping with a 'lady of the evening' is incredibly risky behavior...and illegal. Many people are harmed by STDs, not just the one that contracts them first. Many are easily spread by normal social behaviors, so having someone in the office with, say, a massive herpes outbreak who wipes their face then shakes hands/shares drinks/sneezes/etc is a real safety/health issue. Also, your company is harmed if you're caught and go to jail because you won't be at work.

To the religion example, there's little to be done if people lie and cheat to get around the agreed on rules....but I'll go out on a limb and say that it's wrong, and they'll all burn in hell forever for bearing false witness. ;-)

What if it's done as a health issue? Shaking hands is a major disease vector, and if altering that social behavior just slightly can help us all stay safer, isn't that worth it?
I only fist bump these days. I'm not quite at Howie Mandel level, but I understand him. I always feel that if I'm going to shake your hand, I might as well go ahead and just give you a hug (and probably a pat on the back too), no?

I've lived here in Thailand for 8+ years teaching English in primary and secondary schools, and that was rather weird -- if he was going to do something like that (show respect to the winner), I would have expected him to do a very deferential "wai" (the Thai bow / hands pressed together gesture). That is what they would do in Thai boxing.

I wonder if this is a school with an English program, so he picked up some of the cultural elements also. I don't think I've ever seen Thai students shake hands unless it was something I or another foreign teacher taught them to do.

LOL what's he talking about? Plenty of UFC fights end with fighters hugging or shaking hands. You have the rare exceptions from idiots like Bisping and the Diaz brothers but most high level fighters are very sportsmanlike.

OMG as if life wasn't hard enough and now people are attacking with knife rings to spread viruses. Never shake hands without having them show both sides first. If they look at you weird, be kind and pass the word on about the danger from knife rings.
