newtboyI’ve had a few, from the ubiquitous grasshopper to a racing Kyoto 4wd. I remember the old speed controllers not being good at minimum power…a tiny bit of stick and you would hear the controller whine but no movement, a bit more it would shudder a bit but not move, a bit more and it would suddenly jump forward a few inches before I could pull power back to crawl. Tiny precise movement was difficult, at least for me. That was also over 30 years back.
Granted, I was known for only having two throttle positions in my RC driving repertoire…full off (and breaking) or full throttle. My full size off road racing style was similar.
I still think the transition from static to in motion is hard to control at those scales (maybe electronics can overcome that now), and it’s easy to overshoot the needed power, especially in the heat of battle.
I don't remember the model my brothers & I had anymore, as it was like over 3 decades ago, but they were analog Tamiyas. In addition to being analog sticks, there were sliders that I can fine tune acceleration limits on every axis (can control helicopters too). And that was then. Can't imagine entering these competition without these type of advanced controls with if you have a in-it-to-win-it mentality.

Yeah I guess that's possible if the large one is too gunho and floor it.

newtboyThe Russian army is 10 times larger….Ukrainian grandmothers seem to be stronger than the Russian military at this point. Indeed, RC airplanes are taking it to the Russians. Bayraktar!
The unfortunate part is there’s a crazy person in charge who seems itching to use nukes before he’s ousted. I wouldn’t be surprised if the military failure was planned to give him the excuse to go nuclear.
Remember, he recently said there’s no point in the world existing if Russia isn’t part of it….guaranteed he thinks the same about Russia existing if he’s not president/dictator for life….so to extrapolate, there’s no point in the world existing if Putin isn’t in charge of Russia….and he has nukes.

Not all russians have phones. Plus they are anyway mostly sitting in vehicles stuck on roads sometimes without gas or food. It is a tactical mess of Trump-like proportions.
Also ukranian drones are still able to fly. The russians are advancing by the sheer mass of their bodies as usual, no brains or preparation involved.
Unfortunately the Russian army is 10 times stronger than the Ukrainian.

Traveling Downwind Faster Than Windspeed

Back in January, someone got their RC glider up to 548mph in winds gusting to 65 mph.
I'm now half convinced that a "faster than the wind" wind-based aircraft is theoretically possible. It would need to be made of absurdly strong & lightweight materials though.

Actually, it's an interesting but inefficient way to fund their rescue services that save stupid Americans who go hiking where they don't belong and get stuck.
For years, they couldn't get on SKYTV, the European ESPN. They would film events and send them to SKYTV, never getting a reply. An organizer eventually called to find out why, and SKYTV told them they weren't interested in RC cars....Only to fall out of their seats when it was explained those are full size cars with drivers. At least that's what our host told me when we were in Iceland to see it live.
