What Pixar Animators Do In Their Spare Time

nock says...

They messed up a little bit. Hand wound pocket watches don't tick in the traditional sense as they have a balance spring that causes the balance wheel to oscillate at a resonant frequency typically much greater than once per second (usually at least 4 beats per second). Only quartz watches have the classic tick/tick/tick sound each second. Those only came out in the late 1960's and don't require winding.

A Message for the Anti-Vaccine Movement

newtboy says...

I was happy to read that this isn't 100% comedy. Doctors are actually refusing to serve patients that won't vaccinate.

From Quartz:
If you don’t believe in vaccinations, then your doctor might not accept your child as a patient.

Some practitioners want to protect patients who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons. Others feel it’s their responsibility to mark parents’ opposition to vaccination as unacceptable.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) provides guidelines and documents to help pediatricians deal with parents who refuse to immunize their children. The guidelines include a sample letter a practice refusing to accept unvaccinated kids may share with their parents, which include very direct statements:

By not vaccinating your child you are taking selfish advantage of thousands of others who do vaccinate their children, which decreases the likelihood that your child will contract one of these diseases. We feel such an attitude to be self-centered and unacceptable.

Well...........THAT'S Gratitude For You!!!

What this movie did was talus we should never take gratitude for granite. He'd have won in any quartz of public opinion, and furthermore is so impressive if any female judge presided, he'd have boulder over with his charms.

As a bonus, it manages to keep time only few orders of magnitude worse than a 50 cent quartz crystal oscillator does. Impressive.

(And yes, of course I know it's really meant to be jewelry more so than a watch)

AsapSCIENCE - 3D Printing will Change Everything

Payback says...

What blows me away is we have gone from goods being expensive, 1-off, completely custom items, to inexpensive, mass-produced, one-size-fits-all items, to inexpensive, 1-off, completely custom items.

A 1930s hand crafted wind up watch -> a Timex quartz watch -> a self-designed, 3D printed, wind-up watch that looks identical to the 1930s handcrafted one.

The idea of consumerism will change so that we no longer need to purchase constructed things from companies which overcharge you by inflating the costs of resources. You'll just need to purchase the resources themselves.

And then when anything can be manipulated into anything, we will no longer purchase things from other people, but rather purchase their services.

-Incidentally, Glenn Tipton's b-day is the 25th, and former lead guitarist K.K. Downing's, the 27th-

Full moon is rising
The sky is black
I need your call I'm coming back
The road is straight cast
Wind's in my eyes
The engine roars between my thighs

From desert plains I bring you love
From desert plains I bring you love

Wild mountain thunder
Echoes my quest
My body aches but I'll not rest
Quartz light to guide me
Till sunrise leads
My passion screams, my heart it bleeds

From desert plains I bring you love
From desert plains I bring you love

Then in the distance
I see you stand
On the horizon you raise your hand
In burning rubber
I end my quest
You fall into my arms at last

From desert plains I bring you love

But haven't you heard of fractal encrypted storage (FES) on quartz crystals ?? Oh no... I have said too much.

Either he lied to you or their retention is not very high. Possessing the amount of storage it would take just to log packet headers for all internet communications is would be an 8th Wonder of the World kinda feat. Keeping the actual data would be practically impossible.

So, assuming its real (why not), why would someone spend the resources to render fruit and rocks. It just seems a rather odd and frankly, boring choice.

It's an advertisement for a company that makes fancy kitchen surfaces. The crystals are the quartz that their product is made out of. Apparently it has some King Midas like properties as well; everything that touches it becomes a crystal. But those pepper shards do look pretty tasty.
