I'm starting to not get new pop culture references. Does this mean I'm getting old?

Oh, no. Of course not. It means you are an adult. That usually takes until at least 30 these days at a minimum.
edit: Almost as soon as I wrote that, I realized the logical fallacy. Truth be told, in all likelihood, the 25-year-olds I know today who still play Pokemon and watch Naruto will never really become adults. I suppose maybe that isn't a bad thing though.
So being an adult means you can't like fun stuff any more? Fuck that!

Why the Ending of "Star Wars" is Secretly Kind of Dumb

Is this still considered fresh and entertaining? Endless videos with deep discussions about pop-culture horseshit? Tarantino started it with the "Like a virgin" scene in RD and since then pop-culture has been eating its own feces.

Yes. Yes it is.

Ah, okay, thanks!
In reply to this comment by kir_mokum:
my only point is that she's really talking about an ancient story archetype that isn't new or contained in the realm of contemporary pop culture. it's going to be a long time before we breed this meme out of our cultural DNA.

In reply to this comment by hpqp:
I don't think I get your point. Care to elaborate?

damsel in distress is still used and is usually sexist. gotcha.

God Bless America - Official Red Band Trailer

ulysses1904 says...

Just got done watching this, it was an incredibly disappointing movie. Trust me, this trailer has all the highlights. The script is unbelievably dumb, it's every bit as pandering as the reality shows it mocks. And the pop-culture mentality and monologues of the girl sidekick are just as shallow and contemptible as the celeb-worship culture she wants to destroy. It's not all bad, Joel Murray has some good lines about the current state of the country but that's about it.

Stupid stupid movie.

UNREAL BBC Augusta Masters 2012 Crazy Golf

Why not? I'm not into golf, or any sports really. But golf is clearly a sport.
I googled "golf is not a sport" to see if there was some comedic or pop culture reference to do with that phrase but simply found a bunch of rednecks justifying your statement.
So in your own words, why is golf not a sport?

I consider golf a game, not a sport. Every dictionary has a slightly different definition, but they all agree that a sport involves physical exertion, skill and competition against another individual or team. Strictly speaking, golf only meets one of those requirements, skill. The physical exertion is subjective, the most physical aspect of golf is walking to/from the golf cart. Golf is not always played as a competition, and can be played by one's self.

Do you consider billiards or a sport? It's hitting little balls into holes, so basically golf without the walking. Like golf, it requires skill and can be played competitive or alone. I looked up billiards in the 4 most popular online dictionaries and they all refer to it as a game, not a sport.

Record-breaking Weather Like You've Never Imagined

I have a hard time listening to science when it's presented by pop culture figureheads like this guy, Michael Moore, Rosie O'Donnell, et al. I keep expecting him to say "really? really?" at the end of every mind-blowing statistic.
