Star Wars Battlefront Gameplay Launch Trailer

Oil Change Scam - Canada

RFlagg says...

Having worked at Walmart doing oil changes, and another tire/lube place, I wouldn't say it's super easy to do on your own, especially with newer cars. Most newer cars have a a large skid plate that is a pain in the ass to remove. Ford makes their especially difficult as the skid plate is full, so if you are working in a pit, it's very hard to get to all the screws (usually Torx bits)... Many others are using skid plates under the car too, though many have access panels to the drain plug area and the oil filter area (oddly enough one of them, I think it was Mazda, had an access panel for the oil filter, but it was flipped as if installed backwards, but then the drain plug panel wouldn't be correct, so very odd design for awhile)... Sadly most of them seem to be moving to full skid plates as well. My favorites were the GM Ecotech type, where it has a canister filter near the top, drain the oil, open the canister (tool is cheap enough too), close the drain, replace the filter, tighten everything up and add 5 qts (though one of them took a slightly different amount).

That said, if you don't mind crawling under the car on a ramp, it isn't overly difficult. It is a very simple process.

I've learned from working those places. Ford's full skid plates suck, and sadly they seem to be joined by others. (Skid plate is apparently required for proper cooling, and I'd guess it also helps improve gas millage). Chrysler tends to strip, both the pan and the nut... Chrysler also has a long standing problem with lug and lug nuts.... GMs are okay for that sort of stuff (oil, tires, etc)... I didn't like doing tires on European cars as they use that odd lug stud instead of a lug/nut combo, which makes for a pain in the ass to remove and put the wheel back on the car (I can't imagine having to do that in the rain or snow on the side of the road, lug/nut combos makes so much more sense). Toyota can be a pain in the ass as they are moving to a thing that requires a very special custom cup to remove the filter housing...

EDIT to add: I also didn't know anything when I first started at Walmart... the advantage there over the other place was no upselling other services. Now if a car required Synthetic (newer GMs a few Toyotas mostly) then we would have to sell that oil change rather than the cheaper one for liability reasons, but we didn't check all the other stuff and didn't care... now if we say something dangerous we'd let the owner know, but otherwise... Now the other place we did check the other fluids and the managers would try to upsell services.

Jono Lester passes 27 cars in the final 6 laps @Clipsal 500

oritteropo says...

The full coverage explains that. This is a handicap series, where professional drivers and faster cars compete against amateurs and slower cars.

As a professional driver in clearly the fastest car in the field, Jono Lester was awarded a whopping 57 second pit stop.

He might even have still managed to win, except that there was a safety car just as the pit window opened and although some cars pitted straight away he didn't.

It was still fairly close

One other thing to point out is that the series format did help with the overtaking, since some of the drivers weren't used to such long races on a street circuit and would have been getting tired at the end (and therefore didn't put up much of a fight).

I can't believe I watched the whole thing.

Can't help wondering: If he's so freaking fast, why was he so far behind to start with? He made it seem so easy to pass all those other automobiles.

The rozzers arrested a single (!) person during those clashes that saw 34 cops injured. One person. One. They arrested some 200 folks during a peaceful protest against open pit coal mining in Garzweiler last week.

But wait, it gets better. The only person they arrested in Heidenau was... this journalist/photographer.

Police in Saxony is pretty much in cahoots with those Nazis, we learned that much from the investigation surrounding the NSU terror cell.

Real Time with Bill Maher: Christianity Under Attack?

JustSaying says...

Three things I have to say, @bobknight33:
1. You're complaining about christianity being attacked. Ok, fine, I'll tell you something: I am tired of your religious beliefs invading my life like an middle eastern dictator a small, oily country. Oh, I have it good, I'm a straight, white middle-european man, I'm fine so far. Others are not. They're tired as well.
I can go on a meth-bender, marry one of the Kardashians in Vegas and annul the whole affair in less than a week. If I win the lottery, I can post on Craigslist and get myself a nice gold-digging whore who'll sign a certificate that makes us husband and wife if I'm willing to trade lackluster blowjobs for money. Best part, it ain 't prostitution if you're married, legally worldwide. Heck, I can even become an abusive piece of shit as long as I can beat her well enough so she won't complain to others.
Because marriage is sanctimonious.
If I was gay and would like to marry the guy of my dreams that I've been with for 20 years, that isn't possible. Because the book doesn't approve.
If my sister got raped, you people would force her to birth the child of her rapist. Her concerns don't matter, life is a holy gift from god. Care to explain to me the position of the catholic church (you know, those christians that make up the majority of christianity) on slavery during centuries slavery? How holy was life in all those european colonies back in the day with all these missionaries teaching the good book? What exactly was their statement as an organisation when millions or people were murdered during the third Reich?
All that silence but when it comes to abortion, you people show up with guns and show the value of this great gift by murdering doctors. Fuck my sisters concerns, right? It just rape, walk it off.
I'm well of, I could join the club as a full member anytime. As long as I'm not calling the cops on the pedophile priests and the self-loathing faggots can stand on their pulpits and tell little children they're broken. I could be among you.
But I have a conscience. I can't buy all that talk about love and forgiveness and ignore all that hatred and cruelty that is in the very basis of your beliefs, that wretched, old bible of yours.
I have to look that man in the mirror in the eyes.
The only way you can impose all that crap on me anymore if through the government. I believe your faith has as much place in there than Tom Cruise's. None.
The Prodigy said it best and I think the people who lived at the time the bible was written would agree: Invaders must die.
Your religion invades my rights as a human being.

2. Did he rise?
Nope, little, brown Jewish got killed. End of facts, begin of story. I don't trust the testimony of men (and I said this before) who consider a walkman witchcraft. People at that time could be convinced that they farted because they swallowed an angry spirit that wants to escape.
You book did a terrible job of explaining how the world came to be (we're golems that had so much incest that they inbred mankind), makes up the worst disastermovies (everything turns to Waterworld but we have a boat with a pair of every animal in existence [imagine all those different kinds of ants alone] and then incest till population is back up) and turns mushroomtrips/mental illness in supposedly accurate future predictions (you know it's the end of the world because none of the riders is called "Incest").
The only reason people buy into the mythology and the extended universe (where's that bible chapter about Satan ruling the Sarlac Pit and Santa being canon again? ) is because for centuries children were taught it at a young age. And then you told them not to question it as heretics get the stake. Ashes yes but not the quick Buffy way.
Don't get me wrong, I like that Jesus fellow and I'm willing to believe his basic message but let's be honest. If J.K. Rowling was born 2000 years earlier, we'd pray to Harry Potter and wear lightning shaped jewelery around our neck. You guys got big because the Roman empire made you relevant. That's it.

3. What's up with '53'? Is that the christian answer to '42'?

Mountain biking with no chain

newtboy says...

In off road racing (which I used to do), equipment failure was really usually more of an issue than driving speed. Something broke in almost every desert race I ran, it's not letting that stop you that the sport was all about, even more so when you are a lone wolf racing team (one man driver/owner/mechanic-no pit crew). I have to think the same goes in mountain biking.

Asmo said:

Where do you stop? Tyre goes flat half way down, re-run. Front fork breaks, re-run. Brake breaks, re-run.

Same with most race type disciplines (eg. rally cars), equipment failure is just part of the sport and everyone has to deal with it.

Louis CK Probably won't be Invited back to SNL after this

JustSaying says...

Guys, this ain't so hard...
You're a racist when you assign more or less value as a human being to people of a certain race (ethnical group) than you assign to yourself because of their ethnicity. There's a difference between saying "Stalin is less worth than M.L. King" (personal opinion) and "white people are worth less than blacks". The latter would be racism.
Prejudice is when you have opinions about people before knowing the facts about them.
Walking up to Mike Tyson and saying "You must have a giant cock because all black men are giants" is a prejudice that may be racist but it assigns positive values. Sure, it's offensive, like telling asian people they must be great at math, but somewhat forgivable. You're an ignorant cunt, yeah, but at least you said something flattering. You racist.
Walking up to Mike and telling him "All black men are criminals" is not only prejudice but also racist. Why? Because calling somebody a criminal is a negative judgement. A generalized negative prejudice towards an ethnic group is a racist way of thinking. Mike was convicted for raping his girlfriend. He is a criminal. Not all black men are Tyson. And if they were, I'd prefer the science variant. You're plain wrong.
Now saying "I bet all black people like listening to R'nB music" is just prejudice. There's no judgement here. Right? Unless you consider "he listens to R'n'B" an insult. How about "all polish people love ice cream"? Did you just imply polish people are all fat?
The difference between prejudice and racist prejudice lies entirely in subtext and context. It's not what you say, it's what you mean.
Prejudice is a tightrope made of blurry lines spanning over a pit of outrage. That's why politicians should not walk that way.
Being aware of differences between race, ethnic groups and talking about is simply being hones and probably not giving a shit about political correctness. We ARE different. That's the interesting part.
What we sadly forget is this: to focus on what we have in common. But somebody already said that way more eloquent than I ever could:
"Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs,
dimensions, senses, affections, passions; fed with
the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject
to the same diseases, healed by the same means,
warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer
as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed?
If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us,
do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?
If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that.

The Nepalese 7.9 earthquake also wiped out the Everest camps

lucky760 says...

Holy crap. Horrible what's happened and happening to the natives there.

Just brings to mind what I just saw on Vice the other night about how the $10 billion that was donated toward relief for the quake in Haiti and how that was a big money grab for developers who used the money to build soccer stadiums and zero homes, and all the people who were affected by the quake are still homeless with no electricity or plumbing, dying of cholera.

Makes donating seem like a bad idea.
