It's also the opening theme for the Wire.

while great in its own right, this got an immediate upvote from me for the awesome 70's TV show opening theme music.

I think someone else did submit the series' opening theme, which, as you said, is different than this.

I need to go back and watch the original series, if only because I love the new one so much.
