Christmas Food Court Flash Mob, Hallelujah Chorus

Xax says...

Came across this video today... and realized it was filmed at the mall I used to frequent all the time in Welland, Ontario. I wouldn't have expected to see something like this in Welland. Neato!

Sliding Cars in Seattle Ice/Snow on 11/22/10

Xax says...

A few winters back in southern Ontario, I saw a city bus sliding sideways down a hill on a 4-lane road, and I could hear everyone screaming as it slid all the way down. Pretty wild. Didn't hit anything though.

The Trews "Highway of Heroes"

Xax says...

A bit more info, from Wikipedia:

The newest single, "Highway Of Heroes", was inspired by the 2006 death of Capt. Nichola Goddard, the first Canadian female soldier killed in Afghanistan and a friend of the members of Trews. It refers to the stretch of Highway 401 in Ontario, between CFB Trenton and downtown Toronto, where hundreds gather on bridges and overpasses to mourn soldiers killed in Afghanistan while the bodies of the fallen soldiers are transported from Trenton to downtown for autopsy. The song was made available on iTunes in Canada only, with proceeds from the song are going to Canadian Hero Fund, a charity that provides academic scholarships to the spouses and children of soldiers killed in combat.

QI - Hilarious Moment: People from Scotland

TickTock says...

I got your point... and in the past you would have been correct. This video, and following replies have honestly set me straight. No getting down on anyone because of some artifical line in the sand for me after this. I'M A NEW MAN!

"Actually I'm from Canadian, but America is pretty close and let's face it, we're all pretty similar once you cut through all that bullshit!"

I love how the English guys are getting down on the Scot. It's an interesting reflection of the state of the world. Geographically, they are so close, but they seem to think they are so different. Drop all of them in downtown Shanghai or Bagdad and no one there would be able to tell them apart.
Give it up, you're all from the UK. In the other 99% of the world no one gives a shit. Move on.

Lol. What i love even more is that you're apparently not from the UK yet making an uneducated statement about the relationship between english/scottish based on jokes about the stereotypical scottish person/stereotypical english person.
Say what you like about our love/hate relationship, but we all died alongside each other protecting the Great!!! British Isles whilst the rest of the (new) world was busy turning a quick profit off the situation and waiting for the winner to be decided. They're all my brothers and sisters and whilst i may make a joke about them, and they may make a joke about me, there's no one finer, braver or tougher i'd rather trust my joint national safety to.
If i said exactly what you said about about americans/canadaians (you're american, right?), you'd bawl your eyes out!

So, just for fun, while I may not agree with TickTocks statement, Here's a neat picture showing the idiocy of comparing England/Scotland, to Canada/United States. (yes, that's Australia, UK, and U.S., but it gets the point across)
Even more perspective on that, total of area of the UK (Scotland and obviously included) = 244,820 km km/sq.
Ontario, one of canadas smaller provinces, has an area of 917,741 km/sq.
One Canadian province is larger than both your countries combined. So, no, if you said the same thing about Americans/Canadians, I'd probably laugh at you for making such a stupid comparison.

--> "If i said exactly what you said about about americans/canadaians (you're american, right?), you'd bawl your eyes out!"
--> "If i said exactly what"
--> "If i said"
--> "If"
I think that's my point proven right there! Sorry you had to get in the firing line of my insulting generalisation, but that was the point.

Woman Viciously Assaults Police Officer

Krupo says...

Rage-osterone. The other *femme cop is like, "ugh, why was I assigned on duty with AJ?"

>> ^JiggaJonson:

I don't think the people supporting what the girl did in this situation really understand what's happening here. I'm going to echo what Reiwan said " if anyone here on the sift was getting bubbles blown in their face from some girl, you would be livid." Regardless of what it is, the girl was taking something and deliberately putting it onto a police officer's face.
Sure bubbles are harmless, but so is spit, water, etc, and it's not the "what's being thrown in your face" that is creating an issue it's, again, the fact that something is being thrown in the face of another individual.
Imagine how up in arms everyone would be if there were 10 cops standing along the fence each with some self righteous hippy blowing bubbles in their faces when some kind of real security problem erupted. Now I understand that this wasn't the scenario but if you let one person do it sooner or later more will want to join in. I wish the video didn't skip over the "moments later" section so I could be a bit more informed about what happened but as it stands, I am under the presumption that the police were well within their rights.
Edit - Duckman was apparently writing the same time i was. Don't act like you've never asked a kid to stop doing something annoying and then in a strange twist of fate they didn't comply with your request.

The fence was way away - this happened in Parkdale - FAR FAR away from the fence, about a 15 minute drive west.

I recognize the buildings in fact - I'm pretty sure it's right here:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1274+Queen+St+W,+Toronto,+Toronto+Division,+Ontario+M6K+1L2,+Canada

Ironically they're right next door to "Parkdale Community Legal Services"

Just left of center screen.
There's a cop that trips, loses the shield, and falls on their face.
That was totally fucking awesome.
But no, there really was next to no violence in this video. I don't know the whole story.. I don't know if these really were just non-violent protesters, or the ones who are going around burning police cars and wrecking buildings.
We've dropped the ball on this. By no means should we have bid on hosting G20 this year, especially after we just shelled out a lot of money for the Olympics.
Harper should've realized that people would be pissed about our tax money going to both things as it is, not to mention like $57,000 on an indoor lake 100 meters from a REAL lake. And now that this is happening, we don't even have the military here clearing the streets of the violent protesters, just rent-a-cops doing their best, and whatever police force the city can afford to send out.
While I disagree with disbanding a non-violent protest in this manner, at least nobody (except the cop who fell on their face) got hurt.

Canada shelled out 10 Million Dollars in Damages to Maher Arar, justly, I think they didn't have a reason to bid on jack shit for some time.

10 Million Dollars to right a wrong. G20 and jackboots are small fries compared to the shit the Allies get up to these days.

At least Ontario had the balls to pay out. The US didn't do jack shit, except deny the case its day in court.

Alas, my rant is beside the point of this video.

More to the point, though, do you think the Military should be clearing the street of protesters, violent or not? I don't know if Canada has a Posse Comitatus law but it is not the Military's Job to disperse angry citizens. The Military's job is to kill, which is exactly why the Posse Comitatus act exists. It puts soldiers in a very bad place, when they have to act on their own soil. I could argue the same point about Police Actions in sovereign nations, but I'd be arguing against years of Policy.

fuck Ontario. Its because of those blind eyed self loving mother fuckers that the Canadian government is always whatever they want it to be. All the votes are in the east so the west pretty well has no say.

fuckers, let the earthquakes hit'em.

as in everyone hates ontario or god hates ontario just as he hates the rest of us ?
