Burzynski: Cancer Is Serious Business
From the film:
NARRATOR (reading along with title card of Dr. Nicholas Patronas):
During this trial, one of the National Cancer Institute’s leading experts, Dr. Nicholas Patronas, a board-certified radiologist since 1973, professor of radiology at Georgetown University, and founder of the neuroradiology section of the National Cancer Institute [SOURCE: NIH Staff Pages]—recognized the absurdity of the Texas Medical Board’s case against Burzynski, put his own career on the line and flew himself to Texas to testify on Dr. Burzynski’s behalf. Dr. Patronas testified under oath his role at the National Cancer Institute.
NARRATOR (reading along with the official court transcript from the May 24, 1993 hearing): [SOURCE: Original complete court transcript of the entire testimony 1993]
Q (Jaffe): Basically, just in layman’s terms, you do all of the imaging work and interpretation for the National Cancer Institute’s testing of drugs?
A (Dr. Patronas): Exactly. That’s my job, to assess the effectiveness of the drugs that are given there.
Q (Jaffe): Did there come a time when you became aware of Dr. Burzynski?
A (Dr. Patronas): Yes, the National Cancer Institute asked me to join a group of other physicians and scientists, and come to Houston on a site visit to Dr. Burzynski’s Institute. I was called as an expert in assessing the images to evaluate the effectiveness of his treatment. The basic conclusion, was that in five of the patients with brain tumors, that were fairly large, the tumor resolved, disappeared.
Q (Jaffe): And that’s part of what you do at the hospital, is to evaluate treatments on brain cancer patients? A: Well, since I am the neuroradiologist I see all brain tumors. And I see a large volume of them.
Q (Jaffe): You testified that five of the patients had their tumors resolved, they all...
A (Dr. Patronas): Disappeared.
Q (Jaffe): Disappeared? Can you give us some kind of context of that? How often does that happen? Just by spontaneous remission?
A (Dr. Patronas): I’m not aware that spontaneous remission occurs. The available treatments rarely produce results like that. The only medication, the only treatment, which I think is a last resort, is radiation therapy. Conventional chemotherapy is—provides very little, nothing, basically. So when this happens it is very rare. In these cases, all of the patients had already failed radiation.
Q (Jaffe): What happens with these patients, who failed radiation, with brain cancer?
A (Dr. Patronas): That’s it. They die.
Q (Jaffe): You are saying, that if someone has already failed radiation, there’s not much else?
A (Dr. Patronas): Nothing to offer, exactly.
Q (Jaffe): And there is nothing that you can do at the National Cancer Institute?
A (Dr. Patronas): Nothing we can do, not at this present time.
Q (Jaffe): What about these five patients? How come they lived?
A (Dr. Patronas): Well, it’s amazing, the fact that they are not handicapped from the side effects of any treatment, and the side effects of most aggressive treatments are worse than the tumor itself, so these particular individuals not only survived, but they didn’t have major side effects. So I think it’s impressive and unbelievable.
Q (Jaffe): How many times have you seen this in your experience? How often does this happen?
A (Dr. Patronas): I don’t. I have not seen it at any time.
Q (Jaffe): Now, let me ask you your opinion or advice. Based on what you have seen, what would happen, let’s say, for some reason Dr Burzynski’s brain tumor patients can’t get his medicine anymore, and have to go off treatment. What’s going to happen to them?
MR. HELMCAMP (prosecutor): Objection, Your Honor, not relevant.
MR. JAFFE (defense): I think it is relevant. That’s really the issue we are advocating in this case.
JUDGE: Overruled.
A (Dr. Patronas): I think these patients will die.

Does Shyamalan care about Airbender's bad reviews?
you know, he really is kind of the nicholas sparks of the film industry
Students from Hogwarts four houses say what their thing is.
Gryffindor
Gryffindor values bravery, daring, nerve, and chivalry. Its emblematic animal is the lion and its colours are scarlet and gold. Minerva McGonagall is the most recent Head of Gryffindor. Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington aka Nearly Headless Nick is the house ghost. The founder of the house is Godric Gryffindor. Gryffindor corresponds to the element of Fire. The common room is located in one of the highest towers at Hogwarts, the entrance is situated on the seventh floor in the east wing of the castle and is guarded by a portrait of The Fat Lady. She permits entrance if given the correct password which is changed numerous times throughout the school year.
Hufflepuff
Hufflepuff, founded by Helga Hufflepuff, is the most inclusive among the four houses, valuing hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play rather than a particular aptitude in its members. Its emblematic animal is the badger, and Black and Gold are its colours. Pomona Sprout is the Head of Hufflepuff. The Fat Friar is its ghost. Hufflepuff corresponds roughly to the element of earth. The Hufflepuff Dormitories and common room are located somewhere in the basement, near the castle's kitchens.
Ravenclaw
Ravenclaw values intelligence, knowledge, and wit. Its emblematic animal is the eagle, and its colours are blue and bronze. The Ravenclaw Head of House in the 1990s was Filius Flitwick. The ghost of Ravenclaw is the Grey Lady, who was the daughter of Rowena Ravenclaw, the house's founder. Ravenclaw corresponds roughly to the element of air. The Ravenclaw common room and dormitories are located in a tower on the west side of the castle. Ravenclaw students must answer a riddle as opposed to giving a password to enter their dormitories.
Slytherin
Slytherin house values ambition, cunning and resourcefulness and was founded by Salazar Slytherin. Its emblematic animal is the serpent, and its colours are green and silver. Professor Horace Slughorn was the Head of Slytherin during the 1997–1998 school year, replacing Severus Snape, who as well, replaced Slughorn when he retired for the first time several years ago. The Bloody Baron is the house ghost. Slytherin corresponds roughly to the element of water. The Slytherin Dormitories and common room are reached through a bare stone wall in the Dungeons. The Slytherin common room is a long, low underground room (probably under the Hogwarts lake, thus Slytherin house's affiliation with water) with rough stone walls and round greenish lamps hanging from the ceiling.

YOU learn something NEW every DAY ! (Talks Talk Post)
Today I learned that I don't like Nicholas Cage as an actor. Though there are many artists that I dislike, there are relatively few that I didn't dislike immediately, that I have tolerated for so many years, and then suddenly develop or realize a deep-seated dislike for their works. The only other one that I can think of is Elton John. Queen was like that for me too, but after a shorter period of time. I stopped liking them when I was in High School. I stopped liking Elton John when I worked for a month in a kitchen where Elton John was the chef's favourite. And I stopped liking Nicholas Cage today when I saw The Lord Of Death. Great movie, shame it had to be Nick Cage. The script and production were great, the material was on the page. The Lord of Death could have been an academy award winning role. But instead they got Nick Cage.

I think he's a fan-fucking-tastic actor when he picks the right films. Leaving Las Vegas really couldn't have been anyone else. And in Kick-Ass - quirky, interesting, engaging? And i thought he suited The Rock perfectly.
Sometimes amazing, sometimes terrible.
A friend and I were discussing actors the other day.
Some we like, some we hate (looking at you, Hayden Christensen), but we also got on to Nicholas Cage.
Basically, what we realized, was that his films are nuts. He's extreme, he either makes really GOOD movies (Con Air, Kick-ass, Lord of War etc.) or some really TERRIBLE movies (Bangkok Dangerous, etc.) With next to none falling into any form of middleground. The only one I can think of off-hand is really Next, which was entertaining, but only mind-numbingly so.

Chris Dudley Fights Oregon's Elite Waitress Class
As well...,
(using the example at the bottom from the post on YouTube)
If someone's wage is 30% wage and 60-70% Tips, brings up their income level to a decent level, they no longer make minimum wage.
1). The government is getting shafted on the income tax (someone call the IRS)
2). I say: pay the servers the proper wage they deserve, cut out the mandatory tip and raise the food prices to compensate.
This way, the servers get paid a fair wage, the customer isn't forced to tip for bad service and the people pay taxes based on their income true levels so they start paying like the rest of society.
The servers still get the option to be tipped above and beyond, only now they have to work for it.
Also on that note, I'm not sure how this works in the US, but here in Western Canada, all tips go into a single jar and get divided equally amongst the entire server/kitchen staff at the end of each night.
QUOTES FROM YOUTUBE:
"when I was a server I pocketed $100 per 6hour shift on average, plus my hourly wage. So when you look at it 2 dollars an hour I am still pulling in 112 dollars for 6 hours of work that's not to shabby." - nicholaswells
"Thank you for giving us a real life example, Nicholas. $112/6 hours = $18.67 per hour. I encourage anyone who wants to heartily disagree with Dudley on this issue, but I am sick of hearing that waiter/esses make minimum wage; they do NOT. I recall my days in high school when the girls held the waitress jobs at our national chain pizza restaurant. I made $3.50/hour; they made $9/hour ($2 from the employer.) They did NOT received minimum wage--I did. - euroboardgames "
