What attracted Sigourney Weaver to the character of Ripley

newtboy says...

Absolutely the animated series was far superior, and the movie somewhat bland…but the character was still a bad ass action heroine.
Wasn’t it on MTV’s liquid tv first? I remember having to stay up until 1am or later to watch it back before DVRs, even before most people had VCRs.

Edit: not that I disagree about Furiosa.

cloudballoon said:

Furiosa got the advantage because I'd rank Mad Max Fury Road much higher than Æon Flux The Movie. Even though I like Æon more than most critics, that movie's not distinct (dystopian?) enough.

But I'm biased as I saw the original animated series first and it was objectively far superior - very arthouse experimental in its day for an American production. Æon is the movie is just the stock ass-kicking comic heroine in the DC/Marvel vein. Æon in the animated series & the latter comics is something... far more interesting.

Well those are very common I was thinking past those.

But yes those are also good
Also like the MTV unplugged with Willy nelson / Cash .

The History Channel: Making History, History

ant says...

Same for Discovery, MTV, etc. All the good stuff are gone!

Sagemind said:

It's true, the History channel used to focus on historically accurate facts and I loved watching it.

Now it just creates more of the same crap TV that you see everywhere else. The Knowledge Network and Animal Planet are much the same.

Where did all the true documentaries go?

Gensis 3:6 -- " "When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it."

In Judaeo-Christian belief, this is the moment when sin entered the world.

Also, I remember watching this video on MTV and how quickly it was pulled. People'll watch 'Saw' by the million, but the second you refer to real suffering, they get real pissy about that.

Dr Drew's Horrific Coronavirus Advice Compilation

@lucky760 -
I have no real idea....I was just being a smart ass. It's been decades since I've heard either of them. I see them both on tv now and then, but not together. Eric pointed me to this compilation. Is he on Fox now?

I was also stunned. Even for an MTV "Dr", this was awful.

The Untold History of EA's Long Pay-2-Win Love Affair

shagen454 says...

I think if you're going to have P2W - it should take place on a P2W server separate from those who are grinding the game. It's just one of the many reasons WoW isn't all that special anymore. Need a level 100 toon? Pay $30, get one instantly, on any sever ya like, you know with the people who put in 1000 hours of their real life.

I don't really care about loot boxes as long as they are cosmetic. In HOTS or Overwatch it's just like an added bonus, even though most of it is trash. Though, having loot boxes in HOTS is a little different than Overwatch which was an overrated/overpriced $60 game while HOTS (also made by Blizzard) is actually free to fucking play and even then I have most of the toons and never spent a cent and get plenty of loot boxes for free as well.

Keep this shit up though and the underground/indie devs are going to take over the gaming industry. Just like what happened with music, MTV not playing real music, the radio playing the same shit over and over again, major labels putting out garbage over and over again... and it eventually broke the mainstream music industry (thank fucking god).

BBC Brilliant Wrap Up Of Rio 2016 Olympics

ulysses1904 says...

Yeah I know what generation is to blame for this, this hyper-editing was a lazy go-to cliche before the end of MTV's first year in 1981.

By the way, me band sucked after 1993's Zooropa so I disown anything that came after that. Including that song and video. But the pay is still good.

Apparently I'm in the minority but I cant watch videos where no shot is retained longer than one second, it really becomes an effort to watch it. There were some potentially great shots, especially the cityscapes. But all the clips are dropped on the timeline and then diced up, what a waste.
