Dennis Miller coined the term "tracists" for people that look for traces of racism everywhere.
I always enjoy this guy's rants but I wish they would drop that randomly moving camera cliche that a 9th grader would use.

More times then not siftbot doesn't catch the dupes, but will be noticed and duped by other sifters. Its something that happens on a regular basis(it happens to all of us) No big deal but all duplicates get the same treatment as are the rules of the sift. *dupeof=http://videosift.com/video/LOTR-Forced-Perspective-Moving-Camera
Oh my. I'm sorry--I don't load something if Videosift notifies me it's a "dupe"---and I wasn't notified this was a dupe.
Maybe, after a period of time, the Sift lets reposting occur?
Since there is a new audience for the material?
How the Lord of the Rings forced perspectives
I was going to say *dupeof http://videosift.com/video/LOTR-Forced-Perspective-Moving-Camera but the other one appears to be dead.
What's the resolution for this? (And I'm pretty sure siftbot is going to smack me down for not being uber)

I had no idea this is how they pulled it off. I'm so happy that they did this rather than CGI or green-screening!!!
I hope they will do it again for The Hobbit trilogy movies!
SKYFALL - Official Teaser Trailer
@Yogi If I have you to blame then...'DAAAAMN YOU!'.
I don't mind a little bit of moving camera, Private Ryan got it pretty good, there was the motion of the camera as if it were IN the scene, but not so much that you couldn't place all the people and what was happening.
My prime example of this?
The Bourne Indentity, first in serious. An AWESOME film, where the action scenes were nail biting, fantastically staged, and you could SEE what was happening, UNDERSTAND what was going on. Great film.
Next film, Bourne Supremacy. Had a great story, but I couldn't fricken STAND the action scenes, couldn't tell what was going on.
Compare this one from the Bourne Supremacy
with this one from the Bourne Identity
To me, the first one is confusing, a jumble of fast cuts and blurry movement. The second is nicely staged, has good beats, and lets you know what's going on.
I have to say that just watching them again then after not watching either movie for some time, the first one didn't annoy me as much as it did at the time, which is probably due to 2 things:
1) I'm getting used to the god forsaken effect.
&
2) It's not as painful on a small screen. Blow it up so it fills your vision and it's unbearable (which may be some of the problem, as looking at the shots on monitors means they don't get the full effect).
Also, people say that the opening car chase in QOS was awesome here it is, I contend it isn't. This isn't so much to do with shaky cam as it is with insanely quick cutting, never allowing the staging of the scene to be felt, just making it feel like it was edited by a hyperactive 2 year old.
"Your Editing Lacks Continuity"
You're missing my point. I didn't mean it *should* be done that way, I meant it *can* be done that way because the frame of reference is clear.
As for your examples, I think they prove my point. The Christmas Vacation scene uses tons of angles and moving camera, so you need the 180 degree rule. The American History X example is extremely simple with almost all the shots concerning the father and son who are sitting at an angle to each other, so the rule applies. And the Donnie Darko scene is actually a little confusing because they break the rule with the mom and son, and they are sitting at an angle to each other.

PS, this is NOT a dupe of the other video, this one has a moving camera so you can see a lot more of what is going on.

Occam's razor says this is fake -- the most logical obvious simple explanation is that they carefully staged all the seating in this classroom for a perfect camera angle, chose actors perfect for each role, had the teacher make several uninterrupted camera takes of this length, and carefully digitally motion sync'd the eraser and everything else with the moving camera angle.
Then why not have the beginning part be shorter or at least give us more of the aftermath? Or is my sarcasm detector off here?
