The case to rename this famous Christmas plant

drradon says...

Not so inconsistent with how Christianity has been practiced in the past (Spanish Inquisition ring a bell, anyone?) and the looting of resources of native cultures by "Missionaries"... even to the extent of hijacking a pre-Christian "pagan" celebration (winter solstice) in order to draw adherents... Why pick at historical nits when there are much more impactful transgressions related to the holiday celebration???

Whistleblower Exposes Far Right Justices Corruption

newtboy says...

Liar. That’s not what he said. No surprise, you can’t be near the truth, it burns you.

He sent millionaires/billionaires as “stealth missionaries”…not mom and pop evangelicals. Mom and pop prayed and sent cards, billionaires sent hundred thousand dollar and more vacations. He did that because billionaires can make bribes mom and pop can’t…sent stealth because bribing judges is against their religion, ethics, and morals….and justices are apparently exempt from ethic and morality rules and laws so can accept any amount without reporting it but still don’t like the optics.
I would bet you any amount (were you not a welcher) the “conservative” justices never pay for their lunches, which they hold in places like the four seasons where the bill can exceed $1k easily every day. Keep in mind this well funded group was only one of dozens lobbying the conservative justices.

Alito leaked decisions to these billionaires, and let them shape decisions….and was paid well for it. Typically hypocritically, suddenly the right doesn’t care one bit about leaks from the court, when last week they were still screaming for blood from the 3 sane justices they assumed were the leakers. Now that it’s known Alito is a leaker….NOTHING BURGER. You infants are so transparent. To your ilk wrong is only wrong if the left does it.

A few dinners is what they CLAIMED, but not everything they did. It’s what he says he suggested (but that’s not believable one bit), not the limit of their involvement by far.
He admitted they hosted dinners for them regularly…including travel across the country and stays in massive estates as part of the “dinner”, and including their friends and families, and often and repeatedly hosted them on extravagant vacations to different continents, including extravagant first class hunting trips to South America, etc, (including first class travel for them and their families)…. and entered a Faustian deal where the court would make abortion illegal only if the evangelicals would support EVERYTHING ELSE in the far right agenda no matter how evil.

Hilarious that he claims he was trying to convince the court it had the people’s support to eradicate reproductive rights. That was a blatant lie from evangelicals, they were opposed by over 70% of the people, and utterly destroyed the legitimacy of the court in their political zeal to erode individual rights for Americans. (And many other ethical and moral failings)

This is the far right court selling a decision (and a legal right) for political gains…and you know they get kickbacks from the far right for that too.

You love wasting tax payer dollars. How many millions wasted on Trump’s fake illicit defense by an activist judge inserting herself in a federal case to protect him? How many hundreds of millions were wasted in Trump’s repeated election fraud investigations that found no fraud besides Republican frauds they ignored? How many billions wasted on Trump’s failed useless border fence that’s already crumbling into rivers and getting blown down in wind, and hasn’t slowed border crossings at all since they’ve increased since he built it? How much was wasted investigating BLM and ANTIFA….how much was wasted CREATING ANTIFA by labeling any protester ANTIFA unless they could prove they weren’t, in a ploy to create a boogie man for you to fear? Now you want to spend hundreds of millions investigating private citizens (Hunter, Clinton). You want to spend hundreds of millions investigating Fauchi. You don’t want to spend a dime investigating the highest court being bribed….unless you only target liberal justices then you’re 100% on board with any amount.
And exactly how many tax dollars have been spent on investigating this? Pretty certain it’s near zero. It’s just public knowledge now. Just said in congress under oath…that’s all.

Edit: I bet you have no problem with justices like Kavenaugh “partying” (getting drunk and raping women?) with Matt Gaetz, Stephen Miller, Erick Prince, Matt Schlapp, Sebastian Gorka, Sean Spicer, and others who have upcoming cases in front of his court, right? Just like it’s fine that Thomas didn’t recuse himself from cases directly involving his wife despite clear ethics rules requiring he do so….right? So much for “high ethical standards”….they have no standards. The right delegitimization the court started with denying Obama a nomination and is now complete.
And the Mark Meadows voter fraud case progresses. Sure he lived in a run down mobile home in the woods, he wasn’t lying to illegally register to vote in N Carolina…one of 3 places he registered. Lots of republicans committing vote fraud in N Carolina.

WOW that is influencing peddling at the highest level.

Good find at government wasting tax dollars on nothing .

Raccoons attacks little girl

luxintenebris says...

not judging but am more amazed than amused.

the poise of the woman to get her daughter into the house, while handling a rabid animal biting her - THEN stopping in mid-toss to warn a neighbor BEFORE she tossed it (not a bad toss either) - found it similar awe-inspiring.

not to say folks might not rib her for a few days afterward...

"jack's been looking for a bouncer, why not give him a call?"

"suddenly, around 7 AM every morning, we're having all sorts of small animals running by the house like they're afraid of something. isn't that the time you take your kid to school?"

"bet now when you tell your daughter to clean her room or your husband to pick up his socks - THEY LISTEN!"

"gonna call you the next time one of those missionaries stops by the house. would be worth money to see someone hammer-toss a mormon."

of course, she might be like...

The Amazon isn't "Burning" - It's Being Burned

diego says...

oh and just to add, take a wild guess where trump stands on this issue... bolsonaro has already announced they are in talks to start mining operations together in the amazon.

The US has been after the uranium in the amazon since the 60s, I have read brasilian govt reports from the time already accusing US mining companies of sending "missionaries" to hand out contraceptives and offer free sterilizations to indigenous people, with greedy stooges like bolsonaro and trump they will finally get what they want.

Missionaries Spread The Love

bcglorf says...

Did anyone ever confirm he actually ever was funded by a church or had any external benefactors to be cut off from? The articles I looked only ever listed him as claiming to be a missionary, but never did anyone specify it as confirmed nor list any claim to affiliation with any specific organisation.

This guy, got what he deserves being arrested for Assault.

BUT what about all the damage he's done to everything including slandering his own religion, racial relations, international relations and so on.

so much to say here, quitting before I rant - Have a nice day.

Edit: I hope he's sent home and de-funded by the church and benefactors who pay for his missionary work - In fact, I hope he's forced to pay back all the money he's received thus far.

King David

Mordhaus says...

Funny, but flawed it's own way.

Let me preface this commentary by saying I am not in any organized religion. I go back and forth in believing in God and also not being able to find proof he exists, basically an agnostic theist. So this is not in any way an attempt to 'prove' anything other than that I disagree with the way the video is portraying the biblical tale. I also know there are far more egregious examples than this story of God as an uncaring, flawed being with an uncertain temperament.

First, this story is one of the 'go to' stories that most atheists or anti-religion people look to for a clear example of the 'wrongness' of the bible or God. The reason is, if you don't take anything else into context, this story is massively damning! What god would call for a mass genocide out of the blue, right? Certainly not one people consider to be good!

But, if we look at the context of the bible in the Old Testament, we see that this is not wholly out of line for the character shown of God. If we take the statements of the bible as literal, then God has already shown he will destroy any threat to those he considers his 'chosen people'; even those who are/were part of that group.

In this case, the Amalekites were descendants of Esau. Esau was the brother of Jacob (later named Israel) and was supposed to inherit the blessing of his father, as well as command over the 'chosen people' of God. Esau was of rough nature and was a hunter. Once he was starving and went to Jacob, who tended the fields (sort of the Cain and Abel bit all over again), begging him for a bowl of lentil soup. Jacob told him that he would give him the bowl if Esau would pass his birthright (blessing and command) over to Jacob, since obviously Jacob was more able to care for his people than a solitary hunter. Esau agreed, but never really meant it, he was just hungry and was willing to say whatever he needed to so as to get that soup.

Jacob was dead serious though, so he took the birthright and became Israel, the leader of God's chosen. Esau was livid and swore to murder Jacob, who fled. Esau never got the birthright back, but he did sire the people who became the Amalekites, who in turn swore vengeance on Israel-ites.

This becomes important as time goes on, because basically every single time the groups encountered one another, the Israelites tried to be peaceful but the Amalekites always attacked.

By the time Saul was king, God chose to have him go and destroy the Amalekites, deeming them beyond saving. As he had told Moses during the first Amalekite attacks, he had Samuel tell Saul to blot their memory from history, wiping them out completely. Saul chose not to do this, sparing their king and some animals. Because of this, God replaced Saul with David.

So, now we come to the main part of the discussion. Like I said, this story is used quite often to show the capricious nature of God. However, like I said, it uses the story out of context. Now that we have the 'historical' description of the origin and ongoing nature of the conflict, we can put it into context.

If you are going to dissect the nature of 'God' as shown in the Old Testament, you have to look at the information given to show that nature. The bible says he is all-knowing, but it also says that he gave mankind free will. If you look on God as more of a creature running a simulation, he hopes that humanity will come to follow his rules of their own accord, even though he knows many will not. He chooses Israel and his descendants to be his 'messengers' to the other people that have chosen not to follow his rules, basically they are his missionaries that he hopes will lead his simulation to the proper conclusion.

Any group or race that tries to eradicate his messengers is a threat to his simulation, so he eventually will deal with them harshly. Sodom and Gomorrah, The Great Flood, and other examples of God deciding that he needs to protect his 'messengers' and clear off the playing board. In the case of the Amalekites, by this time period mentioned in the story, we are talking about generations of them trying to destroy the Israelites. So, God tells Samuel to tell Saul that they must be wiped from the playing board. Saul exercises his free will, therefore David enters the picture.

If you look at free will and God's choice of his messengers, as well as his protection of them, you get this story situation. By telling Saul to wipe them out, God is saying that he has tried to look the other way, but the Amalekites will never stop as long as they exist. Therefore they must be dealt with in a manner that will prevent them from rising as a people in the future and attempting harm to his messengers again.

It still doesn't paint God in a perfect light, but makes him more of a tinkerer. He keeps creating flawed inventions that choose to follow their own path and not his. The sad thing is, if you assume that he is all knowing, he knows this is going to be the end result. He creates angels and they turn on him. He creates humans and they turn on him. Then he creates Jesus, a combination of god and human, who doesn't turn on him. It is almost like he decides to create a Hero unit that can show the other simulations an easier path to winning.

Realistically and analytically, I know it doesn't make perfect sense. That is why I have my struggles with wanting to believe and then not being able to logically. If you choose to look at God as being a flawed creature (again, assuming that you believe he exists), the whole thing sort of makes more sense. In any case, we all have our own opinions and beliefs. I hope that my wordy post has explained how I try to work through mine.
