I didn't know there was a strict definition. I asked a question and pondered some answers. Oh no! There world is ending. Why do you have to be a continual callow fool about such things? You'll note I didn't jump to google (like others do) to quickly look up a definition (I chose not to). I don't like using google as a false extension of my knowledge like others do. I like to have a good discussion using only the knowledge I have at that instant. But instead we all have to suffer people like you who jump in keyboard blazing "you're wrong on a thing and therefore you're an inferior fucktard who doesn't deserve to be here" instead of going "Actually, there is a strict definition of assault rifle. It's defined as...". Do you see the difference? I hate to be the one to tell you, but you need to learn to control your emotions. As an adult you should have learned this by now. You may believe you are communicating effectively but you are not. You are abrasive and abusive to anyone and everyone on far to regular a basis. You should be ashamed of yourself but I doubt you have the introspection to see your flaws.

The most irritating thing about having to point this out is that, now with strict definition in hand (provided by you), I can point out that instead of you telling Digitalfiend there is a strict definition and that "assault rifles" are already heavily restricted (as you should have pointed out), that I have to point it out to him instead.

And yes, I was already familiar with the studies I quoted previously - I have previously researched the topic of gun control in Australia.

Please stop making things up. The second you see what you consider a mistake you jump in with bullshit like this thinking you are going in for the kill. You're laughable and you're making life hard for yourself.

Shotguns aren't rifles? No shit Sherlock. It was an example of where semi-automatic is better. Semi-automatics are better than pump guns. You're dreaming if you think they're even in the same league. Duck hunting is better with a semi-automatic.

The only person who said anything about "Indiscriminately pumping animals, even nuisance animals full of lead" is you. I don't know where you learned to hunt but I learned one shot one kill. And a semi-automatic makes this more efficient (and if you do need a backup shot it comes very quickly). Most pest animals are left to rot. It's too much trouble picking up the carcasses (and often legislated that you must leave them where they drop). If you don't know how to hunt then leave it to the people who do, please (it's so easy to turn your words around).

Trapping, baiting, etc. are others methods that work well in varying circumstances.

Choosing a pump gun over a semi-auto is a beginners mistake. The spread of buckshot or home defense rounds at close quarters is fairly low and you must always aim your firearm properly. In a home defense situation, anyone who is relying on the spread of shotgun pellets to hit their target is a terrible marksman and should consider getting some lessons. You get the same loading sound from a semi-automatic when you let the bolt go forward. I don't know of any data to support the notion that the loading sound scares people away. It has some merit though.

Now, as usual for me I'll be busy for the next 4 months (back at work this morning - I shouldn't even be replying to this but I thought - "hey, I've gotta throw a dog a bone"). I may or may not get to reply to the expected vehemence to come. Have fun howling at the wind. Interesting to watch. But... The pre-battle zoom showed them carrying M1A1 submachine gun which has an ammo capacity of 20 or 30 per clip. Even if each marine is a sharpshooter marksman with 1 kill per bullet, that's 9000 total rounds for the entire battalion for the first clip. Assuming that each marine carries 2-3 extra clips, you get a maximum of 27k rounds at best. True winner based on numbers, Romans.

I don't want to shoot up anyone (unless they're zombies obviously). But I would still like to train myself to be a marksman. Nothing wrong with learning things, helps fend off brain diseases in the future.

This is scarier than just some crazy vendetta cop-This guy has had all manner of special training in tactics, scenario, etc. as a Lt. M.P. in the Navy-He's a marksman, both handgun and rifle with handgun expert classification. He's had a few years to plan this, and he's got the cops in a few states, scared shit less. Almost as scary as a Glock-knock-off made in Beijing!

1. The 2nd Amendment calls for a WELL REGULATED MILITIA. Emphasis on WELL REGULATED. The majority of Americans are in favor of at least some form of gun control. The idea is to get the most dangerous weapons we have out there out of the hands of those most likely to misuse/abuse them. And personally, I think accountability should be factored in. Gun owners should be required to have background checks, inspections of homes with required gun safes, ammunition limits, mandatory certification in gun safety courses, with regular testing, marksman training, and insurance to cover any damage done by weapons they own. And honestly, I wouldn't mind if people were required to join their State Militia or National Guard in order to own more than a hunting rifle.

2. The Constitution was never intended to be sacrosanct. It's a living, breathing work in progress. Hell, the ink was barely dry before the Bill of Rights was introduced. We "amend" the Constitution as needed to address issues that were never foreseen by our forefathers.

Oh please tell me that no one actually believes that one round alone from that rifle could cause those explosions.
Possibly an incendiary round could trigger an explosion if a bomb was already in the crapper and in the truck.
But more likely they were just blown up by someone off camera.
Nice rifle and he appears to be a great marksman but it's mostly hype.

I'm also wondering how this can be real because the 50cal rounds are very rarely used in rifles. Though I may be incorrect in this sense, I have never seen an old-fashion-designed and styled 50cal bolt-action rifle like the one this guy has. There are 2 50 cal sniper rifles that I know of... the Barrett M82A1 rifle is one I learned of some time ago to be an anti-device rifle, used for picking off devices from long range. The other is popularized by various video games like BF2, CoD4, MW2, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 -- the M95.

To add also into the doubting mix is the fact that a youngster like him would be holding a weapon that can FIRE a 50cal round. I won't be surprised by people holding something that can fire NATO rounds. But a rifle that fires a 50cal? Sorry, my expectations for those capable of firing a 50cal round from a rifle is someone in uniform and one who has had years of marksman training.

I saw this on Live Leak, the consensus there was that this was the work of a rubber bullet to the head. Which have been known to cause massive trauma.

If that was a .223 full metal jacket I'm surprised to see so much trauma. Given other pictures of similar trauma, on the internet, it would appear that a .223 would not cause the brain to flop out on the concrete like that. It seems like a rubber slug or something to that extent. Of course we don't have sufficient proof, but we can formulate a good hypothesis.

If it were a sniper, there would have been much, much more damage. I mean like his head would have popped in a red mist and his body would have slumped directly to the ground, not as if it were being knocked over. I get the feeling that if it were a lethal round then it wasn't a sniper but regular infantry; who is a good marksman. The circumstances just don't lead me to think it was.

I love the story of how on the first day of photography with this pig they had a marksman on hand to shoot it down in case it broke free of its moorings. In the end they decided to do a second day of photos but forgot to call the marksman back; the pig broke free and floated into commercial flight paths and all the flights out of Heathrow had to be cancelled.

The pig drifted out over the English Channel but was eventually recovered for another day of photos, eventually leading to the cover of the 'Animals' album, which includes 'Pigs (Three Different Ones)'.

That part about calling snipers sharpshooters reminds me of a scene from the 1971 (but still relevant today) film Punishment Park:
