Sharpest Chocolate Kitchen Knife In The World

Here's What It's Like To Drive A Formula 1 Car!

SeesThruYou says...

This is all very cool and informative, but knowing what it's really like to drive an F1 car is not something you can experience through any form of media, no matter how in-depth it might be. You can talk about it, make videos, even simulate it in VR, but unless you actually DO it, you'll never really know.

Top 10 things I hate about youtube (Blog Entry by jwray)

SortingHat says...

I am glad authors can't censor as YouTube is doing it enough making videos that expose the truth of our government and Islam *vanish* so people will only see the positive side.

Now my biggest complaint is PLAYLISTS!!!! USE GODDAMN PLAYLISTS PEOPLE!

I and MANY OTHERS are NOT going to shift thru 200 videos just for a particular one that has a weird name that won't show up on search.

Many videos now are abbreviated in weird ways so you HAVE to hunt for it or they won't show up on a general search because the search engines now use WATSON AI to guess.

Sorry but it's true. Older videos generally have playlists so I can always tell when it's a pre G+ account that's up by how organized it is.

Authors like Gilva Sunner who uploades 1,000 plus video game soundtracks has it all in organized playlists.

A new channel if any were to come up would have those songs randomly scattered.

Sorry but we are not shifting thru 1 million videos and neither should you.

If you wonder why you are not getting a lot of views perhaps that's a good damn reason!

The New Wave of YouTube "Skeptics"

Imagoamin says...

Then you haven't encountered any of his fans on twitter.

And he is pretty much the largest and most 1:1 example the above video is referencing: He uses specious arguments, focuses on minor details or extreme examples to paint with a massive brush, and generally is more vitriol than skepticism.

And the difference between Sarkeesian making videos critiquing and thunderf00t is myriad: Sarkeesian focuses on depictions and media, thunderf00t focuses on indviduals and a very amorphous idea of "feminism" with videos like "Why feminism is poisoning atheism", "Why 'feminism' poisons EVERYTHING", all pretty much completely obsessed with Sarkeesian and Rebecca Watson.

That's not skepticism.. that's a creepy personal vendetta.

The other major difference are their fans. I don't recall Sarkeesian ever taking out a personal vendetta against a random person and suggesting her fans bombard their business on Yelp with bad reviews and then people on the doxxing boards of 8chan joined in the online attacks.

I mean, it's not quite as simple as "one person makes videos critiquing, another makes videos critiquing". But I feel like you probably already knew that.

Why look for that excuse? I think the word you are looking for is 'validation'. I think it's really human nature that compels us to search out those who we see as being like us and helps to reaffirm our beliefs. Fox News became a media empire based almost entirely on this principle and ever since then many other media outlets have followed suit.

@Imagoamin
I read that article a little while back, but I'm not sure taking away Patreon or ad money would silence those people. I'm pretty sure many like thunderf00t would just keep on doing what they're doing anyhow. I've watched some of thunderf00t's videos and while they may not use the most genteel language or may come off as snarky but it never sounded like harassment to me.

YouTube, and the internet in general are a soapbox which people like Anita Sarkeesian can use to criticize popular media and can also be used by others to criticize Sarkeesian in turn, this is perfectly fair in my opinion.

Why the Concorde Failed

Another small factor that they seemed to miss on here was skype. The ability to make video-conference calls probably eased the need of business executives to be there in person.

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

eric3579 says...

Not sure if this been brought up yet.

Tags
I don't see them and the ability to change them. Not all sifts are tagged properly or well enough to, i assume, make videos easily found when searching for them. Also I often click on tags as a search mechanism.

VideoSift v6 (VS6) Beta Video Page (Sift Talk Post)

blahpook says...

Ooooooh fancy.

The What to Post sub-tab (?) doesn't work for me, and when I click the FAQ sub-tab, I can't seem to click back to anything else on About.

I like the format though. Think it makes videos more widely shareable.

10 Hours of Walking in NYC as a Woman

dannym3141 says...

Harassment is a bad thing, but I feel very sorry for anyone that does not engage in general pleasantness, and finds phrases like "how are you?" and "nice day!" to be a form of harassment. Worst still, to chastise and publicly present them as harassers on youtube .. what sort of lowlife do you have to be to do that? I don't care how many actual harassers you caught, that is not an acceptable method so put the net away and get the fishing rod out.

I say things like hello, nice day.. And if i'm in a queue and i think of something to say that i think someone might find funny or help someone out, i'll say it. I don't expect a reply, but if there's a fun person around then it might pass the time better. I asked someone of the female persuasion at my pool the other week if they were looking for the sauna (slightly hidden away) because i heard her talking to what i assume was her husband about the sauna. I do that for old men, old ladies, fat blokes, skinny women; all sorts.. i offer men and women help out of the jacuzzi if they need it. Her reaction was to say "No..... WHY?" very pointedly.

Well you know what? Fuck her - i did something nice and now she's the one that's being rude to others. I cannot fucking stand the high and mighty attitude of these people, as though they have never been guilty of accidentally doing something other people didn't want them to do. As though they have an inbuilt capability to read the motive of other people. Obviously i offered to explain the location of the sauna because i wanted to have sex with her in it (yeah, sex in a disgusting public sweat box & burnt genitals, my favourite), god forbid someone actually be nice to someone else. I felt like being rude back, but that'd make me worse than her.

There is a very fine line between being an activist against harassment, and being an unhinged arsehole who goes around over reacting and getting the wrong end of the stick and hurting people who were showing genuine honesty. I'm so sorry if you've been harassed in the past, but you don't see victims of domestic abuse blaming everyone that looks/talks at them funny in the street for all the pain they've suffered - which is substantially more painful and personality-warping than the average activist blogger jumping on the "trigger-warning" bangwagon.

Harassment exists and this blanket of "harassment" that these videos engender for all sorts of shit is distracting us from that issue, and to some degree turning people against the issue..... I mean, if i get unfairly treated like a scumbag for years by "mostly" women who assume i'm harassing them, do i get license to make videos about it and complain about women as a whole, judging every action of every woman to be one of harassment because of my own insecurities? That's why these kind of videos are so poorly received @EMPIRE.. the majority of the content is the videographer sneering at people for being pleasant and exchanging niceties, why should people laud that kind of behaviour? I expect that behaviour to be discouraged by women as well and i'd forgive them for taking more notice of the fewer examples of harassment than i did, because opinions are a bit selfish by nature.

And i didn't even question the validity of the supporting cast..... I'm sure Rob Bliss (OF ROB BLISS CREATIVE DOT COM EVERYBODY FAVOURITE AND LIKE PLS) would have no desire to help make this video more interesting! I quote his own philosophy here from his website, he believes in "giving people the content that they want." Interestingly worded remit... Why does no one ever question the source if it's a "reality" video? The guy practically states in his "approach" section that he aims to pander to people, he doesn't want to challenge viewer opinion...

Walloftext, sorry, but i don't like the sentiment of this video, and i will not let people in the comments tell me that i am a bad person for doing so - these are my reasons.

Hand in Hot Ice

darkrowan says...

His earlier videos were rougher. Nurd does it due to wanting to keep his anonymity, and protect his friends and family from undue attention his videos may cause them.

And given all of his fans practically wet themselves here recently when he began making videos again (after being gone for a year and a half), I fully understand the worry.

Video Games: The Movie (Official Trailer!)

Huckabee is Not a Homophobe, but...

ChaosEngine says...

So just to be clear, if an artist is homophobic, that's ok?

How about sexist? If I hire a photographer for a corporate event to celebrate the hiring of a new female CEO, it's cool for them to say "nah, I think women should be home raising kids"?

How about racist? How about discriminating on religious grounds? How about just ugly people? "I would shoot your wedding, but frankly, you're both just hideous and let's face it you don't need photos reminding you of that"

Fuck that.

The difference between the real situation of someone being discriminated on sexual orientation and @Darkhand's ridiculously contrived example of being forced to write a song about hating cats is that hating cats is perfectly socially and legally acceptable. Discriminating against people based on ethnicity, gender or orientation is not.

If you "take photos, make videos, design clothes" you're not an artist, you're a business. Your business happens to include art but you're already "whoring" yourself by offering your services for money. And the price of doing business is that you agree to abide by laws, one of which says that you cannot discriminate based on certain attributes.

OTOH, if you're a landscape artist who's commissioned by an oil company and you want to say "nope, I am not ethically comfortable with you" then yes, you have the right to refuse.

enoch said:

why is @Darkhand 's comment so hard to comprehend?
i would even take it a step further, because i have done it,and point the customer to another venue who would better serve them.

no muss.
no fuss.
and nobodies wittle feewings got hurt.

now if we take @Hanover_Phist 's analogy.
well thats a whole different animal.thats about integrity.
if i have committed myself to a venue,i honor my promises.if something about that venue bothers me then i better suck it up and maybe next time pay closer attention to who i was dealing with at the time of contract negotiations (been there as well).

so the disagreement between darkhand and hanover are really semantics and not relevant to each other.

and @VoodooV ,you are confusing 'artist" with "whore"....difference.

though there is no shortage of "artists" who "whore" themselves, but im gonna guess that darkhand is not one of those artists.

come to think of it,i can see how that can be confusing looking at the current state of art in regards to pop culture....

fuck me im getting old...and cranky.

dont judge me!
and get off my lawn!

Huckabee is Not a Homophobe, but...

Darkhand says...

This is probably the only time I'll ever agree with Mike Hucabee.

Gay people should not be turned away from like a best buy, applebees, whatever. But people who take photos, make videos, design clothes, they should be allowed to say I can't do this for you because my heart would not be in it.

Gay Hugs - An Experiment With Homophobes

chingalera says...

Yeah, couldn't stand it. Poorly produced, inadequately rendered and 6 'gay' women who don't care to give their names in the production credits (paranoia?).

Guess I could go check out their gay women channel and see if they have any actual talent for making videos, like many lesbians (and people in general), there's an inordinate amount of gay folks that are hard to stand to be around for too long, and it has nothing to do with their sexuality or any phobias. More to do with their character and strength of will. A mixed-bag of personality disorders tend to remind me how fucked-up the world is becoming and I'm not a mental health professional. My empathy and sympathy stores go part and parcel with the energy allotment for my own well-being and sanity.
