Scorn

entr0py says...

While I love it when developers have the courage and funding to do something bold and different artistically, I imagine I wouldn't feel better after playing that.

I get the appeal of more typical horror; being afraid is thrilling and can feel liberating when you know you're actually safe. But the feeling I get from this is not that it's scary but more along the lines of "wow, look at those suffering freaks suffer with no end in sight". It's like spending a few hours looking at the most disturbing pictures of birth defects and leprosy you can find, without the possible benefit of empathizing with a real experience that other people could have.

I'm not trying to denigrate people who like it, I'm just baffled. Can anyone explain the appeal to me?

Man of Steel - Trailer 2

Sagemind says...

Okay,

Weaknesses
1). His love of humanity - Absolutely
2). Lois Lane (and Jonathan & Martha Kent)
3). Kryptonite - Proven Absolutely
4). Red Sun or Starless worlds would void his powers but first you have to make him go there.
5). Magic - Can slow him down, but can't kill him
6). Virus X - Kryptonian leprosy, the only form of disease for which Kryptonians had not found a cure (Turns out Blue Kryptonite is the cure)
7). Mind Control - He has no powers against mind control but he is a strong minded individual and has battled this and won before.
8 ). Extreme amounts of force/impact ("Darkseid and a few others have this power").
9). No air/Food/water - Superman could survive indefinitely without food, water, or rest due to the yellow sun's radiation sustaining him.

Shazam - Almost killed Superman with his lightning bolts which are magic
Lex Luthor used a magical artifact called the Powerstone to take his powers away.
Wonder Woman's magic sword can cut him.
Hulk kicked his ass once too but wasn't able to follow through.

Looks like his next major weakness after Kryptonite is Magic. Not all magic though. Only some magic granted by Gods, and then only some gods has the power to affect him. Magic has been able to lay him out but has never stopped him.

Check this forum where they clearly argue it out:

Rape and Retards: Doug Stanhope talks Daniel Tosh

God's tainted love

hpqp says...

transcript:

Dear Benny, hi, how are ya? Love the hat by the way.

You may not have noticed but I've been absent for awhile,
I wanted to tell you why and how I've been finding my own style.
A new way of looking at the world beyond the errors of the past.
You see I've read all of your teachings and cant see how they'll last.
Where angels feared to tread has now become the beaten track
but for every step that we took forward, the church took two steps back.

It took you four hundred years just to pardon Galileo,
while the murderer of Hypatia still enjoys his saintly halo.
It was these hypocrisies of the church, that drove me from the flock
though I still clung to the ideas and kept some belief in stock
that Jesus really loved me and god was close at hand
and the day was fast approaching when we'd find the promised land.

When people could stand together and colour wouldn't mean a thing
but i slowly began to realise, thats not the message that god brings.
He constantly plays favourites setting nations against each other
tearing apart families, pitting brother against brother.
The jew and the gentile, the muslim and infidel,
the terrorist gaining heaven while their victims go to hell.

This god isn't worth my worship or the thanks that he demands,
and things have gotten so much better now the powers in our own hands.
Life expectancy has tripled, smallpox has been made extinct.
Our eyes pierced the veil of heaven and what was hazy is now distinct.
A cacophony of symphonies all composed in mathematics,
a ballet of matter and energy performing cosmic acrobatics.

Why didn't your book tell me I was born of a supernova.
Instead demanding belief in what an ancient madman told ya.
Houses can't catch leprosy, epilepsy's not possession
and when it comes to sex what the fucks with your obsession
with what grown men and women do in the privacy of their own home.
Why do you care where they put it? You've got problems of your own.

You let suffer the little children while the paedophiles protected,
the people wanted a shepard but its a wolf that was elected.
You spread disease and misery with every denial of tested science
so people remain upon their knees out of terror and compliance
so please excuse my harshness after breaking religions spell,
and if by chance your god is real, I'll save you a seat in hell.

"Illegal Immigration" is a scapegoat

quantumushroom says...

"Open borders" is one of the dumber schizophrenic ideas espoused by libertarianism, which in turn is its own wortst enemy.

Holier-than-thou libertarianism demands that no human infringe on the rights and property of another human. But we have a welfare state, like it or not, and it attracts the parasitic from other countries while indulging too many of our own homegrown slobs.

We legal citizens pay into our flawed system for entitlements; illegals do not. The bulk of the money illegals make here gets sent back to Mexico. Illegals drain the government school system (which should be scrapped, but that's another post), they burden the criminal justice system, they bankrupt hospitals and are spreading once-under-control diseases like leprosy. Cull the cited number of 25 Americans killed daily by illegals' crimes and driving to 10. Is that acceptable?

Racism? Whom invades whose country and then refuses to assmilate?

Mexicans do not have any 'right' to America's bounty, nor any other countries' wealth or resources, without just compensation. We should be fining the Mexican thugverment a barrel of oil per day for every illegal here.

As evil as government gets, it is not always the root cause. There are real external threats in the world. In days of yore, people tolerated the reigns of foolish or cruel monarchs in exchange for keeping barbarians outside the gate.

Without common borders, language and culture a nation is doomed.

Research how Mexico defends its southern border. That's diversity worth celebrating.

from wiki:

Leprosy (from the Greek lepid, meaning scales on a fish), or Hansen's disease, is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium leprae.[1] Leprosy is primarily a granulomatous disease of the peripheral nerves and mucosa of the upper respiratory tract; skin lesions are the primary external symptom.
