secondclancy-the new face of social justice warriors
So, clapping is wrong and offensive? Er... What do you do if one of your group members turns out to have had a traumatic experience while attending a Jazz concert? What then? I only ask because in theory we could go on and on like this until Jesus comes back. Oh sorry, do religious references offend you?
Sorry about that, oh and sorry for being white, and sorry for being male and identifying with the gender I was born with (with the occasional kink here and there). If I keep this up people might think I'm Canadian, oh, wait, that was probably insensitive to Canadians, sorry about that too.
one of the many faces of racism in america
yeah..i am with @VoodooV on this one.
the man was not working.
was not wearing any company logos or identification, yet loses his job.
for what?
being an insensitive racist idiot?
public shaming?
all for it,and it might even change a few hearts and minds.inject a little empathy in an otherwise rigid and narrow worldview.
losing his job?
eeeeeeh..i think some people are taking the social warrior thing a tad too far,and are not being far sighted in their execution.
sure..we can hate on this racist asshole and ridicule him for his idiocy, but what happens when the PC police find something that YOU do offensive or inappropriate?
would you still be as confident in losing your livelihood?
i have been following this case in canada where this graphic designer is facing 6 months in jail for criticizing and disagreeing with two feminists.these women are trying to make the case that his criticisms,in the form of tweets, constitutes harrassment.
he lost his job.
is 80k in the hole, and the case has been ongoing for three years.
so there is already a frightening amount of this PC police, social warrior fascism having actually consequences.
so where do we draw the line?
who is going to arbitrarily monitor that line?
who decides what is offensive and what is not?
you start going down this road and that line will become more and more blurred until the first amendment is toast.
i am finding it more and more disturbing that people are beginning to think that being offended somehow equates to a right.that their little world, their minute and tiny habitat should be protected from offensive language.
unless you are ok with destroying peoples lives for being an idiot or an asshole.
social warriors:morality police concerned with their own little habitat, but they have your best interest as well.
oh goodie....
tofucken-the vegan response to turducken
Still not as hilarious as the Tofu Bay Jesus a friend I've heard some people make for Christmas. Vegan _and_ insensitive to mainstream religious mythology.
Real Time with Bill Maher: Ann Coulter on Immigration
...O_o? ..did you.. take some shrooms?
Smoke some pot? Pop a molly?
What's up with all these level-headed, non-bigoted remarks you're making all of a sudden.
There's absolutely no way you can be this coherent NOW and not have been completely aware of the egregious insensitive comments you've made in the past.
I swear to FSM that you're a grade A+ troll.
Now, I'm almost certain that @lantern53 is your smurf account.
And you've just been fuckin' with us for the past decade.
Wtf gives? @_@
Both side are right to a point both sides are wrong to a point.
Police have no CONSTITUTIONAL DUTY to protect YOU!
Here we go with generalizations again.
Let's completely forget the Air Traffic Controller comparison because it's just plain stupid.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_killings_by_law_enforcement_officers_in_the_United_States
Secondly, you've confirmed that cops can and will lie whenever they need to.
The number of "justifiable homicides" is skewed because cops will lie and plant evidence.
e.g. Walter Scott video shows the cop planting his tazer.
(well at least three cops- your buddy, you and slager)
We'll never truly know how many cases like this are covered-up.
So we'll never know how many victims truly "had it coming".
Thirdly, there's a complete difference between a "slip & catch error"..
And "accidentally" choking Eric Garner to death..
Or "accidentally" severing Freddie Grey's spine..
Or "accidentally" shooting Akai Gurley to death in a darkened stairwell that you were NEVER supposed to be in the fucking first place..
Those were NOT "mistakes", they were pure negligence and incompetence.. Full Stop.
Those "occasions" weren't few and far between.. they're monthly, weekly, if not DAILY occurrences.
If you don't like when society labels all LEOs as Bad Cops..
Stop making generalization, Lantern.
Because if anyone on here said:
"the vast major of police & soldiers who get killed had it coming"
You would flip your shit.
Seriously, I'm trying to be civil with you now.
But you keep saying crazy insensitive sociopathic shit.
cops occasionally make mistakes which cost lives, so do air traffic controllers
but the vast majority of people who are killed by cops brought it right on themselves
if you'd like, I would be happy to post example after example
White Party - A Lesson in Cultural Appropriation
See, another example of some "i-can't-possibly-racial-insensitive-whatsoever-because-THIS-guy-agrees-with-completely-sheltered-rose-tinted-worldview" - *deep breath* - Bullshit!
[phew, these polite euphemisms for "racist" are getting out of hand now]
Unfortunately, the term "culture appropriation" is a misnomer.
The term coined should be Cultural MISappropriation and refers to shit like Blackface.
Something this was trendy, open mockery. Also, fairly lucrative.
This White Party video is a highly significant point of discussion and is important satire for all white folks to think about & discuss because..
THIS IS EXACTLY HOW MOST COLORED PEOPLE FEEL.
[I would know, cause this is exactly how i feel]
So yeah..
Tactless, suggestively snarky comments, with a Token to parrot and espouse believes that confirm your bias.. -_-
Is simply "mild" racism in action.
It's Denialism. It's Victim-blaming.
"Stop complaining. We're all equal see. Can't we all just learn spanish & twerk our butts, as one."
And let Americans sweep all that other extremely racist shit under the rug for another 150 years?!
Fuck no.
A much better video on the same topic.
D.J. Demers Stand-Up 12/01/14 - CONAN on TBS
Fuck hearing aids guy, I'm the insensitive, mildly aggressive asshole guy.
If Asian Women Hit On White Guys the Way White Guys Hit On..
NOT "conspiracy" - the microaggression projects started nationwide by college students are attempts to draw attention to the kinds of questions and encounters they experience on a daily basis in order to make others aware of their shared humanity. So yes, they would agree that a lot of the statements they draw attention to are tactless and insensitive. That's the whole point.
I've always been a bit leery of the term "Microaggressions" it takes a lot of stuff that I might call insensitive or tactless and tries to make it into a conspiracy or something.

"sexist and racist microaggressions that are normalized in our society as “flirting.”"
Seriously?
Bouncing Baby In The Snow
not to sound insensitive, but that is one FUGLY baby.
TYT - Israel's devastation of Gaza
My question is, if Canada or Mexico were being controlled by terrorists and were firing rockets into our country and killing people, how long do you think it would take for the national outrage to develop and a ground campaign sent out to utterly destroy the capability of the enemy to hurt us any longer? I don't see us putting up with it, or any other country for that matter. Yet, for some reason there is a double standard with Israel that people think they should put up with it.
That said, I would agree that Israel has a lot to answer for as far as civilian deaths; there is a lot of racism and insensitivity and brutality. America isn't any better.. We dropped two atomic bombs on Japan to destroy their war machine and killed over 250k people. Iraq probably had quite a few more, yet we are lecturing to Israel to stop trying to remove the terrorists who live in their back yard. We would never stand for it so why are we telling Israel that they should. I am against war and I think Israel has crossed the line many times but I still recognize that countries are asking them to do something they themselves would never do.
Living with Lag - An Oculus Rift experiment
"You wouldn't accept lag offline, so why do it online?"
Because I live in the United States of God-damn America, and I already pay $90 a month for 340Kpbs! Insensitive fucks.
GIVE ME AN ALTERNATIVE TO THIS MONOPOLY!
Stephen Colbert's Top Ten List - David Letterman
Colbert is awesome because he gets to be in character and do ridiculous things like run for president or just be an insensitive megalomaniac.
I have no doubt that he will be good once he takes over for Letterman, but I cringe to think about him having to make smalltalk about someone's new action movie.
Clown Panties
Anyone else besides @chingalera picking up a strong misandry vibe in Schumer's comedy? So much of her "comedy" has a "feminist" orientation that seems to do little more than put men down as being merely insensitive, dumb, hypersexual, and dishonest douchebags with no redeeming qualities.
Colbert responds to #CancelColbert
Suey Park aside (she acts crazy), I personally believe many of you would be well served by thinking about this situation more critically before you jump on the defend Colbert bandwagon. Colbert is a funny satirist, but is not without flaw, and in my mind this bit on his show was at best a shitty joke and at worst completely unnecessarily racially insensitive (i.e. even as satire, it did not serve his point well). An article here talks about it in a more articulate way than I probably can:
http://www.blackgirldangerous.org/2014/04/colbert-white-racial-satire-dont-need/
This is somewhat tangential (I'll tie things together later), but based on my readings it seems Chappelle may have grappled with whether some of his skits were having net positive social impact, especially near the tail end of the show's run. From Chappelle's wikipedia entry (way more context there) --- "Chappelle said that he felt some of his sketches were "socially irresponsible." ... "According to Chappelle, during the filming of the sketch, a white crew member was laughing in a way that made him feel uncomfortable and made him think. Chappelle said, "It was the first time I felt that someone was not laughing with me but laughing at me."
--- For me, coming from somebody like Chappelle, that's pretty heavy stuff. if Dave Chappelle -- IMO quite brilliant both comedically and otherwise, and has personal experience being an oppressed minority -- struggles with what makes good socially responsible satire, that probably means it's hard. Really hard. Yet there are many people far less qualified than Chappelle in the area of satire creation and firsthand experience of racial oppression using "Colbert is satire, don't you know what [good, socially responsible] satire is?" (I'll answer that rhetorical -- No I don't, nor do probably most people) as a bit of a rubber stamp for Colbert being totally justified in doing this bit.
In my opinion, if there were ever a time for Stephen to totally break character for a second and just say "I'm sorry. Satire can be very difficult at times and we make mistakes. This was one of them. We've got to try harder.", now would be the time. As Chappelle pointed out, some people could be comfortable in laughing for the wrong reasons and not realizing it ... those people need a bit of a reality check. As the person everybody is rushing to protect, Colbert would be the best one to deliver it. In doing so, this could even more powerfully (than his satire) make people come around to the idea that racism is not just a switch you can turn off and be done with it (a la Stephen Colbert the *character*), it's a constant maintenance process like brushing one's teeth ( a la Jay Smooth -- Great talk here by Jay on just this topic ). "Wait.... even Stephen Colbert (the person) satirist master extraordinaire needs to think about race issues!? Hmmmmmmm..."
