Shogun - Trailer

newtboy says...

Considering its glowing reception so far, it would be a surprise if they don’t try to find a way to extend it. It’s a rare successful idea that isn’t repeated to death by Hollywood…this is already the second time around for this story (and it sounds like it’s much better than the first from what I’ve read).
It would be a shame to change countries…it’s a fictionalized but semi-historical drama, so the story can continue for centuries with barely any plot writing required, just dialog.

It's a miniseries according to IMDB. Maybe they will spin off with another country or something like China.

WONKA (2023 Movie) Trailer | Timothée Chalamet, Hugh Grant

cloudballoon says...

It's Hollywood using the excuse that it's "introducing a classic for this generation" some such BS.

Roald Dahl’s works are being rewritten to rid of age-old stereotype/racism/sexism/imperialism/whatever-ism fit for this political cycle because there are THAT many stupid people who can't see an old work in old lens.

Why?
Who asked for this?

Can Hollywood either write or at least read some new stories, for adults, and not keep rehashing or prequelling classics…please? There’s plenty of excellent, unique books out there to draw from, and tons of history that seems more fantastical than the silliest fiction. Read some mythology, or old school fairy tales. Ancient religions are more interesting, action packed, gory, and full of unexpected twists than the best action movie ever…and done well you could teach people while entertaining them.
This looks like a bastardization of every feel good sugar sweet musical period piece in the last 20+ years. Not gonna downvote, but no thanks.

This would make a good movie.. You could name it something like Red October and get a Scottish guy to play the Russian captain so everyone would be able to empathize with how noble he is.

Oof. The Access Hollywood tape and his other victims CAN testify in Trump’s sexual assault case. He’s going to lose.

He’s also filed his defense in the Stormy Daniels case….he’s just going to deny it happened and claim he paid her for absolutely no reason (unlike many other public accusers that he didn’t pay). He’s also going to blame his lawyers, claiming he had nothing to do with the payoffs despite the undeniable proof he did and exactly how they tried to hide it.

He, and his parking lot lawyer, don’t seem to even understand the charges….that he lied about the payments and filed campaign finance documents where he lied about them under oath, making it a felony. They have offered no defense for that…the actual charges.

He’s going to lose the $250 million case in NY too, and he doesn’t have it.

Diaper Don is going to prison (unless he flees to Belarus like so many other maggots). Your sad little cult is rapidly becoming a jail house cult. Ultra Maga extremists can’t decide which crazy conspiracy theory to believe, and are starting to see how nuts the rest of you are. The infighting is delicious. The tears are so yummy. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving crowd.

Jim Carrey reacts to Will Smith Chris Rock Slap @ The Oscars

JiggaJonson says...

exactly.

I'm not a celebrity, but that doesnt matter. pick a profession, ANY profession outside of boxing and MMA

"Do you want to work with someone who will potentially hit you in the face if you say the wrong thing?" Other actors (like jim carrey) will see his name on something and just not want to work with him.

Comments here about him (will smith) being fine and what not are probably right, but hollywood is also a very fickle place. People don't want to deal with that shit.

I agree with Jim Carrey that the standing ovation given to Will Smith was more offensive than the slap itself. Kudos to Chris Rock for taking the high road, and getting "on with the show" - shows a true professional. Glad his comedy tour tickets are selling out.

A lot of initial reports were calling this a punch, but it wasn't. It was a weak slap, I'm sure that Smith could have slapped much harder but that wasn't the point. It was still dumb. He should have just got on stage and asked Chris to apologize and hold up the show until he did. The dumbest part was Will actually laughed at the joke!

As far as DA prosecuting, you know he'd never see jail time, and for any monetary fine- he's already done to himself by negative reputation. Think of all the potential future roles he's lost in that 1 moment. Time to go buy an island and move there, cause he's now retired.

It didn’t look weak to me. Maybe he didn’t fully connect, but he put his whole body into it with follow through. Remember, this guy played Ali not so long ago and probably has near 100lbs on Chris.

I think the “ He should have just got on stage and asked Chris to apologize and hold up the show until he did.” Idea is almost as bad, just as narcissistic and self centered, takes away from the other winners just as much, and makes it all about Will’s bruised ego just as much, it only eliminates the actual, rather minimal violence….a step in the right direction, but hardly decent or acceptable behavior. If it becomes accepted, forget awards shows, somebody’s going to Kanye at every one for their own reasons. (Yes, I just used Kanye as a verb)

Will should have declined his award, or at the least given his time to Questlove and the rest of the Summer of Soul creators that he stole the limelight from. His apology fell incredibly flat. That’s another way his actions hurt the African American community, a major award for a stupendous documentary about a forgotten, amazing “black Woodstock” was ignored because of his tantrum.

The prosecution wouldn’t be about the punishment, you’re right, he would get community service and a tiny fine. It’s about showing there’s no free pass for the privileged, and not prosecuting proves there is one, at least in Hollywood. Not a good message to send to say the least.

I agree, he needs to retire, he’s got way more going on than one minor joke to have that reaction. He doesn’t need the money. I hope he takes his annoying kid with him.

More likely, if Rock is to press charges. It'll be settled out of court. No one wants the hassle to drag this out in public (too risky for PR) and Rock & Smith probably don't want to piss off Hollywood either.

The DA however, should press charges. It's the only way to show people big shots are not above the law.

newtboy said:

I had heard that not only is he selling out now, tickets are $750!! That said, in a month when the excitement dies down, who’s to say it won’t swing the other way.

And there’s the damage to his reputation, if not his career, that is also worth something. Not $500million, but you start big…who knows, maybe Will would hand it over to escape. He’s got it.

I think the appropriate measure is what would Will say was enough restitution if someone did that to his loved one, wife or child, on an international broadcast…that’s what he owes Chris’s family. That’s got to be in the hundreds of millions, not a few thousand….but I don’t decide so my opinion is moot.

Edit: really, I think the DA should press charges. He doesn’t need Chris, he’s got it on video from a dozen angles. Case closed.

Will Smith Making Bald Jokes Doesn’t Age Well

probably a small segment of the viewing populace understood 'g.i. jane' reference. even smaller knowing the hair loss issue. being hollywood - the joke was mild by ricky jarvis' standards - and having come out w/her problem, was it any worst than...
- richard pryor addressing his first audience after he blazed himself, "y'all did some nasty ass jokes on my ass - oh yeah y'all didn't think i saw some of these mfers..." then did the lit match joke.
- paul reubens' "Heard any good jokes lately?"
- and the numerous running jokes about letterman's marriage/relationship after the extortion revelation
...they humbled themselves and rode it out.

but whada i know about it? wouldn't likely to be hired on as a variety reporter but thought jim carrey's take was the best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdofcQnr36A
