Taxation and private investment (Blog Entry by jwray)

jwray says...

If people aren't investing in T-Bills, they're either going to invest that money somewhere else or hoard it under their mattress. So deficit spending will help when confidence is low but won't be worthwhile at other times.

Ideally T-Bill interest rates shouldn't even be as much as inflation. You should actually have to make an informed choice and take a risk to make money, rather than participating in an ever-snowballing hereditary aristocracy.

^I agree about PQ hoarding, but the main thing for me is just accurately recording the numbers here. If it's not an accurate number, then it either needs to be fixed or eliminated. There are a lot of stat nerds here, so I hope they're in agreement with us on this topic.

No need @kronosposeidon, I believe you. Just wasn't sure. Then yes, total videos should be all videos with votes on them, unsifted, PQ and sifted. This will, hopefully, discourage the PQ hoarding we see around too. The average rating needs to be more important to users for that to work well, though.

Power Point Problem (Geek Talk Post)

Sagemind says...

Just so you know, I wasn't accusing you of hoarding
I was accusing myself, at times, of hoarding, while not truly meaning to.

I agree with the dilemma.
Our spontaneously replenishing point should be separate from our earned (or purchased?) points. we could then save our earned points to pat ourselves on the back and use our replenished point to freely spend on others as quickly as we get them. This, of course, while still maintaining the ability to combine the points at will.

I'm not a programmer and I don't pretend to even understand the logistics involved here. I do understand though, that anything is possible given the right spark of imagination and creativity when the problem presents itself. (Still sounds like a big programming project to me though - not being a programmer)

Power Point Problem (Geek Talk Post)

Well I know you can't hoard them up, and I don't have a problem "using or losing" them, but half the time I don't even know I've got an extra PP, because I'm either asleep, or of course I can't predict if I'm going to get a top 15 or an applauded comment. So that kinda sucks...

I tried to quote ya dag, to respond (quote still only works intermittently)I have for the reality of an alien presence is the same as anyone has-First-hand accounts (my own included) of phenomena, and the testimony of air-traffic, ex-military and employees of defense contractors employed by the blacker segments of the MIC.

For all you StarTrex® fans out there Gene's vision of our entry into the galaxy's established traveler's club may not be far from wrong. They have monitored our progress for some time and hackles were raised when we began tweaking the atomic structure in the 40's-Since then they have a vested interest in our continued forward progress. Defective examples of the human species, who would that all stay hidden and controlled-hoarding resources and power for their little cabal, are kept in check.

All is connected vibrationally, dimensionally, and there are ways of interacting with the whole of our universe. We'll find out soon enough-

I'd like to explore this- as it's a topic I'm interested in. What evidence do you have that aliens are living among us - and what's their agenda?

Individualism vs. Collectivism

rougy says...

I think that the premise of the argument is flawed.

Collectivism and individualism are not necessarily at odds.

Making it appear so is an obfuscation of reality, which is the heart of the question, and that question is this: what is the nature of ownership?

The proponents of individualism are only using that concept to justify their tendency to hoard profits and exploit people and resources as they see fit.

They have no problem with “collectivism” as long as that group effort is subservient to their will.

What is a corporation if not a collectivist effort where only a handful of the people profit greatly and the majority of the people profit hardly at all? Where a majority of people are paid only enough to go slowly into debt?

“Individualism” is a code word that corporatists use to keep the working class from organizing for their own benefit.

It's ironic because the most dreadfully conformist people to be found are always in the upper echelons of corporate management.

>> ^imstellar28:
The concept of a material object being a fundamental right is logically incongruent.
A. Humans have the fundamental right to defend against the theft of their property
B. Humans have the fundamental right to water
If B is true, then someone must be provided with water even if nobody is willing or able to provide it. Taking someone's water against their will would be a violation of A, thus A and B cannot both be true at the same time. I think we can all agree that A is true because theft is almost universally condemned as a crime, so B must be supported by invalid assumptions.
>> ^L0cky:
why so?

Actually, the concept of ownership is fundamentally flawed.

Aside from laws and rules that are invented by the powerful to exploit the weak, nobody owns anything more than what they need to survive.

If you have more than you need to survive, and others are suffering or dying due to your hoarding, you are by definition a criminal.

Economic gluttony is a criminal act.

Iron Man 2 - Official Trailer

mentality says...

A bad guy who is totally exposed wielding 2 energy whips for weapons seems like a pretty stupid villain. A thug with a 9mm would be more dangerous.

Also, Tony Stark is a total douche for hoarding his technology. I mean here we have a way for producing infinite clean energy, which would be the biggest breakthrough since man discovered fire. It would win every Nobel prize there is, including literature, because of how awesome it is. It would end our dependence on chemical fuels, provide unlimited freshwater, stop deforestation, end hunger, enable new means of space exploration, usher in a new generation of portable consumer electronics, etc.... and all Stark wants to do is fly around playing vigilante sheriff. What a jackass.

Why Switzerland Has the Lowest Crime rate in the World

choggie says...

There is a documentary out there about the high suicide rate among Swiss males. About 17.6 percent of the entire population in 2005 offed themselves, Satan knows the Swiss have some blood on their hands with regard to WW2....this has little to do with the common sense of having arms around to match or exceed the firepower of invading assholes, which is simple good sense. They DO have to protect all that Nazi gold they still hoard, not to mention all those numbered accounts of similar assholes alive and kicking.
