Grandpas Smoking Weed for the First Time

newtboy says...

Vaping only heats the weed to a temperature that vaporises the active chemicals without turning it to carbon, so you put far less through your lungs. They make vaporizors that use a water pipe attachment, so even the vapor gets cooled.

The Pax has different temp settings so you can get just what you want. Lower temps produce far less vapor and might leave some less volatile chemicals in the weed, hotter vaporizes more and produces a thicker hit, but ends up toasting the weed and eventually burning it. The Pax isn't designed for hash and or oils, for that I suggest looking at ineedhemp.com . They have setups for oil and herb, and offer the water pipe attachment.

Being 55 / non smoker this vape thing has passed me by so I got to ask.

Why is a Vape better than a pipe/ bong?

Why does this PAX Vape have different temp settings? For a smother smoke or for different items to vape like weed or hash or such?

How to Make Easy Chicken Gyros

newtboy (Member Profile)

oritteropo says...

You clearly have this sorted out already

You sound like you're doing much better than I am. Every year I tell myself I'm going to cover my chillies on the few nights we expect frost... and every year I forget, or pull them inside for the first frost and then the second one gets them a few days later.

It doesn't matter so much to have to plant new herbs or chillies every year, but citrus trees take a while to get going.

I tried lemons in the ground here....it lived almost 3 years, but never had a lemon.
I have peach, nectarine, and plumbs in 1/2 barrels now, doing OK, but the peach and nectarine could use more room, they're both around 8-10 ft tall. The nectarines might need more cold than we get to bear fruit, but it's happy so far a year in.
I also started a trio of Asian pears in a 1/2 barrel about 10 years back, twisted together in a spiral, then planted the whole thing a few years ago, barrel and all (with the bottom pulled out). A year later I pulled all the staves and hoops up and it's been pretty happy ever since. I've had hit and miss luck just planting smaller trees directly in our ground, so I try to get the trees pretty established these days before putting them out.
If I try an orange tree, I'll probably put it in a 40 gallon pot (I like the air pots now over 1/2 barrels, they seem to make a difference in growth speed and are far cheaper) and move it inside during winter for at least the first 4-5 years, and definitely bonsai it to keep it around 8 ft.
I have a small orchard of apple trees now....around 30, and a few other fruits. At least I know they do great in our climate.

EDIT: We have had years with over a week at 20°F in the past, so I'll definitely have to cover an orange tree at times once I put it outside. If I keep it small, no problem.

Products that promise "detox" are a sham. Yes, all of them.

shagen454 says...

I did the "master cleanse" once for about a week. After that I felt like I was doing more harm then anything beneficial.

The most important thing is a healthy diet. The past month I have literary been detoxing.... really, I should have gone to rehab - that is how bad my alcohol problem has been The key to my success (10+ years of drinking 5+ drinks -pretty much every single day) - I started drinking two Kombucha's a day. There is no real evidence that Kombucha has health benefits (it even contains a small amount of alcohol). But, it has been a fine replacement for alcohol and has worked for me, it also doesn't contain many calories, so I've been sober, feeling good, losing a little weight and probably saving some money. It may be a "pseudo-scientific" product, but it's way better than any of the alternatives, as the fermented tea is a little like having an actual drink.

Another detox product is a herb called Kratom. This can be used in place of an alcohol or opiate addiction to overcome sometimes deadly withdrawal symptoms. Some people in the medical profession even use it for their aches & pains as they do not want to be on pharmaceutical drugs... but the DEA is going to be scheduling it as a Schedule I drug. Fucking... idiots....

Dandelions : Edible and Medicinal Uses

oritteropo says...

Both videos mentioned in passing that it's a diuretic, but in fact the French name for the herb is pissenlit (meaning pee in your bed!). The English name is also from French, Dent de Lion, meaning Lion's tooth from the serrated edge of the leaves.

10 Things Canadians Don't Know About Americans

gorillaman says...

The croissant is one of the most magnificent articles of pastry on earth and it should be treated with the proper respect.

How could it be that americans can't pronounce croissant correctly but they still insist on a pretentious, faux-french style for 'herb'? Just what is the matter with these people?

Listen, I'm british so that means I'm really smart and you have to do what I tell you. Croissant is pronounced 'kwa-sorn'; herb is pronounced 'herb'. If someone tells you otherwise, you slap them right in the mouth.

God knows what crimes @Gratefulmom has had to witness done to 'au jus'. "Oh, juice"?

What if the World went Vegetarian?

transmorpher says...

Go vegan instead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9nNa81dSoY
IT'S EASY! Just take a few weeks to get informed, don't jump into it. Read the books suggested below.

Vegetarian is a nice thing to do, but it should be really be only a stepping stone on your path to fully plant based diet. Plant foods are hearty delicious foods like pizza, burgers, lentil shepherds pies, pastas. You just swap out one or two ingredients that are from an animal origin, add more spices/herbs and you have a filling & healthy meal. You can stuff your face, and lose weight, lose the type 2 diabetes and heart disease as well. It's win win.

What many vegetarians don't know is that the milk and dairy industries are often more cruel, than farms that just use animals for meat, and often they are also intertwined. For example, for a cow to produce milk, it must be pregnant. Where do all of the offspring go? Veal if they are male. Or they become milking cows if they are female - destined to be constantly impregnated for their short 4-5 year lives until they die of exhaustion, or can no longer produce milk from exhaustion, and turned then eventually into meat. There are plenty of videos online where a cow gives birth and the calf is dragged away by it's hind legs. They both cry out to each other for days until they're voices give out.
Also cows milk GIVES people osteoporosis because it siphons out calcium from your bones, since it is so acidic. If you measure the amount of calcium in a glass of milk, let someone drink it, and then measure the calcium in their urine, then the urine contains more calcium than what went in. And it's being leeched from the bones.

It's a similar story for chickens. Male chicks get thrown into a grinder ALIVE. Because they're no use if they can't lay eggs.

The toxic waste produced the by milk and egg industries (animal poo etc) destroys environments.

The antibiotics used to keep all of those animals of course ends up in the environment and it will eventually make a super bug which medicine cannot kill.

The job loss portion seems silly, since anyone farming animals is capable of farming plants like rice, potatoes, wheat and grains etc. Those are some seriously nutrient and energy dense foods, and very efficiently produced, and very healthy. Carbs have just gotten a bad reputation thanks the Atkins people. And well we know that Atkins died of a heart attack, he had a history of heart attacks infact. He died overweight.

It is much easier just to go "cold turkey" for 3 or 4 weeks, and become completely plant based since it means your taste buds will adjust and you'll never crave animal products again. Everyone wins, the planet, your health both physical and mental, and of course the animals.

There are plenty off great books with recipes that are familiar and hearty that can help people get started, it's easier than you think. Books such as:
The Starch Solution, Dr. John McDougall.
Negative Calorie Effect, Dr Neal Barnard.
Power Foods for the Brain, Dr Neal Barnard.
Engine #2 Diet, Rip Esselstyn.

Lukas Graham "7 Years"

eric3579 says...

Once I was 7 years old, my mama told me,
Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely,
Once I was 7 years old

It was a big, big world but we thought we were bigger
Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker
By 11 smoking herb, and drinking burning liquor
Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure

Once I was 11 years old, my daddy told me,
Go get yourself a wife or you'll be lonely
Once I was 11 years old

I always had that dream, like my daddy before me
So I started writing songs, I started writing stories
Something about that glory, just always seemed to bore me
'cus only those I really love will ever really know me

Once I was 20 years old, my story got told
Before the morning sun, when life was lonely
Once I was 20 years old

I only see my goals, I don't believe in failure,
'cus I know the smallest voices, they can make it major,
I got my boys with me, at least those in favour
And if we don't meet before I leave, I hope I'll see you later

Once I was 20 years old, my story got told
I was writing about everything I saw before me
Once I was 20 years old

Soon we'll be 30 years old, our songs have been sold
We've traveled around the world and we're still roaming
Soon we'll be 30 years old

I'm still learning about life
My woman brought children for me
So I can sing them all my songs
And I can tell them stories
Most of my boys are with me
Some are still out seeking glory
And some I had to leave behind
My brother, I'm still sorry

Soon I'll be 60 years old
My daddy got 61
Remember life and then your life becomes a better one
I made a man so happy when I wrote a letter once
I hope my children come and visit once or twice a month

Soon I'll be 60 years old
Will I think the world is cold,
or will I have a lot of children who can warm me
Soon I'll be 60 years old

Soon I'll be 60 years old
Will I think the world is cold,
or will I have a lot of children who can warm me
Soon I'll be 60 years old

Once I was 7 years old, mama told me
Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely
Once I was 7 years old

Synchronized Neighborhood Christmas Lights

Why would there be "a hell of a lot more traffic?" It's in a neighborhood. At dusk. The one or two cars you see are cruising around slowly checking out the cool show from the ground. How is that hard to believe?

You guys are all paranoid fuckers. Lay off the herbs.

The Death of Jerry Garcia as Reported on ABC's 'Nightline'

chingalera says...

I used to hang-out in Jerry Garcia's daughter's (Trixie?) art studio at SFAI when my GF was enrolled there-She had a studio on the second floor near the communal bong, and she always had good herb. I was one of about 10 people who knew who she was(GF worked in the rack room) and that she was even there-This was during Garcia's divorce and about 2.5 years before he died.

She's livin' la vida now I'll bet, Jerry left her and her ma and sibs around 5 million to fight over....

When I hear KW's impeded ramblings in interviews one thing always comes to mind besides that bloatatious ego and his sheit jams: A crack-damaged brain and whatever good herb he's always high on, wasted on the same.

I recently read an interesting anecdote that illustrates some reasons why American healthcare is more expensive and at the same time, the only place in which you can get "better" care than in some of the European "socialist utopias." The reason for this is because socialized medicine restricts what medical services you can get in order to keep the costs low. In the U.S.A., people don't want that so they ask for both unlimited medical care and socialized medicine. At inflated prices. So the U.S.A. ends up spending much more than other places for medical care. But you have access to more services. This is the result of the unsustainable system in which we're living. It's an interesting anecdote, if you have the time to read it.

Also, you had said that "poor" people cannot afford the preventive approach, alternative ways to stay healthy. This is an inaccurate generalization, and completely untrue. But, still, even so, do you honestly think that the socialized healthcare systems in the European utopias that you mention would pay for preventative care like eating healthy food, doing yoga, seeing an acupuncturist regularly, buying herbs from a naturopath, going to the gym, or anything else that's not the "standard" and "approved" medicine that those health systems recognize as "legitimate" healthcare?

My Italian visiting friend happens to be a Feldenkrais practitioner. Do you think that European socialized healthcare pays for people to go see him to prevent later knee or hip replacements or back surgeries? Do you know what health "insurance" in these countries pays for or what it doesn't?

If anything, health insurance encourages people to not do these preventive things and just go see a doctor and/or take some pills because doing that is cheaper as insurance pays for it while they have to pay for the preventive stuff out of pocket. "Cut it or drug it" is the insurance company's motto. A socialized healthcare system would be no different.
