The camera isn't racist. The homeowner might be a racist (we would not know unless he/she uploads every instance of such attempts to give a cold-hard-fact account that's free of manipulation -- even though that's STILL not factoring in the socio-econo-racial problem of the neighborhood -- if you choose to see things with a racial lens). But the comment absolutely is racist.

Years ago, living in my suburb home, my bike was stolen by 2 kids (garage door was open as I was mowing the lawn, but I went inside for the loo for 2 mins), I was lucky and spotted them about 5~6 streets down (took 2 lucky correct turns). They were 2 kids about 8~10 y.o. One White one Asian. Guess which one was the older, pack leader (hold my adult-size bike) and absolutely showing no remorse after getting caught?

Regardless, the kids parents might have a hard life working on weekends at low paying jobs so couldn't spend time with these kids. Who knows? I'm not so quick to judgement without knowing the root causes.

Thing is, I blame society-at-large and not see it as a racial thing. Kids are kids, easy to succumb to such temptation without good parental/peer/mentor guidance. Especially nowadays, they see adults making a CAREER/LIVING as Porch Pirates, what examples are adults giving them to imitate? You have like 40% of the adult population celebrate con mans and elect them Senators, Governors & President!

I think it's more a matter of pointing out that science doesn't provide guidance, only understanding. We should use information provided by scientific research to guide policy, but policy won't always 100% follow that guidance. As an example, if research indicated the best way to solve Problem X is using Solution A, but Solution A is exceedingly expensive, or will cause public outcry, or requires materials from a hostile region, then Solution B might be what you opt for instead. Practicalities may make "follow the science" a poor, or at least less viable option.

I've wondered the same thing, I'm guessing because the guidance system is new? It looks like it's only on the newer version 2. I've seen this spread before when they shoot at small boats, so I don't know if it's error or intentional, it might be trying to hit 2' below the water line but the tracer rounds just bounce on water while real 30mm rounds don't? Maybe it's practice to warn off approaching ships without hitting them?

Side note, there actually was a phalanx in the video shooting, but the much slower shots at the boat were the mark 38.

Trump administration's March 13 CDC directive- "nursing homes should admit any individuals that they would normally admit to their facility, including individuals from hospitals where a case of COVID-19 was/is present."

CDC guidelines require any newly admitted and readmitted resident with a COVID-19 case to be placed in a designated COVID-19 care unit, while those who have met the criteria to have recovered can return to a regular unit in the nursing home. The March 13 guidance that Cuomo's office cited says "a nursing home can accept a resident diagnosed with COVID-19... as long as the facility can follow CDC guidance."

In short, because the CDC told them to.

There weren't shutdowns because H1N1 wasn't spread before symptoms show, wasn't as easily spread, and wasn't 1/10 as deadly. By denying travel to and quarantining the visibly sick, it was relatively easy to stop the spread. There were many travel restrictions including travel bans, but they were mostly voluntarily. There was screening of passengers and sick ones were denied travel. Also, thanks to preparations, a vaccine only took months to create.
Yes, we got lucky, but we certainly didn't JUST get lucky, we took action AND got lucky.

I get the impression things aren't much different today, which is a shame on a level I won't even get into here, but I really wonder how career guidance differs now compared to the pre-internet era.

Aliens with the tech to get here from another solar system would mop us up.

We simply couldn't fight that.

Back in the '70s scientists came up with a space weapon they called THOR, which is essentially a crowbar-sized bit of metal that has guidance fins at the back. Drop that from outer space and the simple energy of it falling creates an immense amount of damage at ground level.

Aliens who could get here from another solar system could simply throw chunks of asteroid at our cities until we capitulated. No space laser is going to stop that. Especially when they'd have space lasers of their OWN to target our space lasers.
