Top Secret! (1984) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers

You're entirely welcome! I was curious, and rather shocked at how good of a month that was for movies. I don't know that I was previously aware Ghostbusters and Gremlins came out on the same damned day...

Top Secret! (1984) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers

It confuses me that this movie isn't better-known. Having just looked at the other releases* the month it came out I can completely understand it not being a theatrical success, but it should have caught on via home rental. Nope! Always had a cult following, never anything beyond that.

*First week of June 1984: Star Trek III. Second week, Gremlins and Ghostbusters (yes, on the same day). Third week was dead, but the 4th saw not just Top Secret! but also The Karate Kid. The next week was Bachelor Party, Conan the Destroyer, and Cannonball Run II. I don't think Top Secret! stood a chance.

What does a '78 Gremlin go for anyway? (if it's for Hallowe'en, I was hoping the entire box could be lifted by a real dude - or dudette - inside and walked down the street to the next Trickortreatorium.

Excellent. I bet that only cost about twice what my car cost. Was anyone else hoping the door would start to open at the end, with lots of steam/smoke and banging?

Earlier today, I was sent a link to an article in Bloomberg titled Why Workers Are Losing to Capitalists. Marx in Bloomberg? Impossibru!

But nevermind Marx. That opinion piece is 800 words, give or take, on labour's share of income. Yet it doesn't mention policy once. Not a single time. It's automation, it's globalisation, it's Gremlins. But not a single peep on policy.

Nothing on union busting. Nothing on taxes on capital vs taxes on labour. Nothing on minimum wages. Nothing on welfare. Nothing on the public sector.

If you read about inequality and related issues in these papers, there's rarely any agency. It's always something abstract like market forces, globalisation, innovation, etc. Nothing on decisions made by people in power, parliament first and foremost, that often had the explicit aim of reducing wages to "increase competitiveness".

Ah, another RAID (whew, not Raid) victim. My online IRC buddies and I heard this puncture term from a Dell guy earlier today. It was funny.

Those gremlins will always be back.

Server guys say bad raid controller - it's been swapped out. Maybe we've slayed the gremlins.

* discuss with yourself the dynamics of bored children breaking rules with ad-hom?? Please? Getting tired of suffering the childish shit man-You're talking license and so is chicco-Tired of it. How about slowing-down and contributing more than simply booorish spit-pop? I know my own may seem that way to you and a few others but I make each and every comment here with a view to consciousness and not just hearing myself speak. I also like to write. Your own gremlin-ism? Of another flavor. Sophomoric, strained, waxing a tad unclever.

Best Explanation of Magnets I've Ever Seen

Nah...if it doesn't affect the results or the predictions, it doesn't really matter. Not to say that some of us won't be curious anyway, but that's the only real point. Gremlins or a convenient concept of warped space-time, if they cause identical effects, not only does it not matter, but nobody will ever be able to show which is correct.

"How" in this sense is identical to "Why", a neverending chain of questions that can never be completely answered. "What will happen" is where the meat is.

I'd have to say that if I can predict the results of every interaction, "how" those results come about is a rather pointless question. "What happens" trumps "how" every time.

Freedom is slavery. I mean, for fuck's sake you have ALL the freedoms in the world to enslave yourself with. We must be in a shitty philosophy-Rube-Goldberg machine because all of the obvious dumb shit that we saw coming is happening.

I was taught NOT to be paranoid, which scared the shit out of me. My parents scared the shit out of me by not giving a fuck.

Blame the system, eh? Well, yes, but it's an unthinking machine of cause and effect, filled to the brim with gremlins in our own little kremlin. And it breeds intolerance, depression, guilt, gluttony, greed -- all those things our glorified economists say are actually good.

Oh really? Fuck us in the ass more, master. It feels so good. I love it when you use humanity and then cum on its face. GREED IS GOOD.
