MORTAL ENGINES Trailer 2 (2018)

Han Solo movie trailer

I was annoyed at Rogue One having a passive protagonist....

I felt pretty burned by paying money to see TLJ's disconnected train-wreck plot....

Casting wasn't the problem in either film. Amazing CG visuals around greenscreen actors can't fix weak writing.

Hmm... not sold yet. Looks pretty, but so did Rogue One. A bit worrying that they barely showed Solo in his own movie....

No wires or greenscreen, but there is a little editing right? Please tell me there's a little editing because otherwise how long did this take? I guess if there's 21 flights it must have had cuts or edits... or was that practice?

Did the stewardess spinning circle looked a little edited in? It's so good, i want to see the making of now!

The Official Donald Trump Jam

newtboy jokingly says...

ERMERGERD!!! I was CERTAIN this was someone making fun of the Trump crowds by greenscreening in this...this.....there are no words. Then I checked and see this is actually linked from the Fox local channel, not some liberal jokester.

Love the hand-grabbing-hand bit.

What's this all about anyway?

Whatevs.

Ah, scripted and directed in front of a greenscreen for a max 30 second art video with max 100 words.

Very cool movie magic - How did they do that?

2 shots. A side has greenscreen where the mirror is (there are edges, lack of hair detail and the lighting is different on each side). the B side was shot with no wall, stabilized then tracked to the A side until leto clears frame and then goes back to it's own movements. i'm pretty sure the push into the mirror was done in post as well.

There are a lot of ways to do this kind of shot that don't involve any kind of greenscreen. Unfortunately I can't think of any good examples at the moment, it's been more than 15 years since I had those classes in college, but I saw many from mid-century 1900's (lots of Hitchcock for one) that showed how they'd work around camera visibility and such.
Meh, that wasn't a helpful comment, was it? Well, at least you know... something! Plus it's good to know there are ways to achieve mind-bending visuals that don't involve CG. Pre-CG-era filmmakers were quite clever.

The green screen idea is the easiest way in this situation; if you notice, the mirrored Jared doesn't completely synchronize with the actions of the first Jared. The mirrored Jared did that shot facing a camera instead of a mirror, and then the mirror was replaced with a greenscreen for the beginning of the shot. Once the camera zooms in past the mirror frame, the greenscreening effects are no longer needed.

I'm guessing that either the mirror was a green screen, and they managed to seamlessly combine the two shots, or the mirror was actually a glassless window to an identical room, and they added the second Jared Leto in post. Or maybe there's an invisible cut when the camera pans with the first Jared Leto, and when we see his back we're actually looking at another actor, and the real Jared Leto is standing behind the fake mirror. I dunno. It's pretty seamless.

Great movie, by the way. Really ambitious and super stylish (but not in an overbearing way).

That's a lot of bullshit over-dramatization for information that seems interesting enough on its own.

I see what you mean, but I actually disagree somewhat. Yeah, this was all inceptionolized with the cool music and all, but so was Inception, and inception was a pretty cool movie, visually. Sure, it was only awesome actors hanging in wires in elaborate sets and greenscreens, but did it NEED the music to look cool? Probably not. But the music added to it, it helped tell the story, build the excitement and so forth. And even tho this is a real-life mission, there is a story to tell, and its even important that people understand it, understand the drama, the risks, and so on, and fancy music can help you tell the story. Would this have even been sifted if it was just a couple of scientists listing facts against a neutral background? Maybe, maybe not. But audio and visual presentation matters, and it works. It can go overboard and get silly ( like nearly everything on the discovery networks), but in this case, I actually think it helped emphasizing the drama involved.
