1000 Year Heatwave Becoming The Norm

newtboy says...

"Climate scientists are increasingly concerned that global heating will trigger tipping points in Earth’s natural systems, which will lead to widespread and possibly irrevocable disaster, unless action is taken urgently.

The impacts are likely to be much closer than most people realise, a a draft report from the world’s leading climate scientists suggests, and will fundamentally reshape life in the coming decades even if greenhouse gas emissions are brought under some control.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is preparing a landmark report to be published in stages this summer and next year. Most of the report will not be published in time for consideration by policymakers at Cop26, the UN climate talks taking place in November in Glasgow.

A draft of the IPCC report apparently from early this year was leaked to Agence France-Presse, which reported on its findings on Thursday. The draft warns of a series of thresholds beyond which recovery from climate breakdown may become impossible. It warns: “Life on Earth can recover from a drastic climate shift by evolving into new species and creating new ecosystems … humans cannot.”"

When It Rains In L.A. -- NO ONE GO OUTSIDE.

OK. Imagine a giant glowing ball of fire suddenly appears floating, unmoving in the sky. The sky itself changes from the normal grey to a weird alien blue. The brightness burns your eyes. The heat thrown off by the orb compels madness - previously normal people start inexplicably removing layers upon layers of clothing.

It's happened here in Ireland, and it could happen to you too. Unless you're in Glasgow.

Whoa, I totally missed that line because I was already chuckling at "can't make an appearance?"

That's hilarious (from my perspective anyway), but sure is an outlier in terms of the tone on the whole video -- the rest of the jabs were pretty soft but that's a full-on Glasgow Kiss.

XCOM 2 trailer

I just wish they'd hired a few more voice actors. I loved that my squad was a group of international badasses*. I hated that they all spoke English with an American accent.

* I nearly cried when Douggie, my Scottish assault, died. In my mind, he was got into xcom after escaping the Glasgow gang scene. None of the team could understand him, but he was the first human to ever headbutt an alien. RIP Douggie, ya brave caledonian nutter. We killed that cyberdisk for you, man!

More than the procedural level design, what I really wished for in the previous one was different textures/models, according to the part of the world the level took place. No matter where in the world the action was happening, it always looked like new york or something.

Scottish Independence - Groundskeeper Willie

That is so so so so god damn funny and brilliant. I wish he'd been around for the last few elections though, we could have done with statements like this before the entire system got completely corrupted.

"Where are you from mate?"
"Where are YOU from mate?"
"Glasgow"
"Ah, that's a fair trip you done there, eh?"

My mum lives and works there and provides a lot of employment opportunities to the local community. They are so nice and so funny, i really do love them and their way and i think they love me too. I'd hate us to be in any way separate.

On a related note. A bit of quality trolling regarding Scottish independence. http://youtu.be/DiMXuEmqAHA

Their Airblade hand dryer system that's all the rage in public toilets these days is awesome. It is undeniably faster and more cost effective than those piss poor fan systems. Plus they make me feel like I'm drying my hands in the future!

Seconded! The best "exhibit" in the Glasgow Science Museum is the hand dryer in the bathroom. (OK, the planetarium is pretty awesome too...)
