Republican Socialists

newtboy says...

Trump took the healthy economy off a cliff to the worst economy, employment, and gdp in history. It took him <4 years….and was responsible for over 1 million unnecessary deaths of Americans because of his lack of response to Covid. Downward spiral?! Trump put us in rocket assisted free fall. Biden accelerated the crawling failing economy into an upward spiral.
Obama and Biden spent a lot, but in 4 years Trump spent far more than their 10 years combined while lowering the amount the government brings in on multiple fronts (so increased the debt and deficit in two ways, spending more while making less), and Obama inherited a recession and left a boom, Trump inherited a boom and left a recession….Biden inherited economic collapse, active terroristic sedition, horrific unemployment, and pandemic…all 4 issues are better today than they were on Jan 20, 21.

The inflation reduction act, Bobby. That’s what’s being done.
Also student debt forgiveness.
Edit-Also raising interest rates, finally. Can’t blame Biden for the federal reserve’s hesitation, however….he doesn’t control them and can only make suggestions.
That’s the answer.
Almost every Republican opposed it (them) and voted against it (them), nearly every Republican then went home and took credit for it (them) and said it (they) was a great thing for their constituents (but pretended they hadn’t been against it (them) with every fiber of their being because it’s (they’re) really popular)….just like they did with the infrastructure bill.

Higher interest rates ARE helping, just not enough yet. It definitely should have started earlier than March…. .25% interest rates were just insanely low. Inflation has lowered, but as you well know, Trump’s administration just printed over 1/5 of every dollar in 2020….just made 20% more dollars while gdp went to -32.9% and unemployment skyrocketed to unheard of levels. This causes 20% inflation or more all by itself…Joe’s administration kept that below 10% miraculously.

If bankruptcy boy was still running the economy, we would have 20% inflation, more oil infrastructure sold to the Saudis (they bought the biggest refinery in America in secret under Trump and cut production), higher gas and oil prices, no infrastructure funding, no inflation plan, Ukraine would no longer exist, NATO would still be impotent, ….bankrupting a country is much worse than bankrupting 6 businesses. Trump did both.

Thanks Biden….

P.S.- Nice deflection from the undeniable hypocrisy the video is about. Way to completely ignore the right now taking credit for the popular and helpful Biden legislation they all opposed….praising it, explaining what a great thing it is for their states, economy, and constituents while pretending they didn’t ALL vote against it out of pure spite which outweighs any wish for America to succeed. Their sudden love for the law they diametrically and insultingly opposed is absolute proof they oppose beneficial legislation simply to avoid letting Biden succeed.

Edit: Will you ever get tired of begging for attention for being 100% wrong 99.6% of the time?

Tower distructtion

I love that the tower went down in a free fall at the end.

I was gonna make some 911 truther joke here about explosives but the election's tomorrow and I don't have it in me.

Gettin' out of here!

Pouring water down a 50 meter well

newtboy jokingly says...

It accelerates at up to 9.8m/s^2 (- wind resistance)but terminal velocity can be well below or above 9.8m/s, depending on how (or if) it breaks up.

(I could only find terminal velocity data for droplets up to 3mm, and studies did show droplet stability up to 6mm outside laminar flows)

Climbing The Tallest Chimney In Europe - 1,197 feet

Just a few minor quibbles....
They aren't professionals, or at least this isn't a professional stunt.
That environment isn't controlled.
That wasn't a 15 second free fall, he forgot to account for the time the sound takes to reach him...maybe a 14.5 second fall.

Also...NOPE! Some pee came out just watching, and I started making Tina Belcher sounds uncontrollably. Screw that.

First 5 minutes of Ghost in the Shell Movie.

jmd says...

In this Ghost in the shell movie, cybernetics are just exploding. The guy on the right is pitching his major cybernetics company and he was showing the forign president on the left that their cyberbrain enhancements allowed a 4 year old to learn how to speak french AS she was singing a french lullaby. Normally this would be nothing in the GitS universe, but in the movie this is cutting edge tech. I actually disliked the lit up wire node going to his brain because cyberbrains were never a "visual" thing, but this movie may be before cyberbrains became so advanced. Infact the black president may not even have a cyberbrain, and this is simply an audio/visual transmitter implant.

The only thing I don't like is this is "too" origin. GitS was awesome because it started you in the future utopia, and then used half of its season of episodes to explain indirectly new technologies and how sociologies have changed. Cyberbrains were very commonplace and full cybernetic bodies were available to anyone who had the money, like rich people and the military. Saddly that means alot of things the tv series would have will not be in the movies because the technologies has not come yet.

however as redsky mentioned, they do seem to be latching on to the source material a lot (and aside from the revised thermocamoflauge suit.. oh and Batou's eye implants are just normal eyes and apparently his iconic lenses are just for show) so I am still hopeful. Oh, ok, one other nitpick. Somehow Kusanagi managed to spend like 10 seconds outside the windows shooting in through multiple windows before crashing through. She has no gear or technique to "stop" from her free fall, the only thing she can do is dive through the window.

Why must American films explain everything?

What real person would sit across from someone over dinner and explain how their cell phone works, or how their child learned math on an iPad? Why would that change in the future? I hate this American need to assume the audience is stupid and needs to be spoon fed every bit of information.

I could barely watch this whole video. The scenes with the people on the towers without any safety equipment give me that free fall in my gut feeling.

How to survive in a free falling elevator

dannym3141 says...

I'm guessing purely from a forces standpoint that if you were stood up, you'd be a lot more likely to survive than if you were lying down, like the video says. Mainly because your internal organs and brain are about to be decelerating, and you want to minimise the deceleration as much as possible. Your extremities might get pulverised, but without the organs they're not much use anyway.

There's some historic example about a 1945 bomber crashing into the Empire State Building, severing the ropes and inducing free-fall, but the lift's ropes coiled up and cushioned the occupant's fall and they lived. I just looked it up, and apparently only several times has free fall ever happened, only killing one person. But apparently people die from falling in the shafts, mechanics caught in machinery and strangulation from scarves caught in doors.

Jinx said:

...but you wouldn't be able to stack anything in a falling elevator.

Also, forget internal organs. Well, not completely, but having them mostly intact isn't going to help you much if your the fall has driven your femur up through your pelvis and made a proper mess of some rather important arteries. My procedure for nightmare-falling-in-elevator-scenario is a) protect head with arms - adopt the brace position b) Lie as flat as possible to avoid aforementioned projectile leg bones c) get as close to the floor of the lift as possible.

but yeah, you're probably fucked.

Bowling Ball and Feather dropped in largest vacuum chamber

newtboy says...

Gravity still exists, and exerts exactly the same force on you independent of whether you are standing on solid ground or falling, and whether you are falling inside an elevator or in empty space. The difference is the opposite force exerted on you by the ground vs no opposite force (except the tiny force exerted by air if you're freefalling in the open air). It is this opposite force you 'feel', while acceleration due to gravity without any opposing force feels like floating.
So a man in a free-falling elevator in an atmosphere WOULD feel a tiny bit of gravity, because the outside air would slow the elevator to less than terminal velocity, so it would slow down slightly, unlike the mans descent, making him fall/float to the floor of the elevator eventually and then feel a microgravity exactly equal to the force exerted by the air.

Magicpants said:

He didn't, at least not according to "Einstein: His Life and Universe." where he is reported to have said that his happiest thought was that Gravity and Acceleration are equivalent. It was a breakthrough for him to realize that a man in a falling elevator wouldn't feel the force of gravity, because they are the same thing.

Well...........THAT'S Gratitude For You!!!

His heel barely touched the uppermost part of the tower, yet it collapsed from the bottom at free-fall speed. I suspect an inside job/thermite/professional demolition/new world order conspiracy. Wake up, sheeple.

Not quite risky enough rail grind (cable grind)

Not in my opinion. It's still ballsy for most people, even if he is extremely talented. That little twist at the end just says to me "I'm so bored of this controlled free-fall".

Skydiver Almost Struck By Meteorite

shatterdrose says...

I think a more interesting title would be "Skydiver killed by meteorite while in free fall." But that might just be a tad morbid, and wrong. So let's go with "hit by" instead . . .

Otherwise, it's quite plausible for something like this to happen. We're constantly being bombarded so eventually it's bound to happen. But yeah, was hoping for more smoke and flames.

Godzilla - Official Trailer 2014

shatterdrose says...

Well, technically speaking, I think the faster human free fall was around 800mph, unaided by propulsion. It was a matter of being in the right angle and wearing the right fabrics…. and the right altitude. So realistically speaking, they *could* parachute insert a lot faster than terminal velocity . . . If they tried hard enough.

artician said:

Hey! *That could happen!*

But scientifically there's no way America can make a good Godzilla film, or that a human being free-falling in Earths atmosphere could accelerate beyond terminal velocity unaided.
