Whiter Shade of Pale - Procol Harum

Trout says...

Ah, one of the all-time great singles of the rock era. So mature, yet it was their first single. I envy those hearing this for the first time (and they're just kids in this video... kids!). One of Paul McCartney's favorite songs:

McCartney: "It's got to be "A Whiter Shade of Pale." The first time I ever heard it was the night I met Linda. We met at the Bag O' Nails, and we went on to the Speakeasy, and they played the record of it there. We were with Keith Moon of the Who and Eric Burdon of the Animals, and we were all trying to figure out who it was. We all thought it must be Stevie Winwood, but it turned out to be Procol Harum. We just said, 'This is the best song ever, man.'"

Hardfloor is still going strong. Still the best and will never die! Look them up. Every track they release is good enough to stack up against any track of any other of my favorite artists. They are so consistently good to great and by now have released around 300 hours of great music if you add up all their tracks from albums, EPs and singles. They released their first single in 1991 and have been releasing tracks and albums steadily ever since, one of the best groups out there in any genre and certainly one of the best and most influential dance music acts.

Yay, thank you!

Bit of a long response, but I REALLY have something to say here. Two performing artists from the 1980's stuck out in my mind because I always figured that the 2nd song they released was W-A-Y better than their first. This song was indeed JHJ's first single, but the next song they released struck a chord with me because it had a humanitarian feel to it....the cynic in me says it didn't do too well 'cos the PC brigade didn't want a clean-cut band singing a song that tipped a hat to prostitutes .... but, ho hum.

"Pure Heart Of Gold" - (Johnny Hates Jazz)

Artist number two was a guy called Rupert Holmes, he was most famously known for the "Pina Colada" song, but his 2nd release (which was ALSO a song about cheating within a relationship) just seemed to get to the heart of the matter that bit more & was a better song in my book.

"Him" - (Rupert Holmes)

If I'd known this post was in Beggar's Canyon, it wouldn't have been there for very long, I can tell you that much. Thanks for the trip down memory lane @<a rel="nofollow" href="http://videosift.com/member/mintbbb" title="member since April 30th, 2008" class="profilelink"><strong style="color:#00d9ff">mintbbb

Skunk Anansie - Because Of You

This is actually from a 'greatest hits' collection released in Nov 2009 called 'Smashes and Trashes'. The first single from the band's fourth album, released Sept 2010, is called 'Ugly Boy'. That's what the wiki says. Thanks for posting this, didn't know they'd released anything at all lately - Skin looks insanely younger than her 43 years, geez!

Thanks for that mate! I knew that it was from Smashes and Trashes, but for some reason I thought it was on this album too, haha. And yeah even close up in real life she looks exactly the same as she did in the 90s!

So why's everyone down on the Matrix trilogy? (Scifi Talk Post)

spawnflagger says...

The problem with the 2nd movie was that it wasn't the first movie.
The problem with the 3rd movie was that they turned Neo into Jesus.

But I saw all 3 in theaters and bought all 3 on dvd, so WB and the Wachowski brothers are crying all the way to the bank, and they don't really care what we think.

Animatrix was actually quite good. The stories were (mostly) on par with the first matrix movie, it's just missing the ground-breaking special effects because it's animated.

I played through the first single player game as well, it was ok. Never touched the MMORPG'r though, or it's "path of neo" re-hash.

Music that time forgot (probably for the best) (80s Talk Post)

alien_concept says...

This was probably my favourite album when I was a kid, it included this song

Michael Bolton was the most embarassing thing I listened to, but I blame my parents That album with 'How am I supposed to live without you', what's that called? That's the one I liked. By the way it makes me a bigger person for admitting that...

And the first single I ever owned was 'I should be so lucky' by Kylie Minogue

*watches any respect people might have had left drain away...*
