How To Use Chopsticks The Proper Way

via: etiquette (Sift Talk Post)

MINK says...

none of us actually made or paid for any of this, so worrying about "via" etiquette seems bizarre to me.

or put it this way... if you find a vid on the sift that you like, feauring some talented guy or some amazing animation or music... do you ever go to the dude's youtube channel and thank him for providing you with free entertainment?

Comment hidden because you are ignoring dag. (show it anyway)

I sometimes feel very suspicious when I see video blogs that have new posts that are 2 or 3 videos from our top 15. Not much to do about it I guess - but use the golden rule and try to exemplify the etiquette we would like others to have.

3800 dead videos (Sift Talk Post)

Stingray says...

Is it not considered proper etiquette on the sift to mark a video as dead when it is? I feel as though I am helping people letting them know that the video is no longer functional so that they may fix it.

If the member is no longer active or cannot find a suitable replacement within the two days, it goes to the dead pool to open it up for the entire community to help revive so we can bring the videos back from the dead (and gives the person fixing it a power point).

It's a win/win scenario for all.

Obama Thanks A Marine

Obama Thanks A Marine

The highest officer in the US just saluted you, you return the salute and stand at attention.
Since when does that etiquette not apply to the president?

Sorry no, that's not correct and just not how it works. A superiour officer (in this case President) never salutes their juniors... 'respect' goes upwards.

If you watch the clip again, the marine was saluting as Mr Obama was approaching.

Obama Thanks A Marine

It's simple: Yes, the Marine is allowed to shake his hand. Obama is the Commander-In-Chief, his superior. If any superior officer wants to shake your hand after they return your salute then you certainly can. I don't see the problem.

And that etiquette has never applied to the President, Nordlich. Though the President is the Commander-In-Chief and his superior, he is not in the military. We pride ourselves on having civilians at the head of the government, and civilians don't have to follow military protocol if they don't want to. Though Obama is not an officer (and only officers get saluted in the U.S. military), he is treated as such by the military. Nonetheless, the President doesn't have to return his salute, but they normally do it as a courtesy.

Andy Rooney's Soul Mate Talks About Phone Manners

So if my Parole Officer calls, is it ok if I let the ansering machine pick it up? Or is that bad etiquette? What about my Ex-Wife? Do I have to sound interested when I talk to her?

Finally, what if I go to the wrong house? Do I owe the homeowner 5 dollars? This video really left a lot of unanswered questions.

Bush Booed At Obama's Inauguration

Desviada says...

I'm sorry, I don't see how booing is bad form. Respect is something that should be earned, not given away. I don't care what the etiquette books say -- there is no reason for niceties when someone has used every bit of their power to destroy the lives of others. Bush has no respect for the common man, I see no reason why we should respect him.

And these ideas of automatically respecting someone of high office are carried over from times when royalty were thought of as more important than everymen. I think that sentiment is highly outdated.

Maybe some people can't afford fancy clothes, maybe some people aren't familiar with court proceedings. This is all an issue of etiquette and cultural custom. Not law.

A clean pair of jeans and a long sleeve shirt would be enough to stay out of jail. If she couldn't afford them, perhaps she could have skipped a few drug purchases to save up the cash.
Not familiar with court proceedings? Maybe that would be a reasonable excuse for your first visit. Kirstie has been in court more times this month than most of us will be in our entire lives; she ought to have picked up on a few things by now no matter how zooted she is. Certainly the previous 2 warnings and fine should have gotten her attention.

"She aw-ways picks ohn meh; she aw-ways has some comment tah say about meh!"
Oh no! The judges are saying mean things to our dearest repeat offenders? We must do something to stop this before lowlifes and layabouts all across this great nation are reduced to tears!

Fair enough but i still think its a dumb reason to throw someone in jail.
