As any basic introduction to astrology--heck, the Wikipedia entry on astrology--will tell you, there are two different ways of calculating the signs: tropical and sidereal. Under sidereal astrology, your sign is based on the actual constellation. Most people who think of themselves as a Sagitarrius really will be a Scorpio under sidereal astrology.

Tropical astrology, the most popular form of astrology in the West, is on the other hand based not on the positions of the constellations, but based on the position of the sun at the equinoxes and solstices. The signs are named after the constellations that were present in them back in the day, but it's not as if the equinoxes occur at different points in the year than they used to.

Whether or not you think astrology is bogus or not, it's probably a good idea to at least read the Wikipedia entry on a subject before you criticize it.

Spring equinox isn't that far off.

Spring comes on only one day of the year, every year. March 20 is one of two days that the two poles of the Earth are an equal distance from the Sun. This is called an Equinox. In the northern hemisphere the March equinox is also called the Spring Equinox. This is the the day spring occurs. A groundhog can not make the day happen any sooner because it is just a groundhog. This day also happens to be roughly six weeks after the stupid groundhog comes out of his hole which will always make the '6 more weeks of winter' prediction true. The other possible prediction is 'an early spring.' What does that even mean? How early? There is more than one groundhog and they can't even collectively decide how soon spring will come: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog_day

You could ask, how can a Christian celebrate, Christmas or Easter which both originated as pagan festivals of Solstice and Equinox, which are still dated by the moon.

You could ask, how can a Christian can allow the worship of a false idol, born by cloven animals, who dresses in red and visits at night. Who children pray to with letters and leave offerings of milk and cookies, who encourages greed for material possessions and punishes them with coal fire and brimstone.
On the very night of the birth of their messiah they allow this!?

You could ask, how can a Christian worship a Rabbit that bestows food and fertility at the equinox and pagan rebirth. How is a bunny any different than a golden cow?

You could ask what a Christian has to celebrate - when their own faith has been so totally undermined with blasphemy and forbidden idolatry!

Maybe an atheist - believing that death IS death - celebrates life as more precious and unique.

I spent a summer living in Merida so I've been there a number of times. On the Spring and Autumn equinox, at the rising and setting of the sun, the corner of the structure casts a shadow in the shape of a plumed serpent - Kukulcan, or Quetzalcoatl - along the west side of the north staircase. On these two days, the shadows from the corner tiers slither down the northern side of the pyramid with the sun's movement to the serpent's head at the base. There are also 91 steps on each side and then the one platform at the top to account for the 365 days of the year (the fact that they knew this in the ~11th century is damn impressive).

They also built this 30 meter-tall pyramid without any load bearing animals, metal tools, pulleys, or the wheel.
