Louis opens new Macbook Air, immediately loses mind.

I'm an Apple hater. I hate its business practice, greed that's way above and beyond the norm, hubris, closed eco-system, terrible OS, dumb/outdated design (but marketed to shit as "intuitive/elegant") on and on I can go, but one thing I can't fairly hate is its hardware build and material.

I don't see much wrong (other than "not optimal") with the heat sink/fan distance here. The way the fins are aligned do allow air flow to direct to the fan. Takes a fraction of a second to generate the wind tunnel effect, and all the components between the fan & heatsink just need to be able to withstand the heat, and they surely do.

It's easy to see why they do it. That's "height". Apple want to make the Air as thin as possible, they can't do that by stacking 4 components together.

Mexico's Magical Fireflies

Yes, I agree mostly, but the only thing worse than eco-tourism is developers with no oversight. The public is shit, but at least there would be an outcry when someone "needed" the land for cattle or coffee.

Please don't tell anyone where this is. Let it be a secret. Let it be left alone to be magical and natural, even if no one is there to see it. Let there be one undisturbed wonder of the world. It doesn't need a YouTube channel; it doesn't need a million Instagram followers; it doesn't need to be shared a trillion times on Facebook -- the Fireflies are doing perfectly fine on their own.

Kurzgesagt - Is Organic Food Really Better or is It a Scam?

newtboy says...

Repeatedly, companies large and small have been caught passing conventionally grown vegetables as organic. When they get caught, they pay a fine that's far less than the profit they make, and then they move on with little notice.
Recently I read about a huge grain supplier (i think for general mills) that had been selling their conventional grain as organic for decades, so all the higher priced organic products made from it weren't actually organic, but there's no refund coming for customers.

This means store bought organic food is a Crap shoot at best.

If you want fresh, clean, eco friendly vegetables, grow your own. It's really the only way to be sure what you're getting.

Why isn't science enough?

bobknight33 says...

Depends on where you want to draw the line.
Some would call this racist, some would call this ECO Friendly policy.

If using an IQ as as standard of population control then you would have to wipe out all African and most of Arab nations. Then you would also need to do some elimination of South America nations.

The science is enough. People are fucking stupid and society needs to take active steps to stop people below the current average IQ from breeding.

Now some libtard will tell me that it's immoral, without even considering the morality of letting an entire race destroy itself by not acting.

Living Off the Grid in Paradise

nanrod says...

This is kind of annoying to me. The only grid this guy is living off of is the electrical grid. He's got guns and ammunition, vehicles, boats, internal combustion engines, gasoline, oil etc etc. Take away civilization and he will, of necessity, start to revert to pre industrial living fairly quickly. He's not some eco warrior or rugged individualist protecting nature, he's living off of everybody else's little corner of paradise.

Oregon Polar Bear Awakes to Snow. BLISS!

transmorpher says...

The problem is the actual live stock themselves. There are over 80 billion of them burping and farting methane as they grow each and every year. Methane traps 2500 percent more heat than c02. The other problem is land, water use, pollution etc (feces from 80 billion animals doesnt play well with the eco system).Tranport is a small fraction of the problem. Look up cowspiracy.com/facts

The problem isn't me eating bacon, the problem is that my bacon is produced intertnationally. It's the industrial globalisation of of our food that's causing the biggest problems. Why do I see south african strawberries and argentinian beef in my supermarket? I live in middle europe, strawberries and cows have an awesome time here. Because it's cheaper, it costs the corporations less money to ship their product around the globe than producing it locally. There are less regulastions to follow. The local farmer takes too much money for his cow and strawberries don't grow here in January. We can't have the customer pay a Euro or two more for for his steak. We can't have the customers wait until April for strawberries. We want it now and as cheaply as possible. That's why we eat more meat than ever, that's why my steak damages the environment more than ever.
Globalisation is a wonderful thing but it isn't without consequences.
