HARDCORE - First Person P.O.V. Film

hamsteralliance says...

I've been dreaming of a modern film shot entirely from a first person POV, but from the trailer, I don't think this one is the film I was hoping for. This is just Call of Duty and goofiness, like an extended FreddieW or Corridor Digital video.

The whole GoPro thing means nothing to me, I don't even own a Digital Video Camera. but for some reason, some people do take umbrage with how quickly they took over the market for action oriented personal video.
I find the scenario "interesting".

Planet of the Ladies flies by the Sun

No, I did not see the light bleed at the space center. I imagine what you're seeing (and I see it too in this video) could be the result of the digital video processing of the image, after the fact.>> ^messenger:

To be clear, you too noticed the background image of the sun coming through the planet Venus live at the Space Centre?>> ^Trancecoach:
I saw it with mine own eyes yesterday (at the Chabot Space Center in Oakland, CA).. It's not an effect.>> ^messenger:
If this is the real deal, then how come I can see the sun through the "planet"? Aren't planets opaque? Watch as "Venus" starts to cross in front of the sun, like at the 1:00 mark, for example. You can see the sun right through it. Same on almost every one. Sure this isn't a paper cut-out or a post-effect?

I certainly don't miss installing programs from a pile of floppy disks.

Or discs.

Not a fan of "disks"?

Are there such things as compact disks (CDs), digital video disks (DVDs), etc.?

Not sure why, but all the magnetic storage media, floppy or hard, have been called "disks", while optical media got "discs". The basic physical difference I see is that magnetic disks are usually encased in something rectangular. There's probably a historical fun fact on this somewhere.

Murphy's Law. A minute after the video stops a meteor hit the theater leveling it completely. The tape was recovered showing this, but it accidentally jammed up in the VCR while transferring to digital. The digital video, btw, carries a curse that will kill you by the end of the week.

Sorry.

Monkey Island theme over the years

Ahh yes, my favorite past time, midi music. I picked up my first cd rom drive and with it, the must have cd game of all time, 7th guest. 7th guest was a SVGA game (That sucker was 8 bit color! 256 colors and some how they pulled off transluscent digital video footage over the back ground) that used Midi for all its music. I discovered the game had an easter egg, the 2nd disc had a red book cd audio track of most of the games soundtrack played on the SCC1 roland board. After hearing just how good these midi files could sound, I quickly got into the world of PC Midi. I upgraded my SBpro to an SB16 multi cd, this monster not only supported the proprietory connector for my cdrom drive, but also an MPU expansion connector for a midi daughter board. The first daughter board I got was creatives wave blaster, but it was pretty weak. I figured out if I wanted a really good midi sound, I would need to plunk down some seriouse cash, and it would probably need to be from roland. So I picked up the roland SCD-15 (I still have that thing! but nothing to plug it into now) and while not quite as good as the dedicated SCC1, it was enjoyable. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJlkz6V0VOQ to hear how it sounded)

I picked up the SBlive as soon as it came out and proceeded to knock several megs of instruments into that sucker as well. I even put together a sound font called musica theoria (its hilarious when I google that now). My thirst for playing with midi music now is dried up now, but I have a sizeable collection of chip music, sound tracks from my fav gameboy/genesis/snes/ps1 (the entire final fantasy 7-9 series is chip music) so I can hark back on old memories of how music evolved over the decades.

People who Appreciate a Good User Experience Will Like the iPad (Blog Entry by dag)

What is the iPad?

Is it a computer? No. Technically, yes, but it's not a very good one. It's limited to what you can install on it, it doesn't have native inputs outside the 30-pin, and, hell, the browser doesn't even have Flash or give you an opportunity to install your own plugins.

Is it an eBook reading device? Of sorts, though the kindle is better on the eyes, has a longer battery life, has free 3G and the books from Amazon are five dollars cheaper on average. Kindle is also cheaper.

Is it a portable presentation tool? Maybe. I mean, it's certainly portable and small and light. The screen looks great, too, but you'll have to do all your presentations in Apple iWork instead of PowerPoint or Flash or whatever you're used to. It only docks vertically as the 30-pin is on the bottom of the device, so for horizontal presentations you will have to hold it.

Is it a digital photo frame? It only docks vertically so I hope you have only portraits. I hope you're also proud of yourself because you just paid five hundred bucks for a picture frame.

Is it a digital video player? The screen isn't widescreen. Fail.

Is it a large iPhone? No. The iPad doesn't make calls, silly.

Is it a large iPod Touch? Yes. Yes it is. It's a big fucking iPod Touch. Yay, Apple. You made a big fucking iPod Touch.

If they have their machines spread out enough that their customers have < 50ms round trips through the net ,then I don't see a problem. As long as they have graphics cards which can generate the HD data stream in the GPU and send it to some form of super fast (single digit ms turn around) digital video routing system the video lag should not be a problem. I have seen lag comparisons between CRT and LCD, and it is a hell of a lot more than 50ms.

I don't have a 5Mbps connection, so I don't really know how big their potential customer base is, as it is I could not even get 480i from their service with my DSL.

Paying for more then 1Mbps seems to me to just be subsidizing services like this. If I was inclined to use half a dozen or more such services then it might make sense, but as it stands I don't see paying $50 more per month just to have the option to pay for a service like this, that kind of money can buy me games and consoles pretty quickly.
