Pot Will Kill You

newtboy says...

Where I live, the first dispensary opened in 1999. There is never a line here.

We are in the process of trying to either move the cannabis cup from Amsterdam to Humboldt or starting a new international competition. It’s about time the emerald triangle gets recognition for decades of cultivating the highest quality most potent unadulterated marijuana grown in America, maybe the world.

The legal sale of adult-use marijuana began in New Jersey on April 21, 2022. I see up to 30 customers sometimes waiting in line to buy weed in my town in NJ.

I guess you're ignorant of the fact that all three networks have said clearly and repeatedly that they have ZERO evidence of these bat shit crazy, false, stupid, verifiably wrong claims by Trump and his sycophants.
Not
One
Word
Of
Evidence.
They've retracted their claims, but too late, and won't have these Trumptards on anymore because they have to spend the entire segment stopping them from speaking and talking over them with disclaimers stating they have no evidence at all to verify these claims.
We all await discovery, because this time NOT having proof, like every other case tossed out for lack of proof, will mean they're guilty.

You're right, there's still a .00000000001% chance Rudy is right and everyone else in the world is wrong....but it's more likely solid gold monkeys will fly out of people's assets and save the economy from the Trumpandemic economy.

Wait for the reply!? You've gotten the reply....it was a retraction by everyone but Rudy and Trump.

LMFAHS. Bob, you haven't made a claim in 5 years that wasn't a lie. Truth from the right is in extremely short supply, but you have a massive glut of lies. That happens when you follow a consummate and constant liar blindly. Well over 30000 lies from the oval office in one term is not just a record, it's a record by a factor of 100 or more.
He's the best at lying (which doesn't indicate his lies are good or believable, just that he's prolific), the best at crime (again, not the most successful, but more convictions than any three administrations combined), best at swamp cultivation (pardons for sale, ndas for all ex employees, loyalty tests, pardons for anyone who went to prison for him, totally allowed his cabinet members to be lobbyists for industries they regulated after swearing they couldn't ever, pardons for those who lied to the FBI, congress, courts, irs, charities...and he lied to all of them too.....and to you, daily.)

Thanks for the laugh. You're a good clown, Bob. Maybe take it up as a career.

Excellent,
Nothing says intimidation like 2.7 Billion.
This will bring discovery.

Each side gets a say.Just because 1 bring a suit doesn't necessarily mean it 100%true.
It could include a PR wording, intimation wording. The other side gets a say. Lets wait for the reply.

Lies are from the left also in great supply.

John Oliver - Felony Disenfranchisement

newtboy says...

In California, as I understand it, they are going to automatically reinstate all rights to those only convicted of felony marijuana possession/sale/cultivation now that it's legal.

The Epidemic of Passable Movies

artician says...

What he's talking about here is "cliche", but cliche's have themselves become so cliche, it's no longer effective to use that term to describe them.
This same phenomenon is found extremely widely in literature and music. I stumbled onto this following college, after being trained to have a critical eye for creative work, when I found myself hating everything that humans produced but not understanding why.
My personal theory is that 1) we've not yet learned to teach creators how to identify and cultivate truly unique ideas, and 2) the structure of our current systems for fostering creative work require said work to appeal fundamentally to the largest possible audience, which is easiest when a universal language (visual, auditory or written) exists.
We're trained to build on existing ideas, which is critical for success, but not how to reject established ideas and instead find new ones that are capable of maintaining familiarity, or communicating their core concepts without need of educating the audience.
It's an interesting evolution of process that I'm sure we can find in other areas of the human experience, beyond the field of creative media.

VideoSift is 10 (Fire Talk Post)

PlayhousePals says...

Holy Crapoleum ... at just 3+ years I'm feeling a tad bit noobster-ish after perusing the comments from above thus far!

Online since 1996, I'd had little of the 'social' aspect of the interwebs prior to learning about VideoSift. Most of the actively social interaction was on YT where we'd cultivated a tight knit [world wide] cat community [surprise!] that really felt like a family. There are still a few of us hanging in there but, as YT changed [heavy sigh], the thrill was gone [r.i.p. former yt AND bb king].

Yeah, some of you know it was a struggle here for me at first, but the charm and allure of something truly special ... and at precisely at the right time ... kept me motivated to carve a place here. [Lucky YOU!]. I've honestly been impressed [and dismayed but secretly amused] with the quality and diversity of those who've participated in the last 10 years of obvious success sooo ... Congratulations are due @dag and @lucky760. As I've always said, wish I'd known about you sooner. And I do so appreciate you having me.

In conclusion Sifters, you're my kind of people ... and I "know" people as, in my mind, I'm quite discerning [except perhaps when it comes to some videos submitted for your consideration ... ummm, how do you like me so far?] And I sincerely appreciate [Eric] so many of you for exposing me to an array of great sites/sights that I surely would never have encountered. You've broadened my horizons beyond words ... which reminds me ... time for my 'medibles'!

Love you all ... whether you like it or not ... you're stuck with me.

Making a Sling-Primitive Technology

Stormsinger says...

I'm thinking that if one were stranded in such a forest, your time and energy might be better spent in hiking out, or maybe in finding and cultivating edible plants. Given his hit ratio, he'd be going hungry most days.

Liana Kerzner - An Honest Look At Women in Games

GenjiKilpatrick says...

It's a five part essay series, so it cover quite a bit.

This first part is the intro of course, so yes it sorta drags.

I strongly encourage you to listen/read all five parts.

She talks about stuff like:

- How hypersexualization of males in games is completely ignored.

- Cultivation Theory - and how's it be misrepresented to correlate and/or assert hypersexualization with an increase in misogyny/rapist behavior.

[When in fact, the theory states that an audience would simply perceive the world as more sexualized than it really is.]

- The difficulties she's faced in being taken seriously as a female games journalist for over a decade..

- And how it's bullshit that youtube sensationalism allows less legitimate & disreputable "journalists"..

to drown out the voices of much better, tempered analysis/commentary.

I listened to the entire series while playing Age of Wonder 3.

w00t! woot! go games! Have fun!

Shepppard said:

So, basically, she's not actually talking about how video games need to be more feminist oriented, but rather is more ranting about a website / domain called "Feminist Frequency" that is effectively a group of the college grade "MEN ARE EVIL PIGS" feminists, but hey grew up playing video games.

Actually not a bad read, although it drags in a few places.

Old School Shoe Repair

nock says...

Well, for example, I went to a "shoe repair" guy when my soles needed replacement and the guy said he could repair them. When I picked them up they were horrible, the stitching was all off. The sole wasn't replaced. Basically old school is an art that is cultivated over years and decades of training and apprenticeship.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: The Lottery

PHJF says...

Coincidentally, North Carolina also has a state-run monopoly on its liquor sales, and NC average teacher salaries have declined by fifteen percent over the past decade.

If I were cynical, I might even say NC is deliberately cultivating stupid people as a resource.

10 Hours Of Walking In LA As A Woman

newtboy says...

Just wrong. Comedy is comedy, not prejudice. Wearing drag is not the same as wearing black face in a civil rights rally. That's patently ridiculous. He insulted no one.
You and Trance really need to cultivate a sense of humor. Your lack of understanding jokes is only hurting you.

rancor said:

Technically, none of this changes Trance's point, whether the video was comedy or not. One might even say the video author himself is the one guilty of prejudice. Extreme example warning: what if he did this stunt wearing blackface during the civil rights movement? "It's just a joke" is rarely a good excuse.

Obesity PSA - Obesity doesn't happen overnight

lucky760 says...

Heheh. At this point I feel confident they won't become candyholics whenever they first taste it because we're effectively cultivating a preference for savory over sweet.

Yep, they have no idea what juice is; they only drink milk and water. They only know that candy is the stuff they pick up and play with at the store, but they put it back before we check out; they know it has lots of sugar and will give them cavities (but they don't actually know the word "candy"). They only know what an ice cream cone is from books and TV, but they've never seen one in person.

Whenever we do give them something very sweet, such as fresh fruit or a taste of our frozen yogurt, they often won't eat it complaining that it's too sweet (just like they are).

@MichaelL
Actually, fat people seem to be one of the few groups these days that can still be made fun of. Shame can be useful but shaming someone who's overeating because of depression or has a poor self image will not help them, it will only make them worse.

@lucky760
Your kids have never had any juice or candy or ice cream before? I can respect your desire for healthy kids, but, wow! I hope it doesn't backfire and they wind up like Rigel from Farscape when they encounter candy for the first time.

Neil deGrasse Tyson on genetically modified food

SquidCap says...

The only problem i have with GM food is that the cultivation process on foods we eat now has happened over decades and millenia. GM allow shortcuts and we have no idea how those shortcuts affect nature. Or us when new substances are being inserted like pesticide resistance. When it happens slowly, there is more time to notice the downsides of those new traits. Other than that, it just the same process that happens in nature, we are the animals that eat the plant and are essential to it's propagation, nature doesn't care how.

Crime Stoppers' Richard Masten eats tipster's info

newtboy says...

Good for him for keeping his word, but it's going to cost him in the end. This guy does NOT want to be in jail. I'm wondering if this act just ended a prosecution of an actual criminal though.
If the judge insisted on having the information, there was likely a reason for that...perhaps the 'tipster' was a cop himself? Perhaps it was impossible that the 'tipster' actually had the information they gave? I can think of many reasons why the 'tip' needed to be investigated, especially if it was the reason for a warrant or other police actions.
For example...in the 70's, a family member was arrested for marijuana cultivation in Texas based on a 'tip'. It turned out the tipster was a neighbor that had no real knowledge of the grow, only assumption, but the cops were so stupid they didn't get a warrant and my family member was released. If they had not been able to investigate the 'tipster', the BS the cops claimed, that they were allowed to enter the property because of (well, I can't recall the actual reason they gave, I was only about 7, but they gave one that was BS) may have been believed...only the record of the actual 'tip' proved them to be bold faced liars in court.

14 year old girl schools ignorant tv host

chingalera says...

@Sotto_The issue is the power and influence one corporation has over the world's food supply and those who would use their influence in the Department of Agriculture and the Supreme court to implement sweeping legislation or hinder the free will of the small, medium, large or other farmers who would have nothing to do with Monsanto's seeds or who wish only to use sumbunall of their products, not whether a farmer is given their rice for free in an ethical fashion to grow some proprietary rice (ever try to grow rice? S'pretty dependent on climate and seasons, rainfall and other environmental conditions, not to mention the hectares it requires to cultivate) as opposed to say leafy greens of all kinds, sweet potatoes, squash, all of which are much more easily cultivated AND, have shorter seed to fruit times as well as requiring much less space AND, are chock-full of Vitamin A.
We don't even mention here Paprika, Red Pepper, Cayenne, Chili Powder, which are WAY higher in Vitamin A and pretty much grow like weeds when cultivated by morons.

Shaky and hollow point your study cited as well, to support what is obviously a fishy prospect providing this option to poorer countries when you consider the back-door dealing that a corporation like M practices and their track-record of driving small farmers out of business with endless litigation and an army of lah-yahs, investigators, all petty thugs and criminals on their payroll.

A no-brainer? Yeah, if you spout the party-line and din't use your brain but instead cited an "official' study from a 'recognized', 'expert's' journal.

Again, loaded language in your closing with the assumption that most opponents and vocal activists of GMO crops are science deniers. Broad, brush-strokes my friend.
Labels.

I for one want these motherfucker's labs under extreme scrutiny and their science tested and re-tested by those not on their payrolls or whose interests do not include stocks in their concerns. I also want heirloom seeds, regardless of yields, whose fruits produce fertile seeds.

MOST GMO crop's fruited seeds are as sterile as your argument, the genetic markers tweaked similarly to insure that the market on common-sense and centuries-honored methods be cornered and rendered inadequate.
