Why you shouldn't lift weights

NordlichReiter says...

what was that 375?

Judging by his wrestling shoes, and the grip he was taking he dead lifting noob.

You hold one over hand grip and one underhand grip, and you lift with your legs. He should have started from a squat position. The reason these power lifters get so pumped is to tap into their cortisol stores thus amplifying their potential lift weight to 80% of their maximum power.

Good technique below:

Good Technique can lead to this if you so like: He has that thing stuck in his nose to stop him from bleeding. When I was lifting they called it a bleeder. It's caused by the rise in blood pressure common to weightlifters who hold their breath when lifting. That is why you exhale when the lift is executed. Stimulants can cause the noise bleeds too.

TDS: 5/14/2009 - Obama garden = abortion trees?

nadabu says...

Yes, time is money (to a degree), but gardening is also outdoor activity. So, every hour spent gardening also means more natural Vitamin D, more exercise and broader immune system exposure. There are psychological benefits as well. Making all of these habitual (even if only seasonally) offers great long term health benefits, which is worth a hell of a lot of money. It's foolish to think that fresh food is the only economic benefit to growing some of your own food.

Again, though, moderation is crucial. If you expend all sorts of energy and cortisol worrying about pesticides and how to afford a more "organic" diet, then you aren't doing yourself a lick of good. Relax, and don't put all your eggs in one basket: grow some food yourself, try to support local farmers often (for cost, health and the local economic boost), but do NOT fret about buying mass-produced food too. Both are very important to having a healthy, secure and efficient food industry in our modern society. We would be unwise to concentrate production too much (as is the current trend), but producing everything local and organic is only efficient and environmentally sound in a few areas of the world.

George Carlin: It's Make Believe!!!

E_Nygma says...

the most common medication associated with a moon face is cortisol, a steroid, which carlin would have really no reason to take for a heart problem. it is the result of fat redistribution, not water retention. he is most likely on blood thinners or diuretics to prevent clots and decrease the load on the heart (which would actually serve to increase water loss), neither of which should cause weight gain. i'm gonna go with "he's getting old" and his metabolism is slowing, or the embed video is distorted

>> ^Trancecoach:
This is from Saturday, March 1, 2008. & No, he hasn't gained any weight. He's on heart medication (7 or so heart attacks'll require that) which causes a "moon-face" (retaining water). And thank goodness the man is still with us. He is an amazing voice of reason in these days of turmoil. Upvote for the greatest living philosopher of our age!
