Empire of the Ants - Reveal Teaser | PS5 Games

ant says...

Yeah, I saw that a few weeks ago. I was surprised Microids was doing another Empire of the Ants like they did in Y2K. It was pretty back then, but boring. I'd rather replay SimAnts. Maybe this one will be better. Also, I don't do consoles.

The Rise and Fall of BioShock

newtboy says...

I wish they would upgrade it for the current console generation. I would play it again. Good times, good, but damp times.

Sorry @ant, I loved bioshock, but that’s too long a video for a tour down the digital lane.

Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex

cloudballoon says...

The visuals would be trashed by a video gamer players if this is served as an in-game footage in 2022 on PC/consoles. I feel only Gozilla's rendering and movements felt natural. Everything else is pretty bad and unexciting. The city... I think even Microsft Flight Simulator got better models and more "lived-in" than this. Need more realistic filters and more sirens/screaming BGN at the minimum.

Scrap Metal Impales Windshield From Other side of Highway

jimnms says...

I had something similar happen, except the piece of metal came through the windshield and impaled itself in the center console. If I didn't swerve left when I saw it coming...

What Are You Doing With Your Life? The Tail End

StukaFox says...

I don't often say this, but fuck this video.

If you're 25, the end of your life is an abstraction and the whole "there's time to change things!" is a nice balm. When you're 55, your death isn't an abstraction, it's a fact of life that dominates more and more of what remaining time you have left. The awareness of impending mortality is insidious once you're passed 50. It creeps into every part of your life and every decision you make.

Let me teach you one of those amazing words the Germans come up with for describing various forms of existential agony: weltschmerz. Loosely, this is a form of sadness when one realizes what is versus what could have been. This is the compound interest of regrets and choices not made, or made poorly. Not only does weltschmerz grow with each year, its very presence amplifies itself because the more you know what could have been, the more you see what the cost of that absence is. Then, if that's not evil enough, that knowledge focuses the mind on the time remaining and how little you can do to negate the harm done, which then re-amplifies the weltschmerz.

You can slap whatever Hallmark bullshit you need on this to get through the day, but weltscmerz never goes away. It's always there. It's there at 3:00am when you wake up in a silent house and look at everything around you as consolation prizes for races not won. It's there when you see your friends succeeding in a million different ways that you didn't. It's there when you look at 6 million lines of text you wrote and realize you're not going to be Hemingway after all.

So fuck this video. I don't need a cutesy animated memento mori, I've already got a wall clock in my death row cell.

Here endth the rant.

(Nick Drake nailed weltschmerz perfectly in "When The Day Is Done". Here's the video to that song:

Cyberjank 2077

wtfcaniuse says...

When people forget every other buggy game they ever played including Witcher 3 on console. The eyes in the game are customizable (did he skip character creation options?).

Yes it was buggy AF at launch. Most games are, especially massive complex games, 1.03 fixed a lot of bugs, so did 1.04. Even massive big budget releases like RDR2 had game breaking bugs, scripting fails, AI fails, etc.

Doesn't help that they had to try and make it run on console hardware that is well below minimum PC specs.

Cyberpunk 2077 Visual Tech Tour - The Maxed Out Next-Gen PC

wtfcaniuse says...

Looks like arse on your PS5 because you're playing the PS4 version. "Nextgen" console version is coming out next year.

robdot said:

This looks like ass on my ps5. The difference between this and demon souls is jarring. It looks and plays like fallout 76. If you don't have a high end pc, don't bother until next gen upgrade.

As a kid:

- C64 BASIC interpreter
- Pascal

As a teenager/student/intern:

- Perl scripts
- Java
- x86 ASM
- C

20 years later, in video game development:

- C++ (/14, /17) for PC and console game clients
- HLSL for GPU shaders
- Python for support scripts and build systems
- Typescript/JavaScript for web client games
- C# for Unity games

Not me, but some of our backend server guys even use Go.

Dendy: Russia's Fake Nintendo Console

moonsammy says...

Ehh... the first part of the video is solid, talking about the history of the Dendy. Cool. But he claims towards the beginning that he "bought one specifically for this video," and that's clearly not the case. All he gets is a generic emulator console that has Dendy and Genesis games. I'd have been way more interested in what an actual Dendy was like to use, and how it compares to an NES or Famicom.

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time | Retrospective Review

Mordhaus says...

I loved the first one. The sequel had a game breaking save bug that could happen at any time and you wouldn't even know it was corrupt until you reached the endgame. They never bothered fixing it because it was on console.

Sonic The Hedgehog (2019)

spawnflagger says...

"Every Hero... Has a Genesis"
really? gotta reference the console that Sonic came out on?

Jim Carrey must be doing a cash grab for this one.
I don't see how it could be worse than Super Mario Brothers, at least.

Things about Relationships I wish someone told me about

newtboy says...

I found it interesting how it started by describing a significant other pointing out your friends foibles as intentionally controlling and isolating you, then later suggests that you looking for these foibles and isolating yourself is a positive move. Telling someone to isolate themselves is controlling, telling them you notice and object to others disrespecting or abusing you may be consoling.

I also found it telling that the suggestions are "end it....or try to communicate", in that order. Sounded amazingly backward.
I feel like the writer has had a long string of toxic relationships and no healthy ones.

I've been with my wife since 92, married her in 98, we are the only people in either of our extended families still on our first marriage, so I do have some small experience with maintaining a healthy relationship.

Snarky Puppy - Lingus

Sagemind says...

They are in the recording studio, everything is going trough the mics. This is a live recording performance.

Found this description for you.

"It's recorded in live conditions but I guess guitars , keyboards use no amps but are directly plugged to the recording console. So the audience couldn't benefit of the full mix without headphones. They'd hear only acoustic instrument and no amplified ones."

Mortal Kombat and the Cheat Code That Changed Gaming Codex

lucky760 says...

This is great timing for me, as I just watched the full series on Netflix of the anime Hi Score Girl. I highly recommend it. Very fun show all about growing up playing video games (arcade and console) in the early 90s with tons of actual gameplay footage.

Dashcam Video Of Alabama Cop Who Shot Man Holding His Wallet

Mordhaus says...

I always thought they had at least some first aid training. Why the fuck are they not helping him, at least with stopping the bleeding?

Better we console the idiot officer instead off camera.
