Rage Against the Machine RNC - 09.02.08 (Speech + Acapella)

thinker247 says...

Personally, I don't give a shit either way. I can advocate violence without moving from my seat, because I'm not advocating anything for myself. I'm merely suggesting a better alternative for those in this video who are willing to stand up and do something to fight against their "oppressors." I'm offering a solution that doesn't involve standing in front of a group of musicians and chanting along with whatever they say. I love Rage Against the Machine, but when the crowd mimics their every word like a bunch of lemmings, it bothers me. Because they're not really doing anything. I'll bet you that most of those people didn't change a goddamned thing that day. But they all went home and said, "I listened to RATM live and a cappella!"

I could transfer a message to millions of people by shooting a bunch of people in a McDonald's. Within minutes, every 24-hour news station would be focused on Boise, Idaho, and my "message" would be sent to millions around the world. But that wouldn't mean they couldn't change the channel a second later and shrug their shoulders, saying to themselves, "Another one? Wow. Oh well, time for my coffee break!" So it's not transferring a message that is important; it's how the action of that message is activated. But what does it matter if that message is sent to millions of people who turn the channel to Spongebob Squarepants? That's what millions do every day, and that's what our President does, because he loves Spongebob.

So I sit at home and quietly wait for the government to eventually destroy everything for which our predecessors worked so hard. Does it bother me? Yes, to an extent. But I know that in the end I really don't care that much either way. I'm a bit of a pessimist and an apathetic figure, if you must know. But at least I'm honest. I'd really hate myself if I advocated violence and then sat at home, hoping someone else would do it for me. But that's not me. Oh, time for my coffee break.

>> ^MINK:
weird how people write pathetic internet comments about how there should be an armed revolution, while sitting on their asses.
you're just embarassed here by someone actually doing something, actually transferring their message to millions of people... because you personally don't do shit.

Thanks, bakalex! I owe you big time. If you want me to save a video of yours some time, just let me know.

Ok. Here it is. It's a simple translation, not an adaptation to english language. So, don't expect me to do it well or with rime.

"To start my pretty day well,
and to wake up,
Me, I've took a coffee.

An 'Arabica', dark and tasty.
I put my trench coat on.
Here I am. I can go.

'Where are you going ?'
says my loving one,
'Let's take a coffee, I've just woke up'
(In fact, she says 'Kawa', a french slang word for coffee)

As I was not late, and being obliged,
I go backward,
And take a coffee.

At quarter to eight, I must admit,
The offices are empty,
We can be bored.

But I stay calm, I'm able to adapt,
Before they (my coworkers) arrive,
I've the time to take coffee.

The day is running, Everybody can work,
at least up to the time
of the coffee break.

My secretary comes in : 'It's tough, As you like it'
Damn, I've just take one,
But as it has been done ...

A business lunch, near "Le sentier",
There's a beautiful (superb) weather,
But I feel anxious.
('Le Sentier' is a set of Paris streets, known to be the place of some rich shops, business center etc.)

My coworkers laugh : 'You're the guy Renée !,
Take a good cigar !',
and a good coffee.

As the day is over, my coworkers are tired,
they call a taxi,
But I just want to jump.
(Here, the singer starts to be hysteric)

I walk across the whole Paris, I see a bar,
(Dunno the slang for 'bar' or 'pub', as the song says 'troquet' in french)
I ask for a 'deca',
(Dunno if it's the same for you, but here, 'Deca' is slang for 'Decaffeinated coffee')
But with caffeine.

(Co-workers choral)

(He goes mental by know)

As I arrive to my office, My secretary says :
'You're a little late,
I've been worried'.

I throw here through the window, she means it !
Well, I must go home,
But before, A Coffee !

As I walk to subway, Someone attacks me :
An old woman asks me 'What time is it please ?'
I rip her head off, and push her on the tracks,
I come back to my place and make a
'guess-what'.

'Daddy ! My daddy ! In school I am the best !'
WHAT WHAT ? WHY DO YOU PISS ME OFF ?
WHAT A FUCKING DUMB CHILD ! HE'S GOING TO CRY !
I lock me in the kitchen,
Just to make a coffee !

By now, it's been some days I've locked myself,
Alone in my kitchen,
And I drink coffee.

It should be good to sleep, the cops will catch me.
So I nail the door,
and I take more coffee.
(... 'nail the door' ? Is that the right expression ? But at least, it's what it means.)
