This as Ford and Chrysler are hiring tens of thousands of union workers to build their electric fleets.
Not the best news for stockholders.

I used what we called a semi-hemi cut on my racing VW motor. It was pretty close to the Chrysler picture at the end of the wiki page. It's a 1776cc, but I was repeatedly accused of it being a 2180 because of the power it put out. Just a little milling improved the flow immensely.

There weren't Jeeps here until 1994 when Chrysler returned to Australia, before that I think there were only a few antique Willys Jeeps (actually Jimbo's big bag'o'trivia says they were still making them until the 1980s, but I don't ever remember seeing a new one and can't confirm it).

Our consumer protection laws are generally stronger than in the U.S., but I do see the point of a lemon law, particularly since cars are so much more expensive here.

I don't think Jeeps ever had AMC branding here, before Chrysler bought AMC they were just Jeep, but like he says there are plenty of other reliable choices he could've made (Toyota Hilux for instance, Top Gear proved that the old ones were virtually indestructable).

Having worked at Walmart doing oil changes, and another tire/lube place, I wouldn't say it's super easy to do on your own, especially with newer cars. Most newer cars have a a large skid plate that is a pain in the ass to remove. Ford makes their especially difficult as the skid plate is full, so if you are working in a pit, it's very hard to get to all the screws (usually Torx bits)... Many others are using skid plates under the car too, though many have access panels to the drain plug area and the oil filter area (oddly enough one of them, I think it was Mazda, had an access panel for the oil filter, but it was flipped as if installed backwards, but then the drain plug panel wouldn't be correct, so very odd design for awhile)... Sadly most of them seem to be moving to full skid plates as well. My favorites were the GM Ecotech type, where it has a canister filter near the top, drain the oil, open the canister (tool is cheap enough too), close the drain, replace the filter, tighten everything up and add 5 qts (though one of them took a slightly different amount).

That said, if you don't mind crawling under the car on a ramp, it isn't overly difficult. It is a very simple process.

I've learned from working those places. Ford's full skid plates suck, and sadly they seem to be joined by others. (Skid plate is apparently required for proper cooling, and I'd guess it also helps improve gas millage). Chrysler tends to strip, both the pan and the nut... Chrysler also has a long standing problem with lug and lug nuts.... GMs are okay for that sort of stuff (oil, tires, etc)... I didn't like doing tires on European cars as they use that odd lug stud instead of a lug/nut combo, which makes for a pain in the ass to remove and put the wheel back on the car (I can't imagine having to do that in the rain or snow on the side of the road, lug/nut combos makes so much more sense). Toyota can be a pain in the ass as they are moving to a thing that requires a very special custom cup to remove the filter housing...

EDIT to add: I also didn't know anything when I first started at Walmart... the advantage there over the other place was no upselling other services. Now if a car required Synthetic (newer GMs a few Toyotas mostly) then we would have to sell that oil change rather than the cheaper one for liability reasons, but we didn't check all the other stuff and didn't care... now if we say something dangerous we'd let the owner know, but otherwise... Now the other place we did check the other fluids and the managers would try to upsell services.

In the associated article, they mention plenty of vehicles are vunerable, including Cadillac and Infiniti. Though they do focus on Chrysler's Uconnect.

no, it's the opposite of instagram. it's using very old, esoteric, and volatile materials and experimenting to discover results. instagram deals with known methods and known and [only] repeatable results that imitate cheap film cameras from the 60s and 70s. this is an expensive camera, probably hard to find and expensive film, which may or may not work, giving completely unknown results. saying this is just like instagram is like saying that a PT cruiser is just like chrysler airflow or that a van gogh poster is just like the original painting: you're confusing the cheap imitation for the original. it's exactly like confusing a low res, digital instagram shot with an extremely high res, large format, film photo done with 100 year old camera.

saying this is "making a picture look bad misses the point entire" in fact, misses the point entirely. it misses the point of art, it misses the point of experimentation, and it's an extremely narrow and purely utilitarian understanding of a rarely utilitarian process.

also, maybe you should check out the whole story before dismissing this as being part of a cheap "fad".

OK, Chrysler went bankrupt and had to be bought out to survive - I may be corrected (and that's fine) but my point has still been made. Obama didn't make them go bankrupt (he kept people employed) - Obama did what he could to stop them from dissolving altogether. He could have done nothing and watched every Chrysler employee loose their jobs, from the factories, to the mechanics to the sales teams, to all the little companies that manufacture parts.

A few years back, we had a factory in my town as well. White Western Star. They manufactured diesel trucks and they were the largest employer in town.

They were bought out by Freightliner (a US company - a foreign company) a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks, (A German company - also a foreign company).

The factory was shut down when Freightliner acquired them. Putting half the town out of business that catered parts and services to the factory. Times were tough and we are still recovering.

My point is, I know how it could have gone in the US and on a much larger scale. Obama didn't let this happen. But Romney is making it look like Obama was the one at fault here - which is pure lies.
