Trump and Melania Trump test positive for Covid-19

BSR says...

Ya know it's got to be killing him. No TV appearances, no golfing, no rallies, no chopper talks...

That will be the torture he will have to endure.

Better to be hurt on the ground than die in the air.

That's an odd finding. On the video, it looks like the incoming pilot landed on an apron between two pads. Even if the departing helicopter was centered, that's still awfully close. Sudden gust of wind and it might have happened anyway.

Edit: Ok, I see how the layout is.

Seems a screwy setup, to be honest. I note the satellite image shows a chopper parked even worse than the first one in the video.

They didn't place all of the blame on the landing pilot, a significant contributing factor was the second helicopter being out of position. That might not have mattered on another day but the landing pilot didn't have good visibility.

Turkish T129 ATAK helicopters conducting a drill

Yeah if that tyrannical government lines up a few choppers to shoot at a cluster of dissidents standing in the open. Rather silly statement for a completely unrealistic scenario, like saying you need an AR15 to defend against a tyrannical government.

Excellent demonstration of how your AR-15 won't protect you from a tyrannical government for even one second.

Don't Rear End Minivan Drivers in Dallas, TX

Briguy1960 says...

These people/trolls stating the kid faked it must police all the new videos and tell us what really is happening cause obviously the chopper news reporters were fake newsers (TM) thus not making him "the" story although the Bugs Bunny comment was hilarious.

Do you know the way to the Airfield?

The Coast Guard saves an SUV Driver

SFOGuy says...

After I read "The Perfect Storm", I sort of wondered how the Coast Guard feels about rescuing people who have rather imperfectly exercised their judgement and gotten themselves into a pretty bad situation. Of course, in that book, a chopper goes down trying to rescue a not very clever sailboat owner who has set sail into the face of the storm (they oddly survive). And I guess the answer is: the rescue crews just don't think about it that way at all. They are there to rescue people; so they just try. It might sort of drive me crazy.

What seals this guys idiocy for me is when he gets out of the truck and casually leans against the wall. If the water is pushing your 4000#+ vehicle around, why would you get out and stand between it and a concrete wall! That guy could have very easily got himself crushed.

Helicopter Takes Out Row Of Portaloos

SFOGuy says...

This, weirdly, illustrates why rescue services (e.g. the Coastguard) will ask how many people the potential rescue might involve. Assuming the trouble is within the range of a smaller bird, they'll want to dispatch the smallest, most efficient helicopter for the lift, because the downwash of a big chopper's rotors does...well, this to the folks needing rescuing.

Hella Pursuit, Ditches Coat, Gets Away from Cops

It's a known thing among women in business meetings. She says something, convo continues, man in room repeats it, gets the credit.

Happens so much, it makes the list of top most annoying things about being a woman in a business meeting.

Interesting point about generational norms. It would be very very cool if this kind of nonsense comes to an end. [Edit -- now that I re-read your comment, I see you were making a different point. Which actually reinforces the "woman in the business meeting" meme. A younger man doesn't have status, all women don't have status. Yep. Sexism.]

I wondered about the helicopter reporter -- I got the feeling that he thought he was being congratulated on tracking the guy down and working so well with the pilot. I could be wrong, it was very subtle the miscue. He was justifiably proud of their work in the chopper -- somehow I got the feeling he was expecting THAT compliment, not something that had had happened ten minutes in the past.

Very well pointed out.

I don't know if it's sexism; do you think the same thing would have happened if his co-anchor was a younger guy?

Shame on the helicopter reporter for not redirecting credit. That said, I don't know how many of us are evolved enough to redirect the credit to where it is due.

Kansas City police helicopter autorotates like a boss

SFOGuy says...

That would be AWESOME if he was. But in actuality---because of the tail rotor still spinning and then how the main rotor blades droop as they slow down (at just about the right height-with no visual profile end o- to chop someone driving a semi or a bus in half)---the entire helicopter is a rotating engine of death until everything comes to a halt...
Thus, the duck and run of people getting out from a chopper. And not duck and run towards the tail rotor specifically.
