Alec Baldwin Interview ABC Body Language Analysis

JiggaJonson says...

i really don't care for this odd assumption-based analysis

When my grandfather died of a heart attack at 89, i was in another state. At the funeral, talking to people, I was a brick wall of emotion. Nothing in or out.

When i went home I started weeping. It occured to me later, "good thing im not a murder suspect."

"he showed almost no emotion at the funeral."
"Just very cold and unfriendly"
"he's hiding something.
"She used to light up the room!"

like, body language is NOT a reliable indicator of truth

Unfriendly Wild Pheasant

newtboy jokingly says...

Reminds me of the Ameglian Major Cow (from Restaurant at the end of the Universe) only without the vocal skills to say clearly that it wants to be killed and eaten so it's resorted to body language.

Full Frontal - The Green New Deal

Trump and Kim friends forever.

TheFreak says...

Kim did the power move on Trump and placed his hand on his back to escort him out. For someone who works so hard at showing dominance through body language, I'm unimpressed that he let that happen.

Aikido - Hiromi Matsuoka

transmorpher says...

Fighting on the street isn't even comparable to MMA. Not to take away from the hardness of any MMA fighter, but MMA is a sport. There are rules, and it's a safe environment (as safe as can be considering what happens in the octagon). You don't have to worry about the other guy poking your eye out or biting you, you probably won't die, etc.

The best thing for self defense is to be able to identify a dangerous situation, and get away from it using any means necessary, before it escalates. Getting into your car and driving away is the best thing you can do.

The other part of it is not looking like a victim, it's a body language thing.

And in these cases, Aikido is as good as any other martial art.

Having said that I'd still love to see someone use Aikido in an MMA match just for entertainment, because the only videos I've ever seen are ones like this, where the partner is going with the flow to avoid injury.

Actually now that I think about it, are you allowed to dislocate/break joints in MMA? Because the damage is likely to be permanent.

Drachen_Jager said:

Yeah, @ChaosEngine that's true, but it still doesn't work in real life.

Nobody uses Akido in MMA.

Stephen Fry Explains Why Some Believe Everything Trump Says

Drachen_Jager says...

Did you see Donnie and Melania on the Tarmac in Israel?

He reaches back to take her hand, she slaps his hand away.

Take from that what you will, but I read her body language as, "Don't you dare f*%$ing touch me."

he's gone bankrupt 5 times and no American bank will loan money to him; there's no proof that he isn't extremely under water; his continued self-inflicted missteps as president make me think that he is very dumb; all of his failed marriages are another example of him being a failure

quentin tarrantino on original non-linear narrative

Khufu says...

Interesting, I thought it sounded better the way he described. I love movies where I don't know what's going on and have to piece it together with bits of body language and dialogue. But it only works if you trust that it's not a mistake, like he says... Can someone cut the movie this way so we can check if he's right?

newtboy said:

Wow, I'm glad they switched it up. The original sounds terribly convoluted and confusing. I hate movies that jump back and forth in time to try to make you curious about what's happening, when really you're just confused having not been given enough information to have a clue about what you're seeing. I also hate the idea of knowing everything that's coming but the characters are completely in the dark. That's not a good movie in my eyes, but True Romance was excellent.
As made, it's my wife's favorite movie, and in my top 5.

David Blaine Shocks Jimmy and The Roots with Magic Tricks

poolcleaner says...

So he messed up the first trick but Jimmy didn't out him? Am I reading the body language properly? Jimmy seems to give him some shit on the second trick "nice trick". If that is correct, perhaps it was intentional to lure him into a false sense of security?

I could be wrong but I feel like he didn't get a correct read on the cards he picked.

RNC declares that coal is Clean

TheFreak says...

Every one of those mother fuckers knows it's bullshit. Look at their faces and body language. They've painted themselves into a corner again and they just have to pretend nothing's wrong and hope that no ones stands up and points out that they're spewing shit out of their mouths.

Elevator's Revenge-Instant Karma

artician jokingly says...

But you didn't hear what that elevator said to him...

Also, look at the form on that kick. That guy's fought a few doors in his day.

Also... something about that kids body language immediately after it happens just seems to say "... again?"

Say Cheese

artician says...

I feel like the woman's body language/movement was prompting the dogs response, and I wonder if it was as benign as it looks at first.

Bengal kitty is barely Husky tolerant

NirnRoot says...

What we have here is a translation issue: a clear example of how cats and dogs simply do not understand each other's body language.

The dog starts by trying to determine where he stands in the pack hierarchy with regards to the cat, albeit with all his aggressiveness tempered by the humans standing around him and showing some favoritism (or at least protection towards) the cat. When the cat refuses to react in a predictable dog-like manner, the dog takes the cat's glowering stare to mean the cat is the alpha and goes into full submissive mode... and when that doesn't work, he whines in confusion.

Meanwhile, the cat sees all this as the stalking of a potentially hostile carnivore who is significantly larger than it, and has ears back, eyes wide and is ready to swat at its opponent if this strange creature becomes to aggressive.

It's not that cats and dogs dislike each other: they just don't speak the same language. Eventually, the housemates will probably work out a sort of patios between them (more on the part of the dog than the cat) and will come to a more comfortable understanding.

It's not that the cat doesn't want to play; he simply doesn't understand that the dog is making an invitation.

Dog desperate for forgiveness

Payback says...

I know it's cute and all, but the dog merely understands the guy's upset, and he's doing the thing that usually gets the "d'aw, I'm not upset anymore" reaction. Dogs are said to have no concept of causality (I'm angry now because of what you did back then.) and in my experience it's true.

Dogs either pick up on your tone and body language, or they suffer from expectation of punishment. Bawling them out for something they are not -that second- doing is useless and approaching abuse in my view.

The dog acting sad because the garbage is strewn around the kitchen is not feeling guilty. He knows that when garbage is strewn around the kitchen, he's going to catch shit. The fact he did it is meaningless to him. The only way to get him to understand to stay out of the garbage is to catch him in the act and get medieval on his buttocks.

Service dog alerts to self harm (Aspergers)

ulysses1904 says...

Understood. And it is upsetting to watch and comforting to see the dog's reaction. But on the other hand this is the first I'm reading that self-abuse, depressive episodes and panic attacks are now included in Aspergers, so I question the accuracy of the video's title. Or else I have been skimming the subject all this time, which is entirely possible.

I always read about it being socially inept, not being able to interpret facial reactions and body language of others, retaining reams of trivial data in memory (serial numbers, license plates), sitting awkwardly, being committed to certain routines, in general being smart and odd, etc.

People seem to cherry pick some aspect and now they have a "touch" of Aspergers, or they are now an "Aspie" just like their favorite character on "Big Bang Theory".

Payback said:

I somewhat agree, although from what I've been led to believe, this type of attack builds up somewhat slowly. The person knows it's going to happen and can't do a damn thing about it.
