King of Bain: "When Mitt Romney Came To Town"

bareboards2 says...

Article about this whole thing....

Excerpt:

The film’s producer, Barry Bennett, a former consultant to a super PAC that supports Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, said he came up with the idea himself.

Mr. Bennett said he had bought an “opposition research book” on Mr. Romney compiled by the staff of a Republican rival during the 2008 campaign and had found its contents “stunning.”

“David Axelrod,” he said, referring to Mr. Obama’s strategist, “is going to have a heyday with this, and Republicans need to know this story before we nominate this guy.”

The commentary and downvotes are well within the spirit of the channel. The description reads....

"Commercial Sift
by looris

Commercials, advertisements, and everything about someone trying to gain money, to sell crap, to get discounts, to promote things, and so on.

Style courtesy of mlx, who has done a great job and won a prize for that, because commercials are never without a price

Logo is from Jennifer Government by Max Barry, which is a GREAT modern-cyberpunk book about corporations which all of you should really buy. Really, do yourself this favour."

I don't get the picture that looris had free ad time for ruthless corporations in mind when he made this channel. If Coca Cola wants comment free advertising on this site, let them pay for it.

Just because you don't see the politics, doesn't mean they aren't there. Outside of all of Coke's unethical business practices and labor abuse, The Coca-Cola Company, itself, spends a lot of money on politics, supporting candidates and political front groups: http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Coca-Cola_Company

Beyond this, I think advertising diabetes inducing products to kids, and co-opting the iconography of a beloved cultural holiday is gross. Santa Clause doesn't drink Coke, he drinks hot cocoa and apple cider.

Anyway, I know you probably don't care about any of this and just wanted to enjoy a cute commercial. I get that and I'm sorry I've antagonized you. I've paid a visit to your pq, so net gain for you.

Herman Cain suffers major brain meltdown on Libya topic

quantumushroom says...

Before we begin, you know what's missing from these comments? WHat DID Barry think of the Libyan crisis?

Here's what I knew: if Gaddafi won out, then His Earness would be for Gaddafi, if the rebels won, he'd be for the rebels (tho now it looks like radical islamoturds will be taking over). Now THAT'S fucking LEADERSHIP! Wouldn't ya say?

Hi Netrunner, I've just finished reading a book that reminded me of your posts the whole way through. It's called "A thinking reed" (from Pascal's Pensees) and is the Australian politician Barry Jones' autobiography... now it's not a perfect book by any means, it's a bit like a group of related essays rather than a cohesive work, but it is interesting and entirely the sort of discussion I can see you wanting to engage in.

I linked to it in this video http://videosift.com/video/Barry-Jones-Reprieve-speech so I won't repeat myself, but the death penalty was only one chapter in a very long book!

I'm pretty sure it's available in your parts, if not then get in touch.

Here is a review, but from an Australian point of view, it doesn't really explain why a U.S. citizen might want to read it... but I think that learning about other systems can only help understanding your own. Oh, and the Russia trip where he persuaded the police he was a high ranking Communist was rather amusing, as were other parts

OWS Is a Conservative Movement, Corporations are Radical

No one has anything to say about this? I disagree with some of the things said in this video...

The only thing I would disagree with is that the "conservative movement" part. Classic conservatives like Barry Goldwater or William Buckley would have supported OWS, but today's "mainstream" conservatives are more likely to back corporatism.

OWS is an anti-corporatism movement, and it is a position that many liberals and conservatives can get behind.

Partly from following your discussion with QM on the Republicans pro life or pro death video, I found a talk by one of the men responsible for abolishing the death penalty in Australia, and as it has 8 votes I very much hope you either enjoy it or start a huge flame war with any of the usual suspects on it's comment page Or both, that would be good too.

I would've sent on the link sooner, but forgot whose comments prompted me to post it
