Unboxing The $3000 Bluetooth Speaker

kir_mokum says...

the freq. range of bluetooth is the freq. range it can transmit/receive, so it affects audio. the encoding and decoding seems to be more problematic these days as it introduces noise, artifacting, and distortion. different bluetooth codecs have different freq. range characteristics.

I know very little about this but logic has me thinking the frequency range of blue tooth has nothing to do with the frequency range of the final sound produced as it's just transmitting a digital signal.

amiright?

Assassin's Creed Trailer

jmd says...

I have a pretty good grasp on the assassin's creed storyline, ignoring some of the story bending needed to obtain said artifacts and create gameplay elements that are quickly dismissed in the sequel.

From the looks of it, they did a good job finding an interesting time period (1478+) while allowing the movie arc to start early enough to make plenty of sequels. The game is quickly running out of the past already.

The animus interface looks stupid though.

Project Blue Beam Whale Hologram in School Gymnasium

newtboy says...

Sadly I'm going to have to call 'fake'.

First, "project blue beam" is a conspiracy theory idea that claims things like the planes that flew into the twin towers were really holograms, or that there's an alien invasion program creating odd holographic images to confuse humans, or aliens are using holograms to present us with a false messiah/Jesus/Gawd/4 horsemen of the apocalypse. Uh...yeah.
Second, I notice that only a single person in the background audience has a reaction that might be attributed to seeing a whale jump at you, the rest just clap casually.
Third, there are many clear artifacts at the whale's edge where they photoshopped it in.

I wish holograms were at this level today, and they should be, but they aren't. Projecting white into a bright 3D space doesn't work without smoke or mist to project on, and even then it's only really visible when the surroundings are darker.

They should revoke his passport. he obviously has zero respect for other cultures, their artifacts, or their laws.
I'm with @eric3579, he should have spent a month in jail, been fined, and THEN been deported...permanently...and I'll go farther and say he should be put on a list of people who desecrate international heritage sites and never allowed to travel again.

Sorry @enoch, have to downvote for the content/action depicted.

Oregon Occupiers Rummage Through Paiute Artifacts

artician says...

Sorry, it turns out my fresh install of my email client decided to sort Videosift emails into the junk folder, so I missed a bunch of replies.

Mainly I was ready to string these guys up for mucking around with historical artifacts. The sensitivity to it is because the current occupiers of this country already wiped out millions of indigenous people, and now the least intelligent among us have to drag what's left further through the mud with their buffoonery.

I also think the way the government has dealt with this is perfect, but, I still cringe when considering the disparity between how this was dealt with, versus so many recent, violent and unnecessary urban confrontations lately.

Oregon Occupiers Rummage Through Paiute Artifacts

newtboy says...

No. Not even a little.
They are being stored BY THE TRIBE at this locked, until now secure location. These morons have no right to rifle through their private tribal papers and artifacts because they don't know the tribe is involved and they assume the evil government must be doing it wrong. The tribe is outraged, their opinion is the only one that counts...after all, this is THEIR ancestral land, not the ranchers, and it's THEIR history and PRIVATE papers being pawed through and likely stolen. The terrorists have already been caught stealing things from the park, it's no stretch at all to assume they'll be stealing many artifacts they find 'interesting' or 'improperly stored'....if the natives want them back, they can go ask Bundy for them, right?

As idiotic as these protesters are, the "rummaging" and "rifling" slant on this story is trying pretty hard.

Aside from their ill-conceived, unjustified armed occupation, don't the idiots have at least a tiny point about the poor preservation of those artifacts?
