Why the World’s Biggest Aquarium is Being Built in Secret

spawnflagger says...

I've been to Ferrari World (on that same island) - it was less of a theme park, and more of a Ferrari museum which happened to have a rollercoaster.
The Emiratis like to compete with each other - this new Sea World will be much larger than the aquarium inside the Dubai Mall.

Penguins openly explore aquarium closed due to coronavirus

"An aquarium in Chicago has let its penguins wander around freely after closing to visitors indefinitely due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Shedd Aquarium said on social media: 'While this may be a strange time for us, these days feel normal for animals at Shedd'..."

What Is The Shape of Space?

vil says...

The ultimate tautology - why is the universe exactly the way we need it to be to let us survive (temporarily) - if it was not we would not be here to ask. Obviously you can switch to asking how did it get to be that way and there is a lot of room for fun in that department.

Aquarium fish dont question the odds of having water in their aquarium. It is either there or it is not. Also our aquarium is really small right now and we are hardly trying to get out.

Building a Fish Tower in a pond

Building a Fish Tower in a pond

AeroMechanical says...

That's an interesting question, but I figure the water pressure in the box can't be different than the pressure difference you'd get from the equivalent change of depth, which can't be very much. Surely their bladders allow them to swim up or down a few feet. I doubt they're stuck in any way. Maybe they congregate there because the water in the box is warmer or because there is more light. Maybe they just find it interesting. I guess I shouldn't feel bad about fish in an aquarium since they seem to enjoy the experience.

The question I always have when I see these is do the fish really like it, or does the change in pressure on the water under vacuum affect their swim bladders so they get too buoyant and get a bit stuck inside it?

Thunderf00t BUSTS the Hyperloop concept

Payback says...

Basically, a Hyperloop tube is under the same pressure as a tube of sea-level air, 10m underwater. The difference from inside to outside is 1 atmosphere in both cases.

This is close to the underwater tunnel at the Georgia aquarium, and that's made out of plastic...

Not sure why he thinks this is so bizarre.
