EMTs charged with murder

robdot says...

Cities use private ambulances simply because it’s cheaper than using much higher paid professional firefighter medics.

And professional firefighter medics are not gonna work for private service wages, so, private services are getting the bottom of the barrel. Like you see here.

Cities all over America are slowly getting rid of private services. And accepting the fact that they have to pay professionals. Often it takes something to happen though. Like this.

An emt ,and a paramedic ,are 2 totally different things. The headline says emt. But the newscaster says paramedic. There is a significant license and education level between those 2.

I don’t believe these 2 are paramedics. Often an ambulance would have one medic and one emt. Who really just drives the medic around and hands him stuff.

Neither of these 2 look like medics to me. So,there is a question as to why this squad has no medic on board.

I was going to start off saying that the whole concept of a private ambulance company - an essential service run for profit that so obviously benefits the wealthy over the poor - is so alien to me that it feels wrong to my core.

Then I read your comment and thought that the training really is at the heart of this. Were they sufficiently trained and managed to know that this could/would kill?

This is not a rhetorical question.

If they were paid little and/or forced to work long shifts so they're facing this while tired enough not to think/care, then I blame the company and, by association, the system. If they were well trained and had no genuine excuse (rather than reason) for their behaviour then I blame them.

The reality probably isn't as cut-and-dried as I present it above, but there's definitely a spectrum of blame to be considered.

China CCP's efforts to control people, More covid Lockdown

“The morning market has been canceled, with a large number of police, fire trucks, and ambulances. Look at this armed force.” (shows about 30 unarmed blue shirts). “It’s enough to liberate Taiwan and Japan.”
Nope.

BTW, 26 million under quarantine, out of >1.4 billion….that’s well under 2% of the country, @bobknight33. 1800+ cities over 10000 pop., 41 is a tiny fraction.

Let's talk about Republican reaction to the SCOTUS leak....

newtboy says...

Are you having a stroke? If you talked like you write, I would call an ambulance. Read it, carefully.

1). Nice misdirection there. Way to completely ignore the accusation, and pretend you didn’t just call yourself and all republicans heavily armed crybaby pussies afraid of a few hipsters holding poster board signs.
Funny, because what you described is EXACTLY what women’s healthcare providers suffer from people just like you on a daily basis…the minimum they must tolerate, Bob. Not what happens TO the right, it’s what the right DOES. That’s called projection, you insane idiot. Those healthcare workers have the testicular fortitude to stand up to it daily, with not just constant protesters but death threats and murders and attempted murders constantly, bombings, firebombs, etc….so much they don’t make the news anymore.

2) I thought you cared about the law (*snickers*), the law doesn’t call abortions murder, neither does medical science…are you talking about Texans who immorally execute the mentally disabled? Or morally bankrupt Republicans who try to prosecute women who miscarry for child murder, with no child involved?

3) Are you really so intellectually bankrupt that you don’t think Republican women get abortions? I know you are morally and ethically bankrupt enough to say it even if you don’t believe it, but I’m not sure even you are dumb enough to think it’s true…but you’ve surprised me before.

4) 16 million? How far up your ass did you reach for that number? There were near 600000 terminated pregnancies last year. Would you like to be taxed enough to support them in state orphanages? Only around $1k per year (and rising 2-3% per year) for your share.

Such a little crybaby. You need a nap?

More on those pesky vaccine passports among other things

StukaFox says...

You don't want a vaccine? Lovely. We will be canceling your health insurance. Since you've chosen to be a complete cunt, we've chosen not to pay for your utter cuntiness.

I work in health insurance. The three biggest contributors to the price of insurance are:
1: fraud (doctors are notorious for this)
2: general waste (upbilling; unnecessary tests that are only performed to keep the fucking ambulance-chasing lawyers from filing malpractice suits because someone got the shits from an antibiotic)
3: PREVENTABLE HEALTH ISSUES. This includes obesity, smoking, not exercising, not getting annual checkups and atrocious dietary habits as first-order issues. If not corrected, these lead to more expensive and longer term second-order issues: diabetes, heart disease, cancer, vascular disease. These issues start a feedback loop with the second-order effects cause immobility which contributes to increasing first-order effects which amplifies second-order effects -- lather, rinse, repeat.

Now add a good case of Covid to that mix. If you end up on a ventilator for two week, there's a mil-plus in hospital bills: someone has to either pay that (welcome higher insurance rates!) or the hospital has to eat it (welcome even HIGHER insurance rates!) You can bitch all you want about the cost of healthcare in America, but you're paying for every dumb, entitled asshole who spouts shit like MUH FREEDUMS!! when asked to do basic things to protect themselves and others.

tl;dr: your idiot views of what the actual fuck "freedom" is ends at my wallet. Fuck you and get your goddamn vaccine. And put down the Cheetos while you're at it.

Girl Screams When Bison Comes At Car Window

BSR says...

Never understood why females scream so easily.

Maybe this?

1 : a piece of equipment that produces a loud, high-pitched warning sound
an ambulance siren
the wailing of air-raid sirens
We heard police sirens. [=sirens on police cars]

2 : a woman who is very attractive but also dangerous : temptress
a Hollywood siren

3 Siren : one of a group of female creatures in Greek mythology whose singing attracted sailors and caused them to sail into dangerous water or toward rocks

The flight that almost killed me

newtboy says...

When I was 17, my dad took me to some cliffs south of San Francisco to learn how to hang glide. The class met at a cliff to watch experienced pilots take off before going to a practice slope. The first launch we watched took off, made a smooth arcing turn, and crashed at full speed directly into the vertical cliff about 150' high and fell. He broke both legs at the least, but survived at least long enough for the ambulance to get there.

Dad cancelled my class, I never learned to fly.

Next generation vertical lift Bell V 280 Valor

SFOGuy says...

lol; well, yes.
Actually, as a civilian, for short trips in bad traffic areas (yes, I know that light rail and mass transit would be better)---I would try this out.

And---for Air Ambulances (yes, mixed evidence on efficacy) and Military MediEvac---farther, faster, safer with more load?

Distracted Cop Hits Cyclist

newtboy says...

Kind of...minimizing the guy's injuries instantly isn't the best start imo. Surprising he didn't blame the bike rider, though. That would seem normal these days.

He hit him hard enough to break the bike frame sending the victim to the asphalt hard. Soft tissue injuries often aren't visible, and might not be painful for days. I think he should have taken the ambulance ride on the cop's dime and gotten an mri to be sure.
I hope he gets sets new bike out of this at least.

16 seconds: The Killing of Anita Kurmann

newtboy says...

When I used to ride 30+ miles a day, I came damn close to being ended in the same type of accidents repeatedly. I learned quickly that trucks won't see bicyclists, even when they can see them, and so they demand your close attention. In this case, the truck had it's blinker on well before she passed it. She should have paid closer attention to traffic around her for her own safety.
That's not to say it's her fault, just that, as the one who will be injured or killed in an accident, it's prudent to be vigilant looking out for others driving unsafely.

All that said, since the driver knew he hit someone and drove away, only calling for police/ambulance later from another town, it should be manslaughter at a minimum, I can't fathom no charges being brought. WTF?!

Doug Melton - "Does He Love You Enough"

newtboy says...

Only a $25000 bond for attempted murder?!? On her third violent case?!? That seems excessively small. I've known people with 20 times that bail amount on non violent cases where no one was hurt and no one tried to hurt anyone...she shot at him twice and hit him, then drove away and left him to die. WTF?!
And her pops is trying to portray her as the victim...yeah. I sure hope that doesn't fly in court. Maybe if she had called an ambulance, but leaving him bleeding in the street, nope. Innocent victims simply don't do that.
Glad he's going to live...I hope he gets enough press out of it to make a living. It's not my style of music, but he's good at it.
