How IBM quietly pushed out 20,000 older workers
There is a reason I wear jeans, t-shirts and ball caps to work everyday. Ageism in IT is very real and I want to sneak under the radar for as long as I can.
Millennials in the Workforce, A Generation of Weakness
Oh cool, can I join the ageism bandwagon too? When I was young I had to get up at 3am in the morning, 2 hours before I went to bed... I remember being much more subservient to man when I was young. Oh wait...
the hypocrisy of women refusing to date short men
I think choosing who you want to make sweet love to is the one area where it's completely fine to discriminate in whatever way you want. Having a sexual orientation isn't sexism, not dating the elderly isn't ageism. Even more shallow things like preferring certain body types or certain races is fine, because the alternative is to lie about what attracts you, which is not actually a kind thing to do.
What really pisses me off is guys who somehow feel entitled to dates from women who aren't interested. Just find someone you're compatible with, there is no "correcting" people's sexual preferences.
As for the better point of women being hypocritical because they don't want to be judged on their weight, I think they're smart enough to know that happens, but it does seem crass to ask for exact measurements. The main difference is women believe most men don't mind being asked their height, and men know most women do mind being asked their weight.
So men, own up to your height insecurity whenever possible so that women will be more sensitive in the future.

Real Time with Bill Maher: Generation Ass
Hmmm. Wasn't Maher one of the people piling on John McCain in 2008, when *he* was 72?
To be fair, that was mostly because McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate, which would have put her 1 step away from the White House if anything happened to him. But still, a big deal was made of his age at the time ... so you can't exactly claim that this is some new wave of ageism.
I'd personally be fine with a 72+ year old president... But on the other hand, the parties are going to swing for whoever they think is the most electable, and since a disturbing proportion of people just vote for whoever they think looks the best, they kinda have to pander to that demographic a bit. And that's going to put some pressure on the "old and wise" in favor of the "young and good looking", whether we agree with it or not.

Oops: Priest Shows Gay Porn In Presentation -- TYT
Equality Channel Description:
@burdturgler I believe that the struggle for equality includes equal rights for gay/lesbian/transgendered/bisexual people. As @EvilDeathBee pointed out this is only a national story because of the gayness of the porn involved.
Janeane Garofalo: Republicans Aren't Well-Adjusted
I won't condone the way Garofalo put it because there are no rigorous scientific definitions of any of the adjectives she used, but there is something to it.

As determined by psychological testing:
Liberal Concerns
Harm/Benefit (aka utility)
Fairness
Conservative Concerns
Authority (as an end in itself, not as a tool for benefit/fairness)
Purity (as an end in itself, not as a tool for benefit/fairness, hijacked by whatever notions of purity happen to occur in the location of their birth)
In-group Loyalty (as an end in itself, not as a tool for benefit/fairness). In various circumstances this is known as tribalism, nepotism, cronyism, nationalism, chauvinism, jingoism, xenophobia, racism, sexism, patriotism, speciesism, or ageism.
The latter three are a crude system of morals that might have suited humanity well before it developed a germ theory of disease, representative government, and global commerce.
John McCain: "That One"
If you want to see despicable, unapologetic racism, sexism and ageism, look no further than the Donkey Party and their media lackeys. Observe the way they've treated Powell, Palin, Clarence Thomas, Alberto Gonzales, Condi, Bush's wife and daughters and now McCain.
Anyone outside of the liberal multi-cult circle of tolerance is fair game for their treachery, yet they're the first to howl "racism" when called on their BS. The sissies can dish it but not take it.
Robert Byrd, the "ex" Ku Klux Klansman is whom Democrats revere as "the conscience of the Senate".
So please, liberals, refrain from pretending you're not hateful in your own special ways.
You've Driven Me Away From the Left (Lies Talk Post)
>> ^NetRunner:
If it's the "smear tactics", we've still got a long way to go before we match the right -- we're calling McCain old and angry, he's calling Obama a Muslim terrorist.
That's not equivalent. Technically they're both personal attacks, but what we're saying about McCain is pretty mild compared to what he's saying about Obama (never mind the fact that we're telling the truth, and he's making false implications).
Democrats aren't guiltless saints, but we weren't the ones who broke the country.
Cracka please. I'm no McCain fan, but to say the Dems' attacks are truthful therefore better is an hypocrisy. If Obama was McCain's age and McCain's camp was calling Obama old, the goddamn Dems would be playing the ageism card. For the record, I know Obama isn't a terrorist or affiliated with terrorists, so I think that right wind tactic is baseless and low. Shame on them. But isn't that Republican and Democrat politics as usual? To be baseless? To be opportunistic?
And don't sit there and act like Dems didn't play a role in this shit sandwich economic crisis. This is just more BS partisan hackery. You probably think the housing bubble popped because there wasn't enough government regulation, like so many delusional Dems, but the truth is this crisis didn't come from a deregulated market. No. We haven't seen a deregulated market in a long, long, long time, and chances are we never will with the current Neocons and Dems trading places so readily in the captain seat.
The housing market was falsely propped up and made to appear lucrative in order to keep costs high. I'm tired of hearing scapegoat politicians going after subprime lending practices, “predatory” mortgages and unscrupulous lenders who target poor people as if these were the only culprits. The market and capitalism wasn't to blame for this crisis. The Federal Reserve was for manipulating interests rates and creation of money out of thin air. Why? Because when you create that much money and create a false credit then banksters, investors and creditors and even the people investing think the market is booming when it's not.
Sesame Street Liberation Front Propaganda Tape
I think your definition of racist is wrong. You may not like it, but it's just parody. It's not mocking Muslims, it's mocking extremists. So we're supposed to respect and pander to extremist Islamist murderers? Regardless of why they do it, and how fucked up our policies on the Middle East have been?
I'm a *very* socially liberal and against racism, sexism, ageism, and any other discrimination, but I still have a sense of humor and can laugh when something is funny and not get self righteous about it.
The Secret
No problem, fletch, I've been at the bottom of a pile before.
Perhaps you didn't see the Winky after "I see many votes." It was a joke. As for the methods used in this film, I agree they are panhandling to New Ageism through historical mysticism with nothing more but a new spin on Peale's book, but hey...it certainly worked for Byrne's dreams of success, hmmm?
I certainly don't believe that you can think yourself into health or success the way this film describes. I do however, think that you can have a powerful affect on your life with positive thoughts. My mother woke every day as if she had a chance to make it good, and it was. I definitely think that you can attract negativism if you constantly complain, and that negativism is a huge stressor on the human psyche. I avoid negativism (and sometimes even controversy) at almost all costs: I just don't waste my time dwelling on the negative aspects of every day situations or events. I certainly don't take all this as far as The Secret people do, I just know that I can control a very large part of my psyche, even my life, by harnassing positive energy. Generally I just choose to be happy and make it good. And for the most part...it works.
