Hi Ren! No words for how moving this song is.

Ant,

It would require a fairly intensive refactor to get it to work. The hardest part would be figuring out how to shoehorn GOTO into a modern BASIC interpreter since that command was taken out back and shot in the head -- and for good reason -- but with the memory and processor restrictions of computers at the time, GOTO was necessary because GOSUB required 4 bytes of stored information and a bit more processing power. There's also a number of functions that are exclusive to TRS-DOS BASIC and the Model III in particular.

At one point, I thought about moving the code from BASIC to Z-80 Assembler, but by then the first PC Jr. clones were out (I had a TRS Model 1000 and it was GREAT!) and it no longer made sense to continue doing anything on the Model III.

The worst loss is the database data, which was all the room and pathing descriptions, as well as part of the warm storage for the games. That's the part that breaks my heart to have lost.

That said, the sound over an acoustic coupler of an analog modem making a 300 bps connection is still makes me smile.

Snarky Puppy - Lingus

Sagemind says...

They are in the recording studio, everything is going trough the mics. This is a live recording performance.

Found this description for you.

"It's recorded in live conditions but I guess guitars , keyboards use no amps but are directly plugged to the recording console. So the audience couldn't benefit of the full mix without headphones. They'd hear only acoustic instrument and no amplified ones."

Six-String Soldiers - Wish You Were Here (Acoustic Cover)

Right in Two (Cover by Beard of Harmony)

Awesome. I like their take on the largely percussion section in the original that I see as a symbolic version of the evolution and industrialization of man (simple and free flowing to aggressive to machine-methodical). Cool to see that bit done with flamenco-esque percussion on the guitar resonating chamber.

Hard to beat the snarl-factor that ramps up in Maynard's original vocals, and I think I prefer those overall, but this style goes better with the acoustic instrumentation.

Great sift!

Doctor Who Theme Classical Acoustic Guitar Cover

RFlagg says...

Okay, I'd say this is a bit of a Spanish sound to it, not just acoustic guitar. Would this be because the type of guitar, the tuning, the way he plays, a combo of them, or highly possible, I'm just crazy.

Yanny or Laurel

That "explained vid" pretty much lost my support when they tried to say those two diagrams were similar. Those two acoustic displays were about as dissimilar as they could get, and still represent single words.

wiki link to Foley Sound

I was going to say; I wonder if it is a continuation of old radio show sound design, and it is!

I think there will always be a place for it just like the acoustic piano. There are too many variables and our subconscious is too in tune with sound that a digital sample will ever be enough to trick us. MAYBE they will get there but I can always hear when they use digital instruments in music.

Here is the exchange that broke it open for me. So fricking good. Even thought it was a "joke."

Yeah, that's the scar tissue talking, let it go big guy, it's okay to cry... ; )

So much cringe. I can't handle it. Not so much the people, but the editing. And definitely the cheery acoustic kickstarter music at the end. It hurts.

Ancient Swedish Cow Herding Call

They should hold concerts in that field, the acoustics are amazing. It's almost as good as if they'd pre-recorded it in a studio somewhere and overdubbed the woman shouting what the farmer usually shouts:

"Hey you smelly bastards, I've got food here, oh damn I've stepped in some cow sh-.." and the rest is drowned out by mooing.

Either that or a fat bloke smoking a rollup rattling a feed bucket off camera.
