London in 1927 - Early Colour Silent Film
They did not specify exactly what colour process was used on the YT page, I was curious. I managed to do a little research from a page I remember listing various processes for silent films. The credits said Friese-Greene Colour process which in turn is "Biocolor". The alternating red/green frames was obvious to me in the motion sequences as Technicolor 2-strip takes 2 images simultaneously rather than alternating.
Here is the actual process http://www.widescreenmuseum.com/oldcolor/stained.htm and the wiki page for the man behind the tech. Although I would take the "invented" part with a grain of salt from the credits as it seems he just ripped off a previous process and called it his own This film is listed as one of four made...
Really cool to see a very rare colour process used on an even rarer film. I wish there was more of this and other rare processes. Most of it likely has permanently vanished due to rotting away

Marilyn Manson - I Put a Spell On You
You might want to check out the Devil Music Ensemble who's stock and trade is doing live accompaniment to large projections of silent films. I saw them perform to Nosferatu. They too, do Dr. Caligari.

Wow... Disney are douches.
A: They sugar coated this like everything else they touch. This would have been 100% more powerful if it ended like the original story.
B: And even after sugar-coating it, they STILL buried it in some extra features on a dvd.
This is why Ghibli > Disney. Disney doesn't want to challenge our kids, just feed them shit they can use to sell toys to trips to disneyworld.
Edit: I'm voting up because I feel it is about as close as Disney has gotten in recent years to a good piece of animation.
Actually, Disney's version here is almost EXACTLY like the original Hans Christen Anderson story, with some minor changes to accommodate the style. The beginning of the story (which gives a bit more detail about the grandmother, as well as the girl's family) has been cut out because it wouldn't fit with the rest of the short, which is supposed to be a silent film of sorts. However, this omission does nothing to change the theme and impact of the story, as the rest of the short more than makes up for it. The only other difference is that the animation takes place in Russia instead of Holland, a change which I rather prefer for the visual style.
As for the ending, make no mistake about it, the girl dies. You can see her body after her "spirit" fades into the distance with her grandmother's spirit. Perhaps you missed that.
Conan the Barbarian - Greatest Movie Ever Made?
One of the best fantasy movies of all time... was very similar to the old silent films, since Arnold couldn't speak English. Basil Poledouris' amazing soundtrack made up for it though.
Buster Keaton - The Railrodder
Why you gotta be so mean, siftbot? I know that there are at least a few more people who fit into the Creepy old men PLUS silent film PLUS cross-country Canada demographics. You just have to give it a little more time, you.. You tin!

awesome!
that's Harold Lloyd in "Speedy" ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0019412/ ), not Keaton...although in the old celluloids they all look the same if you're not a silent film nerd.
Which I am not...but I wish I had the time to be one, thanks for the research, I fixed the tags.
