It was a great series, as was Long Way Down, where they ride from John'O Groats, Scotland, to Cape Town. I was surprised that they persisted with the loaded-up BMWs in the second series, though. The bikes were totally unsuitable for sandy/muddy conditions-way too heavy.

Don't worry, Britain and England are synonymous for most people and judging by how politics is going in Scotland, they want to strengthen that definition as well

How ironic, a British person complaining about people "invading" their country.

Think people need to start being specific. It was England that took over the world, not Britain. There's plenty of Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish people who wouldn't want to be tarred with that brush you're using

I'm sorry, this isn't a Bush thickism.
Considering the United States is comprised, mainly, of immigrants and their children, assuming someone in America is American is just playing the odds. Immigrants don't just lose their accents once they've completed naturalization.
Considering the US has a global reach of media, and Wales doesn't, one shouldn't assume anyone knows dick about Wales, and it's "media empire". This wouldn't be like "I'm from Australia." "Oh, that's just outside Texarcana, isn't it? Yeehaw!"
Now, I'm Canadian, and I knew England, Scotland, and Ireland are separate countries, in name if not practice, but even I never heard of Wales being separate, just harder to understand. So to be fair, someone with a bit more on their plate than idle anglophilia could be excused for a simple mistaken assumption.

Welsh accent doesn't sound American or even close. Pretty sure any British accent does not sound American or come close. Australian and English, perhaps, although i can't hear it, I accept a lot of people get that mixed up. Never ever heard of anyone mistaking any British accent for an American one, regardless of your immigration point.

"Even you" hehe

I'm sorry no where in my message do I say "i don't understand analogies" you just intentionally miss-quoted me.
I said I understand your attempt at an analogy between "99%" and the "Tea Party" of 1773. But this isn't between those two. It is between "99%" and Today's "Tea Party".
I'm sorry, you sounded coherent at first but I am no longer interested in talking to you. Get over you since of denial that in this case, this one case, you might be wrong. That doesn't mean everything the Democratic party has ever done is wrong. I'm just arguing with this case.

Nothing gets by you huh?

So OK, if what you're saying is that today's Tea Party has absolutely nothing to do, in any way whatsoever, with the 1773 Tea Party, well it seems a little harsh but I guess I can agree with that. You're completely right.

I'm really glad you brought up the subject of coherence because I'm having a little trouble understanding what you mean by, "Get over you since of denial". I don't want to just assume that I know what you were trying to say, but I can't shake the feeling that I do. So, in the interest of making my own self clear, I'm going to quote the parts of my post (word for word) that I think you might have intentionally forgotten to read:

>> ^Ryjkyj:
...I'm willing to entertain the idea that the Democrats are responsible for our predicament as well. But focusing on the left-right controversies is exactly what the people in power want us to do. Because it prevents us from discussing the real issues. We can just sit around blaming each-other forever as far as they're concerned...
...And people can spin the numbers and facts any way that they want. Just as I've done here. But no matter how you spin it, the fact that there is a problem is glaringly obvious to most people. Even if we don't see it the same way. You obviously think there's a problem as well...
...The power lies in the numbers, not the message. It's the same for the Tea Party. Wouldn't it be great if we could come together and use those numbers for something positive?...

The thing that really cracks me up about your response is that it gives the impression that you are trying to recede to some moral or intelligent high ground. But the thing is, you can't recede to a place that you were never at to start with. So really what you're doing is just backtracking, when in fact, it was your first post that was filled with insults and a refusal to admit that the other side could ever be right about anything at all. If you're going to maintain that attitude, then why don't you just admit it instead of trying to project your intellectual short-comings onto others? Which by the way is in and of itself, a symptom of denial.

Also, I understand that you're talking about this on a case by case basis. But just because you're talking about two groups in the present, doesn't mean that the past has no bearing. And as far as Obama, there are plenty of people in "the 99%" who are complaining about him as well. I'm not sure why everyone needs to project that onto the crowd.

And WTF is with the, "Bush is more loved in Africa then(sic) Obama" bullshit? Why do people feel such a need to keep bringing it up? Obama is not African. He's American. My ancestors were from Scotland, but I don't give more of a shit about what Scottish people think of me than anyone else. And of course Africans favor Bush, the whole continent is predominantly Muslim.

Too bad you're not interested in talking anymore. I was really enjoying this.

Not what you first think :o)

The point about global warming is that all the available evidence shows that:
1. It is happening
2. It is man-made.

Why is that a problem? well, because we dont know what the consequences could be, we dont know how to stop the rising temperature or if theres a limit or if or when we can reverse the trend.

All of the above could happen, or it might not, some of it may not be due to GW and some of it may be. The fact is that we are messing with earths ecosystem, which is the very reason we are here in the first place. We grew up and evolved as a species on this planet, under these conditions, how will a rapid(geologically rapid 100-200 years) change in climate affect us as a species? how will it affect millions of other species? How will it affect weather? viruses? diseases? deserts? forests?

We don't know

Thats the point. some of the above are possible consequences of global warming*.

*or some denialist pulled it out of their ass and put it on the web so that other denialists could impress us all with their extensive lists.

BBC Shushes Black Writer Broadcaster About London Riots

Krupo says...

The Canadians here and anyone else paying attention to the G20 riot in Toronto last year shudder at this. Deja vu all over again. Saturday, the cops let the "black bloc" (white kids trashing storefronts) do their thing.

Sunday, the cops responded with the savage beatings/kettling actions.

Seeing it once looks like an awful mistake. Seeing it a second time... troubling.

>> ^marbles:

Police were ordered to stand down as London burned:
...
According to eyewitnesses to the initial riots in Tottenham, police were seen “standing back and allowing rioters to cause havoc,” a trend that continued during subsequent nights before Prime Minister David Cameron ordered 10,000 extra police officers to patrol London last night.
This has now been confirmed by sources within Scotland Yard who said police were ordered to “stand and observe” even as brazen acts of violent crime were committed against both people and private property, a directive which prevented them from arresting any of the troublemakers.
...
The police’s inadequate response quickly led to calls for martial law, curfews and the use of water cannons on streets in England for the first time, a power that Prime Minister David Cameron has now authorized.
Britain’s most widely-read newspaper The Sun ran a poll today which found that two thirds of Brits support the use of rubber bullets to deal with rioters, while 33 per cent supported the use of live bullets.
“Curfews are backed by 82 per cent, using tear gas got 78 per cent support and Tasers 72 per cent,” states the report.
