Lake Oroville Drought, California

And another Trump terrorist plead guilty yesterday, this one admitted to trying to hire a hit man to kill his ex girlfriend, her sister, and her brother in law, and stage the crimes to blame BLM. This crime was thwarted last year in June.

This on top of the Trump terrorist who was just charged with murder, kidnapping, and terrorism along with about a dozen other white supremacists in Florida days after being released from a 6 month sentence for his part in Jan 6, Jan 6, Jan 6.

Earlier this week a pair of Trumpsters were stopped right before bombing the Democratic headquarters in Sacramento, caught with multiple bombs, multiple guns, and thousands of rounds along with written plans for their terrorist attack.

Seems like every day a few new terrorist plots by Trumpsters, usually white supremacist Trumpsters, are uncovered and stopped by the feds, who are also a main target. Just a heads up, you belong to an anti American fascist terrorist gang.

Mom Says Neighbors Repeatedly Call Cops On Her Kids

StukaFox says...

Dude, you live in West Sacramento, so shut the fuck up. If you wanted to live somewhere nice, you would have moved to the Fab 40s or Land Park. Instead, you bought a cheap-ass house in a cheap-ass area because you're a cheap-ass prick, so suck it up.

You're lucky that bangers aren't drive-by'ing your house 24/7, because that's what West Sac was like in the 80s. The only reason anyone ever went to West Sac was to buy drugs, usually from me. That place was fucking anarchy for decades. My friend and sales associate used to down a 5th of Jack, then camp out on his back porch with a .22 and shoot rats off the power lines. Occasionally, he actually hit one instead of blacking out the whole block. Then, once he was done dealing with the local wildlife, he'd move on to blowing off M-80s and M-100s at 4 in the morning. That's what West Sac used to be like on a quiet night. When shit got rowdy -- a day we called 'pretty much any hot summer day' -- the fun was fully uncorked. Shootings, fires, more shootings, vandalism, fist-fights, street robberies, SO much more shooting, an increase in drug sales and thus my income; even the cops stayed off the streets on nights like that.

This idiot wouldn't have lasted five minutes in West Sac back then. Fucking skateboarding -- shit.

Yep. I live in Humboldt. Moved up here from the bay area, a completely different culture. They are also totally different from Southern California, which itself is a completely different animal from Central Valley California. There was a time when splitting the state into two, north and south, was considered, but no one wanted the bay area in their half, and Sacramento didn't belong in either half either. If we split, it should be into at least 4 distinct states, north, central, south, and Bay area California, and even then there would be many communities in the wrong states.

Top Secret! (1984) Trailer #1 | Movieclips Classic Trailers

StukaFox says...

I remember seeing every single one of those movies at the Bradshaw Drive-In in Sacramento that year.
"Remember" might be a bit of an over-statement as I was roaring drunk at all of them.
Damn that was kinda a good year.

moonsammy said:

It confuses me that this movie isn't better-known. Having just looked at the other releases* the month it came out I can completely understand it not being a theatrical success, but it should have caught on via home rental. Nope! Always had a cult following, never anything beyond that.

*First week of June 1984: Star Trek III. Second week, Gremlins and Ghostbusters (yes, on the same day). Third week was dead, but the 4th saw not just Top Secret! but also The Karate Kid. The next week was Bachelor Party, Conan the Destroyer, and Cannonball Run II. I don't think Top Secret! stood a chance.

Family Motto | Dodge

StukaFox says...

My favorite car was my '73 Dodge Charger (I wanted a '67, but good luck with that). The little 318 was a joy to work on (I wanted a 440 PI, but good luck with that). I made so many mods to that engine and I loved opening up the Edelbrock so everyone in Sacramento could hear me pulling on to 99. God help the ricers who'd nose my white beast -- spankings were handed out with impunity. I kissed my wife for the first time in that car -- and the second, and the third time as well.

I've since tried to buy another, but they're pretty rare and either in collector's condition, or up on blocks in someone's yard.

Good days, man, good days!

Orange County is the Florida of California

newtboy says...

Screw that!
As a true NorCaler, in Humboldt, we don't want Sacramento and the bay area. We are a completely different animal up here from those central Californians.
Split it at Big Sur, and again at Ukiah. They can keep the big port, pollution, and traffic, we'll keep the forests and unspoiled rivers.

StukaFox said:

As a former NorCal'er, I can't tell you how much I loathe SoCal. Every now and then, a call goes out to split the state horizontally at around Fresno. Fuck that! Split it at Big Sur and let them have all the shit between King City and the Mexican border.

Oroville Spillways Phase 2 Update Final Dentate Placement

BSR says...

Sounds like someone didn't do their homework the first time.

https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/08/13/oroville-dam-see-before-and-after-video-of-construction-progress/

Also in January, an independent team of experts who reviewed the spillway failure concluded in a report that Department of Water Resources officials were “overconfident and complacent” and gave “inadequate priority for dam safety” for decades at Oroville.

They noted that main concrete spillway at the 770-foot tall dam north of Sacramento, in Butte County, was built in the late 1960s on poor quality rock. The spillway, only seven inches thick in some areas and not adequately anchored, cracked in multiple places in the following years, allowing water to flow underneath. On Feb. 7, 2017, water from powerful winter storms rushed under the massive spillway, which forced up its giant slabs and ripped a huge hole in the structure causing one of the most serious dam emergencies in California history.

OK, I'll be that guy; the last overflow ripped away the last spillway like it was made of tissue paper; what's different about this one?

Roger Waters - "Pigs (Three Different Ones)"

Still mad I missed them in Oakland in 87-88....and in Hawaii in 87. I was in boarding school in Hawaii, so missed the 87 and 88 Oakland shows, and couldn't leave school for the 87 Hawaii show.

Good stuff, good stuff. I hope I can catch them the next time through California....

Apparently Stearns Warf is what I thought was Monterey Bay. At least Monterey was in there somewhere so I don't need to change the tags. ;-)
1:33 the topography and stone looks a lot like McCloud Falls, (far north, near Shasta) but I'm not certain
1:41 from the wineries and small hills, it looks like Napa, but I'm guessing on that one

Here's Why You Need Winter Tires As Shown By A Tricycle

Payback says...

Nah, I'm in Victoria. We get, on average, a month more sun than Seattle. Hasn't been what even Sacramento would call a snow fall in a couple years. Average winter Temps are in the low to high 30s at worst nowadays.

Used to get a lot colder when I was a kid and going to school was the obligatory uphill both ways.

newtboy said:

I thought most people living in your climate had a 'snow car' for winter....that being a cheap junker car they don't care about, done because the salt will destroy anything you drive in winter, and you won't care if you crash the junker at 5mph on ice. The story I saw about that said the snow tires are usually about 1/2 the total cost of the 'winter car'.
Is that wrong?

Cellphone Video Show Officers Shoot and Kill Suspect

artician says...

@ChaosEngine I understand wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt. It does sound unfair, but my outlook is colored by the multiple police officers I know personally who think, talk and act that way.
It's disgusting, but time and again I've seen exactly how the institution works inside, and I know too many guys who became cops because they "get to beat the shit out of people".
The people I'm speaking of are truly sociopathic masochists and assholes. It has always been primarily in urban areas (Sacramento, Oakland, LA), and the problem runs straight through the institution end-to-end.
I have police in my family, some of them are good people. I know that a lot of police are good people, so I'm sorry for being so bluntly blinded by my personal experience-turned-anger. When things like this happen so frequently, it really gets my ire up.

Ultimately you're right, a taser would have been slightly more appropriate. Talking would have gone a lot further in the realm of humanity though.
