What's your first memory of rock & roll? (Rocknroll Talk Post)
Dirty Laundry by Don Henley. I was brought up totally sans rock music, and this was the first one I taped off the radio and got really hooked on, listening to it repeatedly on the sly.
52yr Old Guy Can Sing Across 6 Octaves
>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:
Great, now all he needs is better pitch, tone quality, technique and some basic musicality.
Also, he only sings 2 1/3 octaves in the video.
Yeah, seriously, just because you can hit a ton of notes doesn't mean you're a good singer. I'm still waiting for the next Freddie Mercury to hit the rock music scene.
Zero Punctuation - MadWorld
I played a couple of levels and thought it was fun. The visual style is a big plus and the jazzy hip hip soundtrack is a nice change of pace from the usual generic action/rock music. I'll probably pick it up when it goes on sale.
Also, I love my wii and play with it often.
Stockhausen: Gesang der Jünglinge (Early Electronic Music)
A huge influence to many ; but in rock music he is fairly popular for influencing the krautrock movement of Germany in the early 70's such as Can, Amon Duul II and possibly most important of all, Faust.
Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums
There are some good things about this video, but I personally think this song and video, on the whole, marks a low point for Maynard. Both in terms of the audio and the images, its always just struck me as very ham-fisted. Too easy, in my mind, especially for an artist who has done so much to re-define rock music. Tool will always be one of my favorite bands, and APC isn't bad either (though Mer de Noms is I think really the only great one of the three), but Emotive is (again, in MY mind) sort of a blight on MJK's musical career.
Nirvana--Smells Like Teen Spirit
>> ^eric3579:
The band that single handily killed the big hair bands. Thank god.
Thank God? Unfortunately, it also killed my way of making a living. You may be thanking God, but it left me homeless, and without a job. Not to mention the thousands of other folks who worked in the rock cubs that lost their jobs when a ton of the clubs that hired 70's, 80's, & early 90's style cover bands closed.
But then again, look how long "grunge" stuck around, and look where rock music is heading today. Right back to the hair band rock and roll style it was before Kurt the rest of them showed up. Don't get me wrong, I like this song and other Nirvana stuff. Hell, we played this song two times a night. And I loved singing it. (Used to do the Weird Al version for fun sometimes.) But, I guess it goes to show you that you really can't kill rock and roll.
Christian Rock Guitar Hero Clone: Guitar Praise
Rock music should be about fucking things and doing drugs and shitting on your grandmother. All these peace and love and praising nonsense makes me sick.

Okay, a lesson about the objectification of women.
Done right: This is clearly a woman with tremendous passion for music, creatively blending a very unorthodox classical instrument with a powerful piece of classic rock music. You can see her perfect posture, the graceful movement of her hands across the instrument. You can see that faraway, wistful look on her beautiful face as she revels in the enjoyment of the piece...what man could resist her?
Done wrong: Dude, she's hot. I'd love to climb her Stairway to Heaven.
And if both apply? Though, she looks young enough for me to think it to be a felony.
Foo Fighters - 'The Pretender'
Watching this vid makes me think, "gee, rock music video director, now there's a fun career choice." The absolutely random-seeming pans and zooms - oh it's just another random empty warehouse video. With a big red screen. And what's this? A riot cop? Is he bringing friends? Oh dear yes. Followed by more panning and such. Where's ths going? IT DOESN'T MATTER! Because the Foo rock.
Oh no, run Dave, run!
Ah, he has an ace up his sleeve. The magic red wall was more than just a big piece of abstract art. It was... a giant resvoir of tomato soup? Cow blood? Whatever - awesome.

They Want That Purple Drank - Southern US Drink (Blog Entry by Farhad2000)
Oh god this is awful. This is TERRIBLE! THIS IS NON-ACCEPTABLE TO MY BRAIN!
... what the drugs? No, who cares about that, it's that I didn't know about this drug craze before! I'm like one of these old people who now learns about what these damn kids with their rock music are up to through other sources, like the news! UGH!

Mike Gravel Celebrates His Birthday!
Fjnbk, your statement that his entire presidential campaign has become and excuse to show how much he loves the Beatles is very incorrect. Yes he does love the Beatles, they rocked that's undisputable.. but his campaign if analyzed shows us a lot more than someone's love for some popular rock music.
He gave us an insider's perspective that was more unique than any of the other candidates. He served for over 44 years in our government and has made some intense amazing contributions. I think people are too quick to trivialize him because he's a bit eccentric and profound.
