Making a figure walk though town

cloudballoon says...

More like a short hop from a bus stop to the station's entrance...but OK.

If I'm the artist, I wonder how many cutouts I have to make to be as efficient as possible, 6-10 frames? Seems like a lot of boards to waste (even if they're recycled).

What Happens When You Die?

Bullshit, you liar. You constantly declare the country is doomed because Biden is incompetent and have since before the 2020 election….yet since he was sworn in every metric of national success has improved….but you don’t let a little thing like facts color your opinion.

Or do you mean the shortages nonsense, because you absolutely posted propaganda about fake shortages in summer 21, I remember fact checking you and finding out they were recycling images of empty shelves from 2020 and from other countries on righty media, just like you posted ridiculous nonsense in 2020 claiming BLM had burned multiple entire cities to the ground, using photos from previous years, some wildfire footage, etc to “prove” your point (proving you don’t have one in reality, only in your fantasy world of make believe).

What party? I vote Democrat by default, not choice. Before Trump I never once voted on party lines. He made it a choice of America or Trump. You choose Trump over country, honesty, reality, or sanity every single time. Sycophant!?! Lol. Every stupid accusation a stupid admission. I don’t think there’s one person here besides you and your sock puppet accounts that doesn’t consider you a complete sycophant of and zealous cultist to your Orange messiah who you believe is perfection personified and has never done anything wrong in his lifetime.
I constantly debunk your sycophantic extremist lies, you call that being a lefty sycophant. I don’t think you know what the word means, just like most English words.

What a fool believes, he sees, and you believe some unbelievable nonsense like “indictment will make Trump more powerful and popular than ever. Nov 2020 is a great time to go “all in” on Tesla. Covid is just a mild cold and will disappear by April 2020. Horse dewormer is good medicine for humans, targeted vaccines are bad. Jan 6 was a false flag by BLM and ANTIFA not a failed coup by Trump. 2018, and 2020 will be huge red tsunamis.” Etc. There’s no end to your foolishness, and never once an admission you were wrong despite being wrong over 98% of the time, you just change the subject and refuse to look back at your lies (Ashley Babbitt, Pelosi, etc).

If fools like me were a dime a dozen, this world would be a MUCH better more sane place. Sadly, it’s fools like you that are easy to find and dupe with pleasing (mostly hateful) ridiculous lies. Fools like me rank and score in the 99th percentile, friendo. You don’t even know what that means.

Trump Arrest Deepfakes Are Going Viral

bobknight33 says...

The charges are softer than a old mans dick.

Even CNN is WTF on these charges.
DOJ and Election committee and the NY state DA all looked into this and said NOPE , nothing here. Yet NYC DA ran on getting Trump and this is the best he came up with. Recycled nothing burgers.

Yet another nothing burger.

Lets see 60$ million spent to "get Trump" since he came down the escalator and still ZERO.

60$ million and NOTHING to show . This alone speaks volumes that there is no there there.

So many hoping, dreaming that something, anything can be found. If 60$ Million has found nothing perhaps - you and your kind need to rethink this matter.

How A Brick & Rock Battery Is Changing Energy Storage

newtboy says...

Ok. I like the concept….thermal mass as short term heat storage/release is a well established science.

Sadly calling bullshit when they claim converting electricity to heat is 100% efficient. Nothing is 100% efficient.
They also claim 98% efficiency “pulling the heat back out”…unbelievably high.
Noticeably missing were heat loss rates, both for capture and storage over time…both expected to be extremely high at temperatures of 1500C.

The second system boasting 80% efficiency (but why burning wood?) is more realistic, but the only 3% heat loss per day at 500C temperatures claim is not. No insulation I’ve ever heard of is that efficient.

Recycling industrial manufacturing heat seems smart, but I think they need to be honest up front about the real world expectations and uses. If it could cut the energy needed to bake limestone or melt steel in half, that’s great…please don’t imply it could cut it by anything approaching 97%. That makes me not trust it at all.

California is Running Out of Water

cloudballoon says...

Countries like Israel, due to its geolocation/geopolitical climate, it's a desalination powerhouse. California can do the same. But a balanced approach (environmental harm vs. human necessity vs. commercial viability) is hard to achieve:

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/california-regulator-rejects-plan-desalination-plant-2022-05-13/

Hope that California can gets its act together quick enough w/ more water recycling plants:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/weather/topstories/worlds-largest-water-recycling-plant-located-in-orange-county-getting-major-expansion/ar-AAYLkXL

Some real & fair regulation & enforcement, with violators getting punished helps (HA!).

Meeting invaders with some friendly advice.

So the latest rumour is that by the village of Ljubimovka a group of local gypsies stole a Russian tank.

Now my personal reason to want to believe this story. Back when I was doing my then compulsory army service our country was still housing thousands of Russian troops which had come 20 years earlier in 1968 to keep the peace or something (temporarily). I was stationed at a maintenance and storage unit (managed the kitchen). Our unit oversaw the infrastructure of part of the local training grounds where Russian troops regularly trained. One of the main activities, besides facilitating the sale of military diesel fuel was to remove stranded vehicles the Russians simply left behind broken or overturned in ditches. Breaking them up and selling for recycling was pretty lucrative - our labor was free, trucks and cranes were military equipment (also free), tanks contain a surprising amount of copper and aluminum, steel armor is heavy. I dont think Russians count either their troops or their tanks.

Science of keeping migrating birds off a toxic water pit

spawnflagger says...

Yeah, if each ball is ~$0.33 and that reservoir needed 96 million, would have cost them $32M. (they say they last about 10 years and can recover some of cost via recycling, but also it saved them a lot of money on chlorine, because less of it was needed to keep algae down).
So, even if they need fewer balls and they last 20 years at the copper mine, I highly doubt it costs them $1M a year in staff+drones+bullets.

But I bet there's other materials that are cheaper that aren't food-safe like they need for drinking water reservoirs... another re-use for floating-ocean-trash? In that case they could actually charge by the ton like other waste-management companies.

Boston Cop Brags About Driving Through Crowd

moonsammy says...

Here's the thing: if average citizens didn't have guns, I'd be right pissed if the cops carried them.

I can't speak for the whole of whatever the fuck you think "liberals" encompasses, but here's my take on guns & cops: the constitution allows for guns within well-regulated militias. It was just worded really, really poorly. I mean, read 2A - it's practically authentic frontier gibberish. But the words "well-regulated militia" are definitely in there. And it makes sense - they were trying to secure a bold new type of governance. They needed to be able to defend that, and there was no immediate plan for a standing army. So local, reasonably well-supplied militias, which weren't a bunch of bumblefucks shooting at whatever whenever, were a pretty real need. Where we're at *now* with guns is so fucking far from what the founders could've possibly conceived, that to think they'd approve of it is absurd. I mean, maybe a few of them (they were quite the diverse bunch of white male landowners, in all sincerity), but those with solid military experience likely would've been horrified.

Having said that, it's fantasy-land nonsense to think the prospect of completely eliminating recreational guns in the US in the near term is viable. Hunting armaments will (and perhaps should) remain common for a long while, so be it. I see handguns and non-hunting long arms (or those that are excessive for it) as of significant negative value to society, they can all fuck right off into a metal recycling center or the armory of a well-regulated militia. Perhaps keep some at firing ranges for recreational target practice, with competent professional supervision, and with reasonable regulations in place.

Cops should have firearms in their armory, up until such time as we're living in a Star Trek-like utopia of blissful peace. Humans are largely cool, but some of us are dangerous fucksticks. Have cops pull guns for calls that seem like they'll be needed, and rely on less-lethal options as much as possible. Oh, and stop using the less-lethal options as fucking compliance-obtaining shortcuts. Don't fucking tase or use chemical spray when it isn't needed, they're not for the cops' convenience but to avoid more severe harms from occurring. Officer Friendly should be the order of the day, and any substantial deviation from that should be met with termination and arrest, with consequences no less severe than a non-police citizen would see. No more bad apples, no spoiled bunch.

Hey, thanks for the rant opportunity! Us liberals need to practice our high horsing from time to time. And just like God, we all love you. You specifically, you goddamn sexy hater.

Do we Need Nuclear Energy to Stop Climate Change?

newtboy says...

Depends on your definition of "need", and your definition of "stopping" climate change.

Because I'm convinced enough natural feedback loops are in effect that there's no chance at all of stopping further climate change, and only a slight chance of slowing the rate of change and only if humanity fundamentally changes first, I find the question flawed.

I find it odd that tidal energy (different from hydro) is never considered in these debates. It's simple, relatively cheap, easy to maintain, and best of all predictable and consistent. All you need is a shoreline with a relatively large tide swing, a small inlet, and a tidal flat.

At best, nuclear is a stop gap measure that trades one planetary poison for another.....largely because we aren't responsible with it....building on shores in earthquake zones for convenience, banning fuel recycling, having no long term waste plan and handling waste insanely (Japan, I'm looking at you and your plans to dump Fukushima irradiated water into the ocean)....It's far from "green" the way we do it.

The effort to analyze the growing influence of the media maximizes the possibilities because of all functional resources involved. The certification methodologies that help us deal with the commitment between the teams, entails a process of reform and modernization information flow. Regardless of, perception of the difficulties can lead us to consider restructuring return expected long term. I would like to emphasize that the clear definition of objectives adds value to the establishment the desired indexes.

Above all, it is essential to point out that the growing influence of the media plays an essential role in shaping the desired indexes. We realized increasingly that an increased dialogue between the different productive sectors provides a better overview technique in the recycling investment.

We realized increasingly that the fair trial of eventualities provides a better overview return expected long term.

Above all, it is essential to point out that the challenging global scenario, ensures the contribution of an important group in determining postures of the governing bodies with regard to its responsibilities. We realized increasingly that an increased dialogue between the different productive sectors provides a better overview the preferred directions towards progress.

However, we must not forget that the consensus on the need for qualification promotes leverage postures of the governing bodies with regard to its responsibilities. All these questions, properly considered, raises doubts about whether an increased dialogue between the different productive sectors hinders the appreciation of the importance of all functional resources involved. The accumulated experience shows that the fair trial of eventualities encourages standardization normative rules of conduct. We can already glimpse the way the growing influence of the media adds value to the establishment the financial and administrative requirements.

How China Broke the World's Recycling

cloudballoon says...

China's MAGA move: Make America Garbage Again!

China's polluted enough being the "factory of the world" already. It's one good thing that Chinese government is doing for their people/country and leading many other countries to follow suit.

China didn't "break" recycling. China just flat out pull the magic curtain away to reveal the illusion/lie.
