The thumbnail and the title are totally misleading. I thought this video would be about blue holes like the one in Belize. Instead it's about plate tectonics and the Marianas Trench.

yea I was a bit confused when they started talking about the Marianas trench. Good vid though, very informative. The part where they showed how we know about the earths polarity flipping every few hundred thousand years was really amazing.

Next we make a boat hull so hydrophobic that the water just gets the fuck out of the way, drop one over the Mariana Trench if you want to watch a boat fall 6.8 miles.

I read somewhere that the technological aspects of a dive like Cameron performed are as complex as a moon landing. I guess the thinking was that if something went wrong seven miles below then you are just as screwed as if you were in the Frau Mora Highlands. If the ultimate goal is to setup a colony on Mars or our own Moon, then we should practice in our own backyard first.


Not to mention his submersible has to hold back 1100 atmospheres of force, and out in orbit, the space station only has to hold in 1 atmosphere of force.
